normally im all over console versions, but playing the pc beta; holy shit it's like they didnt even try to optimize the 360. The aiming is sooooo sloppy, the ideas are really solid and the gameplay is pretty sweet, but please please get the PC version.

I wasn't expecting that much from this game. But when i played the demo... it even fell below those expectations. Like Wayne said its got sloppy controls. The ideas are cool but in the end they don't come together well. Not for me at least.

I've been working on my backlog that I've accumulated over the last 3 years. I haven't bought a retail game in months. Except for star ocean 4. I tried not putting it down before I got 100%. It's impossible to not get sick of it. I've been playing nothing but RPGs for months, so I picked the orange box back up, god I missed ravenholm. So unless section 8 is a blockbuster, it can wait.

ADD moment: it's amazing how halflife2 still holds up after all these years. If I'm not mistaken, Black Mesa should almost be ready. Can't wait for that. Never played halflife 1 before.

Reactions are mixed, but personally, I liked it. The mouse-look is properly done, making it feel like a PC game, and the performance is solid. The 'victory point' system adds an interesting dynamic to the game, keeping battles spread throughout the map instead of concentrated in a single area. The customizable classes are another aspect that makes the game dynamic, letting you switch your weapons and reassign attribute points in response to the situation. Oh, and drop-in aspect of the game is great. You can drop in at any location which isn't covered by an AA turret (which are fairly easy to take out) and yes, you can kill somebody by dropping on them.

I played the PC beta, a real fun game but it takes a whole clips to kill someone, which sucks. (Even with the gun perks)

This game is not really an FPS, IMO, but more like a slightly faster paced Mechwarrior game. The combat is very dull, and the game seems to be more about teamwork, strategy, and tactics than your typical FPS. It has a Tribes meets Mechwarrior feel, to me. The Tribes elements comes from how you can plop down things on the ground, you can equip radar jammers, and you can run around blowing up enemy stuff.

I played the 360 demo first and thought it had awful controls. I then tried the beta for PC and thought the game was 10x better. So if you really want to try this, don't bother with the console versions, you'll be dissapointed. PC is the way to go.

I don't think this game will be well received by the public. It will likely have a small, hardcore following though.

I don't know what your experience with MechWarrior is like, but I really wish you hadn't used it in that context.

@OP quote:' "mouse vs. keyboard" flame wars. '

Pretty sure you probably meant mouse & keyboard vs gamepad flame wars...

@Alton Brown : It is a really solid shooter, it has got many options and I tried it both with
an Xbox 360 controller and keyboard and mouse combination. The mapping of the Xbox 360 controller is very similar to that of Call of Duty Modern Warfare / WAW so I got really used to that fast. The keyboard and mouse combination felt a little weird, I had to keep on tweaking my dpi settings and bindings to find the best suitable one and still couldn't.
Also the last couple times I played the Beta started crashing on me for no apparent reason (couldn't send the reports either dunno why) so I just went back to Quake Live =9

Oh let me add to my above comment that both tests were done on the PC Beta (Xbox 360 USB controller and Microsoft Sidewinder X5 gaming mouse, generic keyboard), so I wouldn't know about the Xbox 360 one.

The more and more this game inches towards being like Halo. The stats page preview image reeks of it.

I liked the game, however. Tried the 360 and it quite impressed me. Enough to make rent it out.

the game is completely different from Halo. COMPLETELY. There's only like, 5 primary weapons, at least in the beta, you can have vehicles air lifted in, you choose your equipment, everything from sensor blockers to grenades or knives, then customize passive options like shield penetration, speed, aim lock charging or sensor evasion, and the base gameplay is much different, much spacier environments, even compared to big ones like valhalla or sandtrap, and a lot of other big differences like shifting objectives mid game, aim locking. Vastly different

I know. I have played the game. I am talking of the exterior outlook the game has to those who have never played the game. Didn't we all slammed it for being too similar to Halo before playing the demo/beta?

The game is extremely different with a plethora of options to customize your gear. I hope the MP picks up on this one.

As a few others have noted, it should be at Gamestop, they even featured it in this weeks flyer:

http://www.gamestop.com/gs/weeklyad/current/082809/olfsi_082809-2.aspx

Look at the top left of the "Now Available" box.

To clarify the release situation: Gamestop released it today, as they were told to, conflicting with the date. If you pre-ordered it, you get all your pre-order bonuses. Timegate has servers up and running, so consider it released.

As far as my thoughts, I thought the single player was the single most disappointing FPS single player I've played. The final level made me want to shoot myself. The multiplayer is genius. Innovative, fun, and definitely good. Reminiscent of Halo in some ways, but distances itself from the pack with unique ideas. Overall, I'd recommend renting it and trying out the multiplayer. If it clicks with you, buy it. The multiplayer is the single best part of the game.

I played the Demo on the 360 this weekend.

The game looks really nice and I found the spawn system to be pretty cool. You can pick where you drop. Im not sure what the point of having the break is though, other than to not crush your skull in. Does it make a difference if you stop later rather than sooner?

Other than that, I found it pretty 'meh' across the board. It felt like I was walking everywhere, running is so slow. There's a lot going on, but I never got the sense that I knew what or where. Very confusing at first. Aiming sensitivity needs work. I'd like to be able to tweak my vertical apart from my horizontal. I could never really find the 'right' setting. Or at least something I found manageable.

I didnt get much feeling that there was much difference in the classes, other than what weapons you were loaded with by default. Granted, I only played the Guardian and I think Assault. Whatever the first choice is.

I only played about 45 minutes of the Demo, but I have to say it wasnt an interesting 45 minutes. Pretty much came away thinking that it was an Unreal Tournament Halo.
