The controller defaults to port 7.
Change it back to port 1.

I jumped on last night to play Fat Princess and noticed that my controller seemed sluggish and a little inaccurate. I thought it was just me though. Maybe not. I've got the silver DualShock.

Well it looks like 99% of the faulty DS3s are FAKES....

It cannot be considered as a 3rd party product, Simply because the FAKE controllers & packages have SONY/PS/DS3 etc. logos on it, it's now more like a criminal case.

Of course SONY would stop you from using the FAKES. What if the rechargable batteries in one of these exploded like those fake cell phone batteries ?? They would get sued.

If you unknowingly bought FAKE ROLEX/LV/GUCCI etc. and you found out later, would you take them to the REAL shops and complain ??? Complain to the sellers!!

Instead of taking it out on SONY, why don't you guys give them (and ebay) the sellers' information so maybe their lawyers can act on it?

Okay, this issue has been brought to me but not with the DualShock 3. Those of you that still use the Sixaxis controllers may find this issue depending on the current model of your PS3 (60GB - 80GB models) may find that the sixaxis no longer turns on... However, I cannot be certain that this happens to the US version of the 60 - 80 GB versions of the PS3, I am certain that this is the case for a 60 GB PS3 in Europe. The firmware has haulted the ability of the sixaxis controller for the plaintiff's PS3 to even connect... It does connect in terms of charging, but cannot turn on when the plaintiff's hit the PS button. This can be looked into further as it may be just an entirely different issue. My solution was: Buy a DualShock 3.

played Mirror's Edge for 2 hours last night and didn't experience any problems, so it's safe to say that game is unaffected by the patch.

Played with a SONY brand dualshock 3.

God damn that game is frustrating but I can't stop playing it.

That linked thread on the Playstation forums eventually yielded a "How to Tell If your Dualshock 3 is a Knock-Off or Not" video on Youtube. Nearly all (or all?) who are having trouble are those who have just learned that their DS3's are Hong Kong knock-off's. It's a little sad because they probably had no idea they were knock-off's, and Sony probably won't (or shouldn't) do anything to support knock-off products.

Once the update was available I noticed both my Dualshock3 and my original non-rumble controller wouldn't connect wirelessly. They worked fine when I restarted the system and plugged them in directly to the USB, however, and once I ran the update all was well.

Not to belabor the subj...ok fuck I'm belaboring the subject, but at this time I think a title change is needed for this article. As at this point, it is misleading and unfair to certain parties.

@Special Agent Steve (and anyone else who is suffering this): where did you get your controller? Mine is malfunctioning and I got it (cheaper) via Ebay from Hong Kong- I was surprised that it seemed to be manufactured to a lower quality than my 2 sixaxis contollers-the accelerometer stopped picking up downwards movement, so I had a look inside... and it seems to be a fake (Yes, it did SEEM to be in the correct packaging and maybe it seemed to have the correct paperwork but I didn't exactly examine it thouroughly- I just wanted to play WITH RUMBLE): the L1/L2 and R1/R2 buttons are on little brown circuit boards, not the same assemblies as in my sixaxis (or in the pictures on the net of the inside of a proper Dualshock 3); the top buttons are again on a brown circuit board, not a flexi membrane (as they should be); the battery is smaller and has no writing on- it should be the same as the sixaxis battery (and probably not glued to the circuit board); also the main IC on the board is Toshiba branded in the sixaxis (and the Dualshock 3 board I've seen online); the L3 and R3 buttons are very clunky when clicked... also 'Dualshock 3' is printed a little wonky on the outside, and the label doesn't seem quite fancy enough- also one of the screws holding the contoller together is located UNDER the label... It always took about twice as long to sync with the console as my other controllers, and now doesn't... Has Sony found out about fakes circulating and shut them down with some Bluetooth ID checking?

...yes... foryoushopping is still on ebay, I have messaged them asking for a refund- they are still selling white DS3's (presumably fakes):

Hi All,

I was experiencing the same problem as most of the other users on the forum. I have a Sony TV and have Bravia synced my PS3 to it. That ways whenever i switch on the TV, the PS3 also starts up. That ways i never really used the PS button on the controller to switch on the PS3. After the 3.0 update, the lights on the controller would blink continously and then turn off and the controller was unresponsive.

But, by some chance when the PS3 was off, i clicked the PS button on the controller, and voila the controller started working
