Forza 3 welcomes 1000-horsepower Bugatti Veyron supercar
You've never heard of the Bugatti Veyron, the latest addition to the Forza Motorsport 3 lineup of cars? Neither had we; it's not the type of car we're likely to spot around town. If the above video – detailing the process used to convert the Veyron's various "gauges" and "horsepowers" into equally alluring ones and zeroes – is to be believed, the Veyron is "probably the most coveted car in the world right now."
Coveted is one thing; obtainable another. The $1.4 million, nearly 1000-horsepower Veyron is rare. Rare like: Forza developers Turn 10 tracked one down in southern California with the help of Bugatti but they themselves didn't get a chance to drive it! So if you want to know what it's like to drive one, you have a couple options: Read our sister site Autoblog's First Drive with the Veyron; Go back in time and put one penny in a savings account and, upon returning to your own time, reap the rewards of compound interest; Or you could play Forza Motorsport 3 and crash the thing straight into a wall. And then rewind it.
Stay tuned for our interview with Forza 3's game director Dan Greenawalt, who shares some details on the Veyron, on the game's second disc, the inclusion of damage modeling in Sony's long-time-coming Gran Turismo 5, and what type of game he thinks Turn 10 would make if it changed genres.

Saweet!
RageOverdose @ Sep 2nd 2009 10:22AM
I've heard of it.
It's the fastest production car available, extremely expensive, and requires a second key to unlock it's true speed potential by morphing the car for better aerodynamics. The fact that it's in this game is exciting. Too bad I haven't touched a racing sim since GT3 (for no reason other than I have other gaming priorities and not a super flow of cash).
Kattleox @ Sep 2nd 2009 2:06PM
Sorry, bub, the SSC Ultimate Aero is the fastest car in the world at 256.18 mph. And thats just what they have managed to do with the limited length of road in the world: the Ultimate Aero TT in fact has a 272 mph top speed, as opposed the "measley" Buggatti's 250 which hasn't held the record for two years now.
The Veyron is old news. Gimme a call when something breaks Mach 1.
BIGGEN (LIVE-PSN: BIGGEN1103) @ Sep 2nd 2009 2:47PM
@Kattleox
ya know, i can't stand people like you.
RageOverdose @ Sep 2nd 2009 3:15PM
He is right, although his numbers are wrong.
The Ultimate Aero only holds the record a little over 2mph more than the Veyron. While it's "theoretical" speeds in newer models are over 270, it has never reached them.
So, it's the 2nd fastest, and not by much, although at those speeds the wind resistance is massive, so it is probably more than it seems. I think the Veyron still accelerates faster, but I can't find any details right now on that one.
Either troll fail or just straight up prick, pick one.
shawn @ Sep 2nd 2009 3:25PM
SSC Ultimate Aero: 257 mph, 0-60 in 2.7 secs. Twin-Turbo V8 Engine with 1183 hp, base price is $654,400. Tested in March 2007 by Guinness world records, The SSC Ultimate Aero takes the lead as the fastest car in the world beating Bugatti Veyron.
sk8monroe81 (PSN--XBL) @ Sep 2nd 2009 9:39PM
damn i can drop a 900+ HP supercharged Mopar Crate Engine in my dodge truck or dodge charger for $ 38,000.00
thats a lot of money for HP and having a flashy ride....
damn what people do with their money sometimes.
but 0-60 would be 4 seconds, instead of 2.4.. damn that is fast.
but can you even drive that on a road, within legal speed limits, without damaging the car?
lol i know you cant compare a freaking truck to a race car, but still...
CaramelZappa @ Sep 5th 2009 10:54PM
I've heard disputes saying that the Ultimate Aero while faster than the Veyron still doesn't count as the fastest production car in the world because they apparently haven't actually delivered any cars to people. I'm not sure about that though.
And regardless, the Veyron is still an amazing technical achievement and it has much more class and appeal than the Ultimate Aero. It's pretty exciting to have such an excellent car in a racing game.
Not THAT Matt @ Sep 7th 2009 11:56PM
Kattle,
The Veyron has been taken to 258 pretty easily, 253 is just what it's rated at. And sorry, but the Veyron gets there much faster than the SSC does.
Our 2006 Hyundai Sonata had a top speed of 144 MPH, that doesn't mean our 2007 Pontiac G6 V6 is "slower" even though it's a much faster car, it only goes to 105 before the Governor kicks in.
Durr durr durr is all I can say to you.
Retard.
Chief Oddball @ Sep 2nd 2009 10:23AM
Cool man. I saw a Veyron not too long ago (there are a lot of rich, retired bankers in this town) and it was pretty stunning.
Really looking forward to this game. I think I have more hours in Forza 2 than any other Xbox 360 title.
mikel miranda @ Sep 2nd 2009 10:48AM
I have heard of it, you can watch it race a jet on Top Gear.

