WiIWare aficionados, brace your hind quarters. UK gaming mag Edge has revealed (via N-Europe) that a sequel to Frontier's LostWinds is in the works, titled LostWinds: Winter of the Melodias. While most of the core gameplay elements in the sequel remain unchanged, Toku returns with one new ability: he can now change the seasons, turning Summer to Winter and vice versa.
There's no word on when the game will hit WiiWare right now, but if you live in the UK, you may want to check out the latest issue of Edge. The preview on LostWinds: Winter of the Melodias is apparently pretty extensive and, if you're wondering what all of the fuss is about, you still have time to check out the first game (which some of us think is quite excellent).

I really enjoyed the first LostWinds for the art, music, atmosphere and all that, but it was way too short for the price, especially since there was no replay value outside of it being one of those games that you'd probably go back to every couple years. I'm sure I'll still check it out, but it definitely needs to have a bit more playtime to it than the first.

In the article they say that's one of the complaints that people had that they are rectifying. The artwork looks even nicer in this one. Where the original took a lot of it's look from Japanese inspiration, this one uses ideas from Inca and Inuit origins (again, according to the article). Looking past the season changing powers (which you are able to use thanks to another spirit), there are a few new wind powers in there like the ability to create a small cyclone, and the powers can affect each other e.g you can use the cyclone to pick up the water into a cloud, then change the weather so that the clou snows rather than rains. You can then make the snow into a snowball to weigh down a pressure switch.

It was 3.5 hour game for 10 bucks how is that too little gameplay for the price? Most full price retail games single player modes are only 6 hours or so. Halo, Killzone, etc all around 6 hours. Granted there is online but 10 bucks for a game as awesome as Lost Winds was is definitely worth it.

Don't get me wrong. I loved Lost Winds and I'll be getting this but it was not a 3.5 hour game. It was a 2 hour game. Also bear in mind that here in England it cost £7. For £10 I can get many full length console games in the second hand market. £5 would get me a fair variety too.

LostWinds felt as though the game was ending right where it was getting awesome, so I can't wait for the sequel.

Finally, something to look forward to on the wii.
This game was amazing. I must agree with an earlier comment though, it ended right when it was picking up steam. Still, it is a gem that still is the best thing the wiiware has. This CANNOT come out soon enough, and the sequel to it, better not take as long!

Damn I have to play the first one, it's pretty much the only wiiware game I'll be getting when I get a wii.

Heh, I get voted down even when I say something nice. Go figure.

Except I didn't say that, I just said it'll be the only game that I will get.

Personally, don't own a Wii anymore.
But, subjectively speaking, downvoting people who don't deserve it is bullshit.
That is all.

I disagree with a lot of the things you say on here, but I can not see why this is being voted down. Also, you may wanna' check out NyxQuest too if you get a wii.

The game is mediocre, kid. Don't believe the hype. A rather dull and sorry excuse for a platformer if ever I saw one.

I got the first one after hearing so many people say it was really good. I couldn't find that, I thought the controls were, not responsive enough? Maybe I should give it another shot, this looks interesting - but I think I'm going for that fuzzy whatever wiiware game instead.
who knows? i don't.

Look like Edge beat Nintendo Power to the punch about their "Must see" WiiWare reveal.
Now Nintendo Power has no excuse for their lack of No More Heroes 2

Yeah, I got about 3.5 hours out of nyx, then bumped up to around 4 for knocking out the relics/arcadia. Not bad value for 10 bucks in my book, I dont know if my time was fast/slow or average tho'.

I thought this said Winter of the Melodicas, not Melodias. As a melodica player I was ready to enter full freakout mode.
This is still good news, however.

Been so long I forgot about the title. Hmm, good reason to go back and replay it at least.
