Activision remembers DJ AM's work on DJ Hero

Having worked with Goldstein so closely as of late, we asked Activision for comment. VP of music affairs Tim Riley told us over the weekend:
We are deeply saddened by the loss of DJ AM, who was a tremendous talent, a trusted partner and friend to DJ Hero. Our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family. AM was instrumental in the making of DJ Hero and we hope that his work on the game will be a fitting tribute to his creative spirit and musical talent.Joystiq would like to offer our condolences to DJ AM's family, friends, and anyone else effected by his passing.

The same thing happened when Billy Mays died.
It sucks that people die, stupid flawed process of evolution.
mortegro545 @ Aug 31st 2009 6:07PM
A very sad story. :(
Wiizer ($299) Having BC On Your Launch Console? (Priceless) @ Aug 31st 2009 6:06PM
Not to be cold, but the dude survived a frickin' plane crash... and he wasted his second chance by misusing drugs and overdosed.
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Aug 31st 2009 6:08PM
Sadly, anyone who says this immediately sounds like an a**hole. I know that is not your purpose, but that's just how it is.
With that said, I completely agree with you. Although his close friends say it was a one-time relapse, it is nothing short of sad.
mortegro545 @ Aug 31st 2009 6:09PM
It's called survivors guilt, dude. Look it up before you run your mouth.
Wiizer ($299) Having BC On Your Launch Console? (Priceless) @ Aug 31st 2009 6:11PM
@ mortegro545
He fuckin relapsed, so it's not like it was Survivor's Guilt, you dummy.
relaxeder @ Aug 31st 2009 6:21PM
I felt the same way when I read about it. I probably shouldn't judge without knowing all the details, but I'm sure some of the other folks who died in that plane accident would have been glad to take his second chance for him if he was just going to throw it away on hard drugs in a short year's time. You would think somebody would learn to value their life a little more and stay away from that stuff for good after barely surviving a tragedy like that.
Condolences to his family and friends anyway.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Aug 31st 2009 6:23PM
yea..."Final Destination" was the thing that was said over and over on Twitter....
Saint @ Aug 31st 2009 6:34PM
Survivors guilt or not, hardcore drugs (I keep hearing crack is what got him, but I'm not sure that's true or not) will get you.
When you stick a loaded gun in your mouth and pull the trigger, what do you expect to happen?
mwrench @ Aug 31st 2009 6:51PM
I agree 100%. Buy the ticket, take the ride. It's not like he was unaware of the risks of crack, or of abusing prescription drugs. Just because the media dictates that we should feel sorry for him, doesn't mean we should. No one felt sorry for G.G. Allin or Brad Renfro when they died due to substance abuse. I'm sure both of them deserved more respect than what they got.
MarkHawk @ Aug 31st 2009 6:51PM
I have to agree with @relaxeder on this one. You can't imagine what this guy might have gone through. If you read up on it and his last few days it sounds like he a lot weighing down on him. I don't support the use of any drugs (Had a friend killed in a hit and run in High School because of it) but this was his choice. Take what ever you can from it but for him it's over. I can only imagine how bad it'd have to weigh down on me for this to happen.
Anyway who wants Tacos? (Hate ending on such a depressing note)
mortegro545 @ Aug 31st 2009 8:30PM
true enough, people deal with pain in a lot of ways. Most of them are not all that productive. No one is going to argue anyone that.
Still, a shame.
PR0F3TA (PSN - PROPHETA) @ Aug 31st 2009 8:25PM
@ Wiizer
thank you for having the guts to say that...
death is sad yes, but he didn't die giving puppies a bath. He overdosed on a hard drug.
i like how relapse is used as an excuse, he knew what he was doing, don't say the drugs were too strong to turn away from.
Shagittarius @ Aug 31st 2009 6:06PM
Was he on the cover? Is this the new Madden curse?
Wiizer ($299) Having BC On Your Launch Console? (Priceless) @ Aug 31st 2009 6:10PM
"Sadly, anyone who says this immediately sounds like an a**hole."
LOL, how many people can you say "but the dude survived a frickin' plane crash..." about? LOL
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Aug 31st 2009 6:17PM
I'm agreeing with you. I'm saying that most people would consider that an a**hole comment because the guy just died. I should have worded that better, sorry.
charlie b. @ Aug 31st 2009 6:17PM
survived a plane crash...only to OD on drugs months later.
downvote me all you like, but that's a pretty douchey way to die.
dAnixx @ Aug 31st 2009 6:33PM
Still a person died. R.I.P.
Solace @ Aug 31st 2009 6:13PM
RIP DJ AM
I still don't know why you would fuck that skinny twig called Nicole Richy
*sakes head*
Wiizer ($299) Having BC On Your Launch Console? (Priceless) @ Aug 31st 2009 6:15PM
Wow, a head saking!
Ritchie wasn't all twig when he first started dating her, was she?
I figured it was all the drugs she did after that...
MarkHawk @ Aug 31st 2009 6:53PM
What is this a Teen Magazine article? Who cares about the weight or looks of people in real life on a video game blog...
sony boy @ Aug 31st 2009 6:16PM
i'm not into dj stuff so i don't know who he is??
anyways, RIP
C @ Aug 31st 2009 6:24PM
More like DJ Was. Amiritegais?
Reekoh @ Aug 31st 2009 6:31PM
Sucks to see somebody die, but when I played with him here in Seattle @ Last Supper Club, he was partying way too hard, and I wondered a couple years back when he was here if he was gonna party his body out. All over the flier he was marketed as "Nichol Ritchie's Boyfriend", and never appeared sober the entire time. I'm not surprised by this news at all, though, and wish I had gotten to know him more than the hour that I talked with him in.
BJ is Gooder @ Aug 31st 2009 7:25PM
Nobody cares about you meeting somebody ONCE! Geez...
The Baron @ Aug 31st 2009 6:33PM
This is actually the first I've heard of his death.. damn, I quite liked his and Barker's stuff.
I guess you miss stuff like this when you go Leeds fest for 5 days.
chrisredfield31 @ Aug 31st 2009 10:06PM
why the hell should I celebrate this guy's life? I have no idea (other than being known for Nicole Richie's BF) who the hell he is and hasn't done anything to make himself memorable. Billy Mays was different, even though I didn't want to buy any of the products, I always loved those advertisements cause Billy was damn slick at what he did. That brightened a part of my life, DJ AM didn't whatsoever.
Tim @ Aug 31st 2009 10:18PM
well then perhaps you shouldnt have dropped a comment. theres such a thing as scrolling over to the next post.
SEVENim @ Aug 31st 2009 10:17PM
We can all agree on one thing:
DJ Hero will probably be released in his honor. so expect an "in loving memory" screen mixed in with the developer and publisher logos when firing up the game
Mark @ Sep 1st 2009 8:43AM
F5'ing for news of Travis Barker. Come on... come on..
