Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars breaking into iPhones this fall

There are no screens or details about this release yet, but in the announcement, Sam Houser calls Chinatown Wars "a perfect match for the iPhone and iPod touch." Almost as perfect as it was for the DS, the system for which it was designed! We're very interested in how GTA will work without buttons. In a morbid kind of way.

I can't wait to play it on my digital watch.

With a real time, in-game clock?! Instant day one purchase.

This makes me all kinds of happy! I'd much rather purchase an iPod Touch to play this and other games then a PSP for some reason. (And no, I don't know why, and no, I don't hate Sony lol!)

Excellent. This will replace the Gangster game (which is GTA:VC basically)

This is actually quite a big deal. I'm assuming the iPhone/iPod Touch version will be more similar to the DS version rather than the PSP's improved graphics.
But seriously, all of those fart apps have an expiration date when this shit drops.

No Touch for PSP,
No Buttons for iPhone...
well... The DS version will always be the better one =P

I'm pretty hyped for the digital watch version.
No touch screen, no buttons. What could go wrong?
NaeemTHM @ Aug 31st 2009 12:38PM
You know after playing "Gangster" for the iPhone I have to say...this is kind of exciting.
I usually hate touch based action games on the iPhone, but Gameloft ripped off the GTA formula just right. They managed to produce something pretty close to the real deal:

Imagine how good an ACTUAL Grand Theft Auto game would be on the device.

maybe that will show up in the psp minis
hatmantc @ Aug 31st 2009 12:47PM
i love my IPhone for the small 5 minute games. i wouldnt buy a full length title. I would buy this game for my PSP though. Atleast then my battery on my phone isnt dead with in an hour of gaming.

If this works out (or even sells better on iPhone than it did on DS), they could soon become co-developed platforms. That would be an interesting turn indeed.
Bones3D @ Aug 31st 2009 2:14PM
This is surprising... great game, but already is upstaged by Gameloft's Grand Theft Auto 3-esque "Gangstar: West Coast Hustle", which is street-level 3D, unlike "Payback" and "Car Jack Streets", which use the old top-down view.
Janichsan @ Aug 31st 2009 2:54PM
But then again is GTA:CW the much more detailed game, with a much larger city and more variety. Just a pity that I already played the DS version to death.
Cloud_ST @ Aug 31st 2009 3:43PM
And the PS2 version is seeming more likely every day.

I just Jizzed in my pants.
fikhl @ Aug 31st 2009 7:08PM
I do love the iPhone/iPod Touch, but seriously as a gamer I think it's getting ridiculous to have all the full-length games on these media-centric devices. I think they're somewhat destroying the name of a franchise by doing so. Resident Evil was shit, hands down.
