GfK Chart-Track notes the Xbox 360 had a 43 percent sales increase over the weekend in the UK, following the price drop which sent the console's Elite version to a friendlier £199. With Sony's PS3 Slim model expected to hit the region this week, it'll be interesting to compare the percentage increase in sales for both consoles. We'd prefer actual sales numbers instead of percentages, but that's apparently not happening.
To get a good grasp on the actual console sales, post price drop, it appears we'll have to wait for September's US NPD figures, which won't be released until mid-October. At that time, we'll compare them to the August numbers to get a better idea of the price drop's impact. Exciting!

Percentages mean nowt. For example, 43% of 10 is still 4.3, and I don't think 4.3 is that great a number that calls for glorious celebration.

I read "spike" and I immediately assumed down. Also, the RSS feeder read Sliwinski so I didn't actually read the blog in question. Downvote me.

Since when does a sales spike mean that you have less sales?

@WREturns: It's technically a sales vagina in that case.

1) I'm waiting for work to start and it's hip-hop night tonight. This will relax me.
2) Because the Roma have plundered and raped Italy and are no longer welcome in that land, hence the vigilante violence. Their flight has seen the Roma occupy parts near Tower Hamlets, where I reside. Then we have a dodgy Mullah every other week invited to make a speeches to the local jobless, the disaffected many, yet the sane make barely a squeak for fear of appearing uppity of sorts. There's other stuff as well, but it basically boils down to the fact that everyone is losing, and that everyone barely has a voice. It just feels like the big game is over.

wait hold on a second.
even if spike did mean a decrease
and if you did think that they only sold 43% of what they usually sell...
why would the celebrate that regardless of the number
even if they sold a billion consoels and instead they sold 430 million
that is still nothing to celebrate as it is a decrease.

I more waiting for the Super Elite, which would surely be a Jasper.. but then my 360 Elite is still going strong after 2 years..
told my mate I'd get a PS3 when a slim turned up.. (for the odd co-op game) but then, following the PSones & 2's trend of progressively worse hardware on each revision (or at least in the UK).. I'm gonna wait see...

So... Every home in Europe doesn't already have an Xbox 360? They were crossing their fingers for five years awaiting a price drop of the Xbox 360 Elite? When Sony just dropped the price of the best Blu-ray player on the market down to $299? I thought Microsoft jacked up the price of the Xbox 360 in Europe anyway. Alright, whatever. Lets see how the Slim does.
$299 price point. Free WiFi, Free Online Gaming, only accessory you really need to buy is an HDMI cable $3.99 on eBay. No Gold Member Resrictions. Everyones equal in the PlayStation Universe. And a powerhouse of first party titles releasing early Spring 2010.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (Ex) - Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 (Ex) - Assassins Creed 2 - Ratchet & Clank: A Crack In Time (Ex) - Gran Turismo 5 (Ex) - God of War & God of War II HD (Ex) - MAG (Ex) - Heavy Rain (Ex) - Bayonetta - God of War III (Ex) - Metal Gear Solid 4 (Ex) - Unhcarted: Drakes Fortune (Ex) - LittleBigPlanet (Ex) - Heavenly Sword (Ex) - Devil May Cry 4 - Killzone 2 (Ex) - Infamous (Ex) - Resistance & Resistance 2 (Ex) - Lost Planet 2 - Dead Rising 2
Xbox 360?
Gears of War (Ex) - Gears of War 2 (Ex) - Lost Planet: Extreme Condition - Dead Rising (Ex) - Alan Wake (Ex) - Left 4 Dead (Ex) - Left 4 Dead 2 (Ex). And uh....uh... Halo? Are you serious!? I guess Mass Effect can work.
But there's a big difference in games and GAME QUALITY. 50GB Dual layer Blu-ray can do a lot for ya vs a 9GB old school Dual Layer DVD.

The PS3 isn't the best Blu-Ray player on the market. It's a damn fine one, but calling it the best is just your attempt to sell to everyone on Joystiq a PS3.
That was as far as I got into your comment, until feeling overwhelmed by incredible bias.
Stop being a fucking troll, go the fuck away, and next time you promote Sony-ism, please get paid for it.

First of all, you missed alot of good exclusives for the 360. And secondly, why did you give points for the ps3 with bayonetta, devil may cry 4, lost planet 2 and dead rising 2 but not for the 360?

Why would anyone buy a PSP instead of a DS?
DS: Mario Kart, Super Princess Peach, Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword, Chinatown Wars, Sonic Rush, Animal Crossing, Pokemon, Final Fantasy IV, New Super Mario, Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Quest, Professor Layton.
PSP: Crisis Core, God of War.
Why would anyone buy a PSP?!
Oh right. I missed a ridiculously large number of games for it.

They jacked up the price in the sense that they removed the £190 Pro and replaced it with a £200 elite.
So they still dropped the price of the Elite by a good £50 or so, and you can buy an Arcade if you REALLY want a cheap console.
P.S. Also, you're retarded. And this is from someone who owns a PS3 and not a 360.

okay okay, my favorite part by far was (hard choice with all the missing titles on 360 and the halo joke btw) when he said -everyone's equal- in the playstation universe.
like as if playstation and xbox are rights that every person in the world has by birth and they must all be given everything regardless of their class. if everyone was really equal in the playstation universe for not charging for online, how come the people who dont have money cant even buy a playstation in the first place. does sony not care about thsoe people, are they not people and therefore equal to others who deserve a playstation, infact, even if everyone did have a free playstation, if i cannot afford little big planet but my friend can, am i not a person in sony's eyes who is equal to my lbp playing friend?
WOW. equal. how is it, up there, in your ass?

PS3 should have a higher percentage simply for the fact it was selling less. If you sell 1 but then sell 3, that's a 200% increase.
If you sell 5 but then you sell 10, that's only a 100% increase.

Kind of. In reality, percentages are the best comparison numbers for this application (sales increases) , but raw sales data would certainly be good for the complete picture.
Either way, Sony and MS will release the data which sounds the best.

Elite model never sold well. So this is a good chance to get rid of stock. But bear in mind MS took the HDMI cable AND component cable out of the new package...
Posted: Sep 2nd 2009 12:45AM R Planteer said
It does suck, but HDMI cables are quite literally cheaper than dirt (well, the good kind of dirt), and I can kind of see MS's point on the component cables.
Lets see.. including me I know probably...5 people with 360s. None of them use component. 3 use HDMI, 1 uses composite, and 1 uses the VGA cable.
I really wonder how many people actually used that component attachment? If you are including a cable that less than 20% of the people receiving it use, then that would be a waste of money.
Still for the few people out there that havent bought a 360, have an HD TV without a spare HDMI port, that plan on buying a 360 now, it does suck pretty bad.
They really should have kept the HDMI cable though.

I wouldn't expect PS3 sales to rise that much, considerin there has been zero publicity unless you frequently visit sites like this or visit Gamestation/GAME regularly. The average public will barely even know that a Slim version of the PS3 exists.
