Nomura: No Closed Mega Theater at TGS, but playable FFXIII, Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep

Tokyo Game Show attendees will have one fewer giant line to contend with this year: Square Enix will not run its traditional "Closed Mega Theater," during which new trailers are debuted. Producer Tetsuya Nomura told Famitsu (as translated by Andriasang) that the company is putting its efforts into promoting games that are coming out sooner, which means playable demos instead of giant trailers for distant games.

The focus on playable and near-future titles also means that Square Enix won't be showing games like Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Final Fantasy Agito XIII, and The 3rd Birthday -- all of which appeared in trailer form at the last TGS, but still aren't playable. Instead, trailers for a few upcoming games will be shown to attendees who play the demos for Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep (coming this winter!) or Final Fantasy XIII.

Haha, yeah. I'm guessing you heard about Disney buying up Marvel. I thought the same thing when I heard this.

Though, I highly doubt it will happen.

You know what, the less Disney has to do with Kingdom Hearts the better. Kingdom Hearts 2 was half a game (the second half) and half a Disney ad. They need to just give Square-Enix permission to use the characters and stay the f*ck away from then on.

If they want Marvel characters in it suddenly it'll turn out like Spider-Man 3, where they have a great idea for a story and the Disney goes "Hey, this character ranks well in polls, throw him in, too!"

It would be so badass to have Iron Man in there, though... so badass.

So no major reveals then, either/

I figured it would be the right time to show something of Versus XIII (since the Japanese release of regular will be imminent at that point), and then show something of Dragon Quest X, since IX's out by now, and it's been a while since that one was announced to the tune of absolutely nothing to show for it...

Exactly how I feel about Versus. It would have been perfect to at least finally let people see what the hell this game is all about TGS. But sadly we'll have to deal with the same cutscene of the same brooding hero kiling shit.

Just adding, that I remember Square saying Cloud woudn't appear on FF Dissidia, and, well, he appeared.
Isn't Square the kind of company that will likely show a kick azz trailer of FFVersusXIII just when the show is over?

I'm pretty sure it's just that the FFVI and/or FFVII contenders weren't announced until TGS, with the others being revealed through more regular press.

KH2 wasn't that great of a game. Sure it was a KH 'experience', but it wasn't a good one.

Yeah, Disney owns marvel now so, next week in episode 54 of Kingdom Hearts 3:

Sora goes to visit Xavier but, realizes Wolverine is not having it which is obvious with his, "let's go bub!" welcoming!

These possibilities are quite funny. Though in all honesty I don't mind the whole no closed theater BS. I'm tired of seeing pimped up trailers of games that takes square-enix 20 years to come out with anyway. Seriously, why you gonna tease me and make me wet my pants to tell me the game is still 5 years away, will get delayed another year because we are working on 100,000 other titles at once, and delay it another year for technical issues with your custom engine, just to tell me I have to wait two more years because you decided to port the game for multiple consoles with simultaneous release WHICH you haven't even started working on yet because you decided it at, "what time is it?", about five minutes ago.

Has been quite a few years now though since kingdom hearts 2. While I will eat up their handheld moldy turkey sandwich buy me some side story games I do wonder, "When are we gonna hear something on Kingdom Hearts 3 for an actual home console?".

I think Nomura in an interview regarding the KH series and the Disney partnership did mention after these two handheld games it will be, "Sora's turn to return to the table.", so to speak. Be it KH3 or something else who knows! Ah, here it is:
