First screens for The Ballad of Gay Tony go airborne
Earlier today, Rockstar Games released its first volley of screens for upcoming GTA IV expansion, The Ballad of Gay Tony. From what we can see in the four images -- handed "exclusively to fan sites," according to the Rockstar Games website -- it appears as though air-based warfare will be the focus this time around.
Eagle-eyed fans will also notice that the protagonist is wearing the same letterman jacket found in the teaser image Rockstar released last week for the game's second DLC, still scheduled to arrive this Winter, further confirming his main characteriness. All will be revealed this Tuesday we hope, with the arrival of the first trailer (and hopefully some new media alongside that). For the time being, peep all four images right here.

I hate to go off-topic here, but Joystiq.... are you EVER going to do something about all the spambots that have been popping up lately? Seriously, I report 3 comments a post for spam alone on average now. I think you need to start bringing the ban-hammer down faster. (EDIT: We are doing so now. You can stop reporting this comment!)
Ben Gilbert @ Aug 29th 2009 7:14PM
Thank you for reporting people, MowDownJoe. I've just gone through the most reported 300 comments across all the Joystiq websites (Joystiq, Xbox, PS, and Nintendo) and deleted all that required it. I'm sorry that we haven't been on top of it and I personally take responsibility. I'll be back on top of it as of now. Thank you for the reminder!
(And for reading!!)

YAY, ACCEPTANCE!
OH, and Slim? If you think my post is spam, wouldn't that also make your post spam?

Looks like they're making up for taking the Annihilators out of multiplayer.
Shadowbender (Sweatshop Supporter In Hiding) @ Aug 29th 2009 5:40PM
FAIL.
Sorry, Crackdown is just ten times better than this crap.
Damian @ Aug 29th 2009 5:46PM
Crackdown is not exactly the same type of game.
David [Steam: ZayCube] @ Aug 29th 2009 5:56PM
Metacritis says otherwise.
AvA (ice~) @ Aug 29th 2009 6:51PM
metacritis sounds like a painful STD, or some sort of vaginal infection...
Damian @ Aug 29th 2009 8:54PM
Metacritis is not that bad, it clears up in a week.
David [Steam: ZayCube] @ Aug 31st 2009 11:41AM
Why did I get downvoted? Because of a silly typo? Incase you dont know, I meant Metacritics. Metacritics says GTA 4 is better than Crackdown.
Sherlock Homey @ Aug 29th 2009 5:51PM
Yup, I cannot wait for this installment.

Malcolm Reynolds dlc would be better though.
Longhorn Slim @ Aug 29th 2009 6:31PM

Longhorn Slim @ Aug 29th 2009 9:24PM

Where are all the hookers at?
ryan @ Aug 30th 2009 9:10AM
ya i don't know why u got down voted
I agree with u they focus way too much on graphics and took out all the fun stuff
air planes/parachute/licence ect.
acme @ Aug 30th 2009 11:05AM
no, they took out the CRAZY stuff, like bmx off a mountain and landing on a weiner mobile....this is more realistic, and still hellafun.
Snowblind @ Aug 31st 2009 6:59AM
Good news.

Parachutes are back.
clanboru15 @ Aug 29th 2009 6:42PM
I hope they put some of the ridiclous fun that they took out from GTAIII to GTAIV. That might make me finish the game.
Alex @ Aug 29th 2009 7:36PM
GTA III was the only good GTA IMO.
The main guy didn't shout stupid phrases when he shot someone... That makes the game better on its own.
Llama_egg @ Aug 29th 2009 7:52PM
GTA2 > All
Doesn't need to be 3D to be entertaining. I've spent more hours in that game then all the other combined :O
U U D D L R L R B A SELECT START @ Aug 29th 2009 9:05PM
Agreed...I didn't even bother to rebuy GTA4 when I was transitioning from Xbox (RIP) to PS3...I hated most of the radio stations, the driving never grew on me, and it didn't really capture the over-the-top elements I loved about GTA III thru San Andreas.
yolarrydabomb @ Aug 29th 2009 11:12PM
VC and SA was better
TreyIM @ Aug 29th 2009 8:11PM
All I know is that I hope that this comes to the PS3. I think Rockstar is not too happy that they made signed that contract with MS based on how poorly the first DLC did on the 360. Matter of fact, even with the analyst speculation of the poor sales, the Rockstar rep said they will NEVER release the sales numbers and even had a bit of an attitude when he said it.
C'mon, Rockstar, just break the contract. Lol. I needs this DLC on me PS3, matey...
Ryans2oo9 @ Aug 29th 2009 8:23PM
It was the best sellin DLC on xbox live to date bro...
Psych Out @ Aug 29th 2009 8:25PM
What are you talking about, TLAD sold very well on the Xbox 360.
It even set a record, generating the most revenue in 24-hours, more than any DLC. And it beat sales of Killzone 2 on the PS3.
Psych Out @ Aug 29th 2009 8:25PM
Haha, Ryans2oo9, you beat me. :B
Damian @ Aug 29th 2009 8:53PM
Where are you getting your facts from TreyIM?
TreyIM @ Aug 29th 2009 9:09PM
Damian - There were articles about the speculation by analysts that didn't believe the DLC did well on the PS3. Google it. And there was also the vid of the Rockstar rep, I believe from E3. Google that, too. I don't make ish up. No reason to.
FraGNeM @ Aug 29th 2009 11:51PM
Trey, estimates that I've seen show that the DLC had broken records and sold over 1 million copies, with sales projections that it would reach 2 by "years end".
Joystiq even reported the sales records of TLAD. No Googling required:

