For a quick breakdown of what EyePet is all about, check out the recent PlayStation.Blog video posted after the break. Here's a quick summary: It's like Seaman, only way less creepy, and with a Monkey-esque thing instead of a Man-Fish, and also the Monkey-thing will never learn to speak and question you about your sex life. We hope.

Finally, we can attach a date to the exact moment kids across the world can stop begging for real-life, responsibility-mandating pets, and can instead fall in love with their virtual, responsibility-free counterparts. That is to say, we know the release date for Sony's EyePet -- it's set to drop November 17 in the States. If you've got a PlayStation Eye already, you can pick up the core game for $39.99 -- though an Eye-equipped bundle is also coming for $59.99.

Is it voiced by Spock? No?
Will it ponder why I left it along so long? No?
Does it look like the result of a man somehow impossibly breeding with a fish? No?
...Wtf is the point of this again? We already have Nintendogs, get this crap outta here.

Completely agree with you
I still can't understand why they would cancel Eight Days over this.
Disappointing indeed.

Those are the creepiest cute things I've ever seen. It's like something out of a sci-fi movie where white coat scientists splice the DNA of a human and a monkey together...
Still, this look pretty lame.

I've got a golden retriever puppy, so I won't be needing this. The video was pretty impressive, though. Slightly Natal-ish the way your movements interact with objects or beings on-screen in real-time without any hand-held peripherals, and it's coming out mid-November.

This recently went from like a "looks kinda fun" type of thing to a "want right now" type of thing for me. Day 1 purchase.
...Plus it might get my girlfriend to play games with me :/

If Sony advertise this well, you will expect a lot of kids wanting a PS3 for Christmas.

Is there a joke I'm not in on? Is everyone here really getting hyped over some disturbing looking virtual pet game?

This is great for kids not adults to me it looks like the return of Oh god those toys from Japan what were they again?....FURBY!....We don't need this anymore...Sony should concentrate on the updates for the PS3 there as usual there still is no IN GAME MUSIC, And still no CROSS IN GAME CHAT..To me this is Inexcusable!...

I think Sony is looking more at sales here. Like someone said below, if advertised well, a lot of kids will want a PS3 for Christmas which will be even better with the price drop.

Yup, specially for a game that everyone will get bored with after 30 minutes to an hour.

When was the last time a non- downloadable game was released under $20? This is perfectly priced for a disc based game. This pricing is the same that Eye of Judgment had back in the day with and without camera.
And tmacairjordan87, maybe you can tell us how were you able to play the full game months ahead of release to know that.

"this is targeted at little kids. not older people"
What little kid knows how to use a PS3? Are you talking about Cody?

You can get them in, start them off with some Uncharted or Ratchet, throw in some Resistance or Warhawk while you're at it. Who says just because they're kids they need to play shitty casual shovelware? I was playing Contra 3 and the Final Fantasies when I was pretty young, like 6 or 7.

Personally, this isn't cute. Reminds me of a cross between Trolls and Furbys. Gross.
