Batman: Arkham Asylum glides to top spot in UK

You come to Joystiq for the lulz about video games, but we've got something a little extra today: Proof of a higher power. Not just that, but a higher power that loves you and rewards awesome games. According to Chart-Track, Batman: Arkham Asylum has taken the top spot in the UK sales charts for the week, beating out Wii Sports Resort, which seems nothing short of miraculous from where we're sitting.

The console split was pretty close to even, with 55 percent on Xbox and 45 on PS3, so it would seem that the Joker exclusivity thing panned out. We're so pleased that Arkham's performing well that we can't find anything to be snarky about. Imagine that!

Yes, wins. As in, selling more software which equals more money from the cut that MS gets for each game sold.

I don't think a ps3 game has ever outsold its 360 counterpart (obviously only talking about multiplatform games here). If it has happened, it hasn't happened much.

I think Prince of Persia was damn near dead on with each platform

So i'm afraid your comment is wrong and your are misinformed, yes some mulitplatform titles sell better on the Xbox 360 but some sell better on PS3.

that is true, but look at your list. it is weak.
the numbers are so close to call, and you are using estimates as your figures.

what about the hundreds of games that have sold more on the 360?
and what about the games that have sold millions more on the 360 such as cod4?
what something like 3-4 million copies more of that game were sold on the 360.

if you take the total number of multi-platform games sold on the 360 and ps3, the 360 would win by tens of millions of copies sold.
that can be considered a win. but when 5-10 games out of over 300 games have sold more copies on 1 console, that is not much news.

but who cares ?

Wow. PS3 with a much smaller install base gets 45% of the cake? Wow. The exclusive PS Home content/challenge maps sold some copies I guess o.O

AND the Joker DLC

I've almost finished this wonderful game. Once I'm done, I'll plug my Sonic and Knuckles cartridge into my Batman cartridge and play Knuckles: Arkham Asylum.

I hear the gliding mechanic transitions quite nicely.

Gliding around as knuckles isn't as cool since there isn't a massive cape.

Who is knuckles?

They NEEEDD another one for sure. This was tooo golden of a game. easliy one of my top 5. But I don't want them to spoil the integrity of Arkham... Maybe the next one set it in Gotham?

When the police radio mentions Two-face I don't think you'll be doing anything about him in the sequel. It's just there to show that Batman doesn't take a break from crime fighting. Also, when Croc said that I just thought it was the obligatory "i'll get you next time" speech.

the last scene of the game you see Croc grab the last box of joker's venom mutation formula and swim away!

I thought it was Bane 0.o

Ah well, i'll have a look again to make sure.

Reading up on the ending it can be Bane, Killer Croc or Scarecrow 0.o

If I'm not mistaken, the chart combined the Batman:AA sales of the PS3 and 360, vs the single platform sales of Wii Sports Resort. So, on a per platform basis, Wii Sports Resort still wins.

As is almost always the case, Batman will be on top for a week or 2 (because it's a strong title, i'll give it a month tops) before it slowly starts sinking down and then the Wii Sports Resorts and Wii Fits of the world will climb back up to the top again. This pattern repeats itself a lot.

That might be true if you did not explore the possibility of them releasing more DLC that could enhance the gaming experience thus keep Batman on top for longer and generate more sales.

Considering it states "New Downloadable Content Coming Soon." on the ticker when you start the game...

I think it's pretty safe to say DLC is definetely not just a possibility.

But, does additional DLC cause enough of a sales tick to boost the game back up to #1? I'm not sure there's enough people on the fence about it that additional DLC will make 10 000s of people suddenly go out and buy the game they were putting off? DLC will definitely be good people already owning the game, but I doubt it has enough sway to get thousands of people to go out and buy it.