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/27/gta-ivs-the-lost-and-damned-found-by-many-many-people/
"There were articles about the speculation by analysts that didn't believe the DLC did well on the PS3". If that's your concern, I agree with you. The DLC didn't appear on PS3, so it probably didn't sell too well on the platform.
chris @ Aug 30th 2009 11:56PM
Psych Out, Reading really isn't your strong point. I mean, did you even read the articles you posted?
From the first link: "Although there are currently no solid numbers to support Pachter's belief that The Lost and Damned DLC will sell two million units this year, we do know a lot of people got on their hogs for biker-based adventure".
From the second:"exact sales figures aren't given, so we don't know how much Microsoft and Rockstar have made off the DLC yet".
Any one the believes that it's was a good move for Rockstar to keep it xbox only, or that they are happy about it is either a fool or a troll. I believe your a mix of both.
TreyIM @ Aug 29th 2009 8:34PM
Whoooaa, my bad if that is true. Initially, that was not the speculation by analysts plus there was an actual vid of the Rockstar rep stating that they will never release the sales numbers.
As for KZ2 sales - What does that have to do with anything? U trying to light a match?
Jcarpio @ Aug 29th 2009 8:43PM
Why would Rockstar complain about getting 50 million dollars?
TreyIM @ Aug 29th 2009 8:52PM
Well, it's not all about dollars, contrary to belief. It's about moving units, as well. Yes, they receive a huge contract but if they are not moving projected units, then it's not successful.
chris @ Aug 29th 2009 8:55PM
Jcarpio- cause selling 2 million copies would have done that, with out screwing over half their fan base. They could have sold 4 times that much by making a disk version for each system. Do the math...
chris @ Aug 29th 2009 8:48PM
Do you have sales number to prove that it sold more that Killzone? Cause i doubt its reached the two million mark. The GTA4 sold over 12 million on both consoles, so yeah I would be pissed if I was rock star, they cut several million copies by keeping it away from the ps3. Just cause it set some stupid xbox live record doesn't mean it was any good from the publisher point of view, they could give a fuck less what it does for xbox live.
chris @ Aug 29th 2009 8:49PM
stupid reply system. Sorry guys, this should have been under TreyIM post.
TreyIM @ Aug 29th 2009 9:07PM
U touched a bit of where I was going without saying - Rockstar coulda used those PS3 sales, as well. Like I posted a moment ago, it's not all about dollars, in the business world. It's about units moved and if the projected amount don't move, it can be considered unsuccessful.
At the end of the day, I just want this on the PS3, tis all, for me. I LOVE GTAIV. That game was a masterpiece, imo, but I do want Rockstar to step it up, gameplay wise, for the next official GTA. I've been suggesting since before GTA IV that giving us the option to play as two separate characters - Protagonist and antagonist - and the missions should have consequences that can either keep your character as either type OR if you cross over enough, you can have a different outcome at the end of that character's storyline. Basically, good guy can become a bad guy and vice versa or you can stay the course.
The only thing I think that could possibly hold that back, unfortunately, is the fact that the 360 uses CDs and not all SKUs come with an HDD. Using some storage space and having a lot more disc space could help facilitate accomplishing this. Funny thing is how Heavy Rain is doing this same thing but Heavy Rain hadn't even been announced and guess what? It's a PS3 exclusive and most likely because of that space issue.
FraGNeM @ Aug 29th 2009 11:57PM
Trey, Xbox 360 uses DVDs.
And Heavy Rain is published by Sony. That's probably a better reason for why it isn't appearing on the 360. Afterall, Square Enix is releasing FFXIII on 360, spanning multiple DVDs, so I don't see how a single DVD's storage capacity prevents a game from being released on the system.
Psych Out @ Aug 30th 2009 12:12AM
It was Rockstars decision to take the money from Microsoft, and a good number of those who own GTA IV bought TLAD as well. I'm pretty sure Rockstar isn't pissed.
Rockstar "could give a fuck less?" Rockstar's the developer of the game, they give many fucks. I don't know why you think otherwise, but Rockstar does care about the sales it has on Xbox Live, and I'm almost positive it was a good day at the office when they read the sales figures.
Oh, and TreyIM, you're a pretty damn good bullshitter.
chris @ Aug 30th 2009 12:18AM
Yeah it was a really good day at the office... Yeah we sold 12 million copies of gta4 on the ps3 and 360, but we only sold 1 million copies of the dlc on xbox live... but hey it's okay guys we set a new record on xbox live! Fucking get real, from an business stand point that number blows ass.
chris @ Aug 30th 2009 12:22AM
Psych Out, your not very good at reading comprehension are you?
Psych Out @ Aug 30th 2009 3:45PM
At this point, that 1 million copies is probably 2 million by now, if not more.
$20 x 2,000,000 = $40,000,000.
($20,000,000 if you're gonna argue "omg no def. not 2 million now lol")
Yeah, Rockstar is PISSED, man! $40,000,000, plus Microsofts $50,000,000, with The Ballad of Gay Tony coming up soon.
Rockstar put TLAD on the XBL Marketplace knowing how DLC sales go. They weren't hoping for (lets say it was an even split) 6 million sales of TLAD.
From a business standpoint, $40,000,000 is just dandy.
chris @ Aug 30th 2009 3:54PM
Okay now let's say that it was in both consoles, and sold 6 mil, at 20 dollas a copy profit. 120 mil, compared to 40. Not a good day at the office. Your dumb. That deal with microsoft was based on it selling so many copies on xbox live, if it's not rached then they wold have to pay that back. Still a good deal? Think not.
