No one but Chair & Orson Scott Card know the details of his compensation, but it's entirely possible that he doesn't even see a dime from XBLA sales. The intellectual property was created by Chair, and OSC is the guy that somehow got picked to write the novels based off of it. If you're boycotting the game to specifically punish Card then you're very possibly completely missing your target. If however you're doing it to punish Chair for deciding to do business with him in the first place then that's another thing.

The sad fact is, there are a lot of bigots out there, and it's pretty much a given that everyday your money funnels to those people in ways you aren't even aware of. Shadow Complex is an excellent game. It might be the best downloadable game to hit the home consoles to date. It would be a shame if all that effort went unrewarded. However, if a rational discussion results in a number of gamers learning about what a dickhead Card is, or how that type of mindset is completely unacceptable in this day and age, then we are all the better for it.

Altairio,

I enjoyed Ender's Game as much as the next guy, but am not a big follower of OSC, so pardon my ignorance (other that what I just read on Wiki) on his views. But regardless if I agree or disagree with his views on any given topic (homosexuality or other), to say that views such as his should not be allowed in this day and age is both hypocritical and ignorant.

If you are allowed to have your views, he has to be allowed to have his, and trust me, we don't live in some "special" or "enlightened" age where certain views have been shed and "better" views have been birthed. There's nothing new under the sun.

Spartacus,

Those are some mental backflips you’re doing there.

http://filipspagnoli.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/intolerance1.gif

The notion that we must be tolerant of intolerance is asinine. Making allowances for discrimination is being an accomplice to it. True, every person can think whatever they want, but the views of OSC & his ilk are becoming increasingly irrelevant, outdated and socially unacceptable. In many ways, homosexuals are the last group it is okay to be outwardly hateful and bigoted against. But these times they are a changin’.

This game is seriously bad ass! Every time that I want to put it down, I discover a new item that I want to mess around with.

I've never bought anything on XBLA but this made me change my ways! And no joke, it was the most worthwhile purchase I've made in a long time, not to mention just plain fun!

am I the only one who hated the story of this game? I found it quite boring. The gameplay was great, I just couldn't stand the story and didn't really like the main character.

The story was generic and boring, the main character was a dick. Who cares, the game is awesome.

This game's a useless piece of shit..........for being awesome and coming out the same time as Batman, leaving me with a moral dilemma of which game to play. Tonight maybe I'll just play both, and ignore my fiance.

They should "rogue" it up with random generator or maybe user generated maps.

This is the reason I need a 360. I want this game so bad. Most anticipated title. More than any game that's not out, and any game that's out that I haven't played. I'd rather have Shadow Complex than InFamous, Killzone, Halo, Gears of War, Uncharted 2, Final Fantasy Amillion, Prototype... list goes on.

Super Metroid is my favorite game of all time, and this game just sounds so good. Hopefully my GF wasn't kidding around when she blatently told me she was going to get me a 360 for my birthday or Christmas. Or, that it comes to PC/PSN.

Hold on now, let's not say anything we can't take back. More excited for shadow complex than Uncharted 2? That's crazy talk!

Don't get me wrong I loved the hell out of shadow complex but come on... it's Uncharted 2.

Now with even more Nolan North than Shadow Complex.

Next step is 3D.

@Frag And deservedly so. Shadow Complex is great, but for $15 you can't go wrong with BF1943.

I think it would be cool if they released a DLC pack that came with a new weapon like a flamethrower that came with a added on a basement level with interactive objects that you could say burn for example.

Regarding the "controversy" (such as it is) over the storyline, it should be pointed out that the story in this game is almost non-existant.

The story itself is laughable, even for video games. There are no great insights in to the human condition to be found here.

The game is good simply for what it is: a side-scrolling shooter with high production values.

And no, it's not Metroid, or Castlevania. I dare anyone to play those games now, then play Shadow Complex, and say they've had the same experience. As it should, Shadow Complex goes far beyond just being some kind of clone.

Well, I look at it this way: Super Metroid is my favorite game ever. I loved Uncharted, but not as much as Super Metroid. I could play both games back-to-back right now and enjoy playing Super Metroid more than Uncharted. Shadow Complex is sort of like a newer Super Metroid-esque game, where Uncharted 2 is going to be a better Uncharted 1 (in theory).

Totally not saying which is or might be a better game overall, but they ARE different from each other, and I liked one style better than the other, so the choice is natural to me.

It's sort of like.. your favorite racing game ever is Mario Kart 64. You really liked Gran Turismo 3, but not as much as Mario Kart 64. Naturally, you'd be more exited about Mario Kart Wii than the next Gran Turismo.

I see what you're saying. In any case Shadow Complex IS fantastic and you should definitely check it out.

FYI Super Metroid really is one of the best games of all time!

Why buy it when I can play it for free with the trial glitch? I don't think I'll pay $15 just for achievements and the ability to save. Background aiming pisses me off anyway, insane was stupid because of it. Nobody else seems to have the background aiming problem, but for me, it points at the back wall instead of the enemy and when I move it, it points over their head.

agreed that is annoying.. but dude, you buy the game so they can make more PIFF games like this. That'd be great for the 49803th iteration of Tetris but for brand spankin new IP? You gotta drop the greenbacks!

awesome game.. especially for XBLA. This is the quality we SHOULD expect from downloadables nowadays... I'm annoyed though that I got to a part in the game where I NEED missiles to continue but haven't found them yet somehow.. WTF!?

I'd be all over this if I could spare the hard drive space. Maybe Microsoft could release a reasonably priced upgrade that would give me more space without forcing me to delete everything... (Key words: "reasonably priced")
