I look forward to the release of D3, the classic elements seem to be present, but Blizzard, in classic fashion, is integrating key components that have involved in gaming to create an overall experience which pays homage to the original game play while simultaneously building new and interesting experiences.

Joystiq, end the cruelty... stop the interviews and let them go so they can finish the game already!

So, Witch Doctor, Sorc, Barb, Monk. Do we know how many classes will be in the final cut?

Five. My money is on a Paladin-like character that is solely for buffing/debuffing friendlies/enemies in multiplayer.

Five total, the last one will be a mystery until next year.

Well, that's lame. That means no Amazon, Pally, Necro, Assassin, or Druids. Way to make progress, Blizzard! Can't wait for that Starcraft 3rd person shooter!

Wouldn't putting in the same characters from Diablo II be, you know, not making progress.

Anyways Blizzard said the barbarian is the only character back from D2.

Actually, none of the characters are very unique to the series. The Barb is returning from D2, the Wizard is just another name for Sorcer(er/ess, D1 and D2 respectively), the Monk is from D1X (with shades of D2's Assassin), and the Witch Doctor looks quite a lot like a Necromancer.

Honestly though, between the Diablo and Warcraft worlds, I think Blizzard has done at least one of every single fantasy archetype in existence. There's nothing left that's new!

@Solstice: That's actually quite a depressing sentiment you've got there. Actually--and I know plot-centric purists will probably flame me for this--I was kind of hoping for a playable non-human class this time around. Back when Diablo II was newly released, I was thinking of perhaps a demon or a goatman class or something similar; obviously though it would never work with the storyline, given that Diablo is ~*~*~Lord of Terror~*~*~ and everything, but I still thought it would be cool.

Incidentally, there's one archetype I don't think Blizzard has done yet: the Jester. And I think that scary, scary class would fit right in.

Oh hell yes. Jester would be awesome, I never even thought about it.

For people who can't see how Jester could work as a combat class, refer to Gauntlet Legends.

Sounds like they are still ages from finalizing a lot of things, why are they releasing news of D3 so damn early then, so they can talk endlessly about it and say oh this is not finalized yet lolz, we considered that, but we don't know that yet rofl, which interview about SC2, D3 is not like this ... omg nerd-rage at all this baiting and waiting!

Great interview! I really liked how Kevin and Leo took the heat for the shotty cinematic. Working in the field, I find all too often the higher up guys pass the buck to the artists. Even when they give you two days to do a weeks worth of work. Blizzard has that reputation for quality. You can tell they were a little embarrassed. I'd bet the next one will be pristine!
