God of War Collection coming to PS3 this holiday

It's like this, but more definition-ier.

Backwards compatibility is back ... sort of! SCEA has announced that the PlayStation 2 God of War games will be coming to PlayStation 3 on a single, HD-enhanced Blu-ray disc. Previously hinted at in a consumer survey, the God of War Collection will feature "reworked" versions of both games, running at 60 frames per second and 720p resolution. The port is being handled by Bluepoint Games, the team behind the PSN-exclusive shooter, Blast Factor. Hopefully, the games will be more than simply upscaled, giving original PS3 owners a reason to partake in the double dip. Update: And yes, it will have Trophies.

The Blu-ray collection will be available this "holiday season," and will cost $39.99 -- the same price as buying both of the games on PS2. This HD remix should give fans some time to practice Kratos' moves before God of War III completes the "triology" (oh, press release typos!) in March.

has some one been leaking news to sony that they need to up their game?? because wow they on fire recently, start listening more sony and watch the sales rack up. i request one thing, and one thing only... the PSP Go.... im sorry the price is absolutely ridicilous in the UK, i mean seriusly £225? thats like £80 more than the 3000 (which i bought last christmas) il be willing to by the Go, but not at that price, sorry thats just too expensive for my blood and i think it will be for alot of other kids (the elite (xbox) is £199.99 now) the psp (a handheld) is more expensive than a HD enabled home console which rivals the ps3? ur mad sony

I think they should consider making a special edition of GOW3 that includes the 2 originals for perhaps $80? That would be amazing.

Man you are missing out on two of the best endings in any game to date. I loved the ending in GOW2. It took me forever to beat the second. I got stuck and didnt want to change the hard level to normal. If it has trophies i may get it. I own the first one after buying it used for like 10 bucks but never bought the second.I just played my friends copy.

This is pretty cool news and a great way to build up hype and anticipation for God Of War 3. But, I don't think I'm going to rebuy the games just to play through them again and get trophies. I would probably buy the new Eye Pet game before the re-release of GoW 1 & 2. Not that the GoW compilation isn't a much better value proposition but because I don't really have a desire to play the games again. Maybe if reviews show the enhanced visual fidelity actually improved the experience dramatically would I consider purchasing the games again.

I wish SEGA were taking notes and did localized Yakuza 3 for North America and added in updated versions of Yakuza 1 & 2 with trophy support on a seperate BD within the packaged compilation.

Maybe this is what Kojima and Konami have in mind for their re-release of Metal Gear Solid 4. I would play through that game again for trophies only because I love the series so much.

Coming out this 'holiday'? Which holiday? Labor Day? Halloween? Thanksgiving?

I was waiting for GOW3 to get my PS3 but with Uncharted, LBP, and this now, i think it might be an early xmas and they got a deal for the slim PS3 online now. OMG, why can i not be made of money, why.

Why do people come in asking if they will have trophies? All games in '09 are mandatory to have trophies.

A thousand times this. I already have the PS2 versions but I'm leaving the PS2 behind for my roommates when I move out and I don't have a BC model. MGS2 & 3 are really the only PS2 games I'm gonna want to play in the future. Make it happen, Sony!

you forgot to mention that there are going to be trophies

ALL PS3 games from early 2009 and beyond have trophies. I don't think we need to keep on repeating that EVERY PS3 game will have trophies. Just in case, though, I wanted to let you know that this game, and EVERY OTHER PS3 game going forward, will have trophies.

@andrew yoon i understand what you are saying. but this is a bit different. its not like its a new game, this is a reworked game from a previous Gen. so for it to get trophies is pretty interesting. especially when it seems like they are going that extra mile. they could have just directly ported it to that disc and been done with it.

Made my week! Now I can stop sulking about my PS3 not having BC.

I second that a God of War 3 demo should be included.

You didnt have to be such a pole smoking bogan about it. I honestly wouldn't have been surprised if it didnt have Trophies because it's a port. Xbox Originals didnt have achievments. So it's a valid statemenet and question to ask/say that this will have trophies.

How you all feel if you unlocked the demo to GOW 3 after you beat the other 2 games? BTW 2 games 2 plats yes please!!!

While you're obviously right, Andrew, this is one of the few cases where there could be confusion, being PS2 games. It seemed like an obvious thing, but, I can understand the question.

That was weird.. There were no replies after Andrew when I went to reply... Well, whatever and then it shows I'm like an hour late. Well, whatever!

I'm curious if they would be able to have 2 games and 2 platinum trophies on one disk, or, if this is getting the treatment most PSN games get.

The biggest complaint everyone had with xbox originals (well, besides price) was that they didn't have achievements.

I am not bitching about it. In fact I want SONY to release ICO or Shadow of the Collossus next!

now we just need an HD version of GTA:SanAndreas with trophies!

every agree with me you know you want it. (being able to actually fly planes!! which was a big letdown in GTA IV imo)
and besides it was a great game and should be re-relased.

i was thinkin sony should actually re-release 'IQ: intelligence cube'(for those that dont know IQ is a game that was released on the ps1 and its a game thats very rare kinda like the Marvel Vs Capcom2 on PS2 and Xbox) on the PSN i would buy it. its a great game

sorry for being off topic in my last post, and this one.

I think we all knew deep down that B/C wasn't removed simply because they couldn't get a software emulator up and running, or because they didn't want the added heat/cost of using PS2 chips on the PS3 motherboard. The cost argument was void to begin with since they still manufacture PS2's, and the heat argument is also fairly silly considering the PS2 chips wouldn't even need to be on unless you were playing a PS2 game (during which time the PS3 chip could be run at half speed, or less).

I hope this will be the start of a long trend of classic games getting "remastered". Hopefully they will re-texture and do everything else necessary to make the games look great at the higher resolution, instead of just upping the resolution and leaving it at that.

I would have bought this anyway even if it doesn't come with a demo of 3 like the rumor suggested, but adding trophies and making it in HD too? Good lord Sony, you've suddenly made my copies of GoW 1 & 2 disappear, I wonder what happened to them....