Love Top Gear.
jynxycat @ Sep 2nd 2009 10:28AM
"You've never heard of the Bugatti Veyron?"
I'm willing to bet LOTS of people have :P
Whocares @ Sep 2nd 2009 11:13AM
yeah, I was surprised they havn't heard of it. Either the good folks at Joystiq need to get out of their offices a bit more or I need to stop watching so much Top Gear.
Paul @ Sep 2nd 2009 11:34AM
Who is that in your avatar?
Eh @ Sep 2nd 2009 11:46AM
Its hard not to know about the fastest production car in the world. How can any male not know about the Veyron? Its been around for years and is quite famous, its the benchmark for super cars.
X3HaloEd @ Sep 2nd 2009 12:36PM
I was pretty much about to post the exact same thing. Who _hasn't_ heard of the Veyron?
Hardcore @ Sep 2nd 2009 2:10PM
Seriously Joystiq - check your balls in at the door, you are no longer licensed to carry them.
ToadStoolPorridge @ Sep 2nd 2009 5:13PM
I almost posted the exact same thing. This car is absolutely insane and I would kill to drive one, let alone see one in person. A lot of my friends aren't nearly as into cars as I am and they've still heard of the Veyron, so I was surprised to see them say they had never heard of it.
I think it would be a lot of fun if they threw something like the Atom car in the game or something.
Ample Salty @ Sep 2nd 2009 10:32AM
They should have got Simon Cowell to lend him his. That or nip down to Top Gear.
As Clarkson might say:
POWERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
Rocks @ Sep 2nd 2009 10:34AM
Top Gear is the shizzle. that is all.
Space @ Sep 2nd 2009 10:52AM
man, I haven't watched top gear in a while.... since they ripped those cars apart and drove across those salt flats in africa. that was incredible!
I'm not even sure if it comes on in america
Big_Lozbowski @ Sep 2nd 2009 11:02AM
@space yeah it comes on Monday nights on BBC America. but they are about two seasons behind the UK.
Hashbrown Hunter (OneGiantCluster.blogspot.com) @ Sep 2nd 2009 6:00PM
Top Gear owns all. This is the video where Hammond raced the fighter plane with the Veyron. For those who don't understand why this car is such a big deal, WATCH THIS VIDEO.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=7NZ9X9A2efA
...pretty f*cking awesome right?
maveric101 @ Sep 2nd 2009 8:41PM
holy god Hashbrown, that shit's better than porn.
Martin Greenberg @ Sep 2nd 2009 10:31AM
Haha...I knew about that car a while ago, which is sort of funny since even if I owned one I couldn't drive it.
dark_inchworm (stronger than never, ever before) @ Sep 2nd 2009 10:32AM
I have one, but my girlfriend cruises around in it enough that I was thinking about picking up another later this evening. What do you think?
swimtedswim @ Sep 2nd 2009 10:41AM
yes, but can you wait 60 seconds? your mom is bringing some freshly microwaved hotpockets to your mancave
dark_inchworm (stronger than never, ever before) @ Sep 2nd 2009 10:44AM

Aaron @ Sep 2nd 2009 10:35AM
Looking forward to this game with some Super Duper Anticipation !
jynxycat @ Sep 2nd 2009 10:35AM
ps. The linked article above puts it best;
"First of all, you don't accelerate in the Veyron Grand Sport. That is what humans do in their puny human conveyances. You evaporate, and then you reappear somewhere down the road. And if someone, like a police officer or maybe St. Peter, were to ask you what happened, all you could say is "I think I remember pushing my foot down, like this... and then... I was here..."
JNub @ Sep 2nd 2009 11:29AM
do you know the name of the model used in your pic?Its has nothing to do with masterbation honest
Dr.House @ Sep 2nd 2009 1:54PM
-_-
JNub @ Sep 2nd 2009 10:37AM
talking of top gear this car didnt do to well on the track, still its one hell of a car to look at,thumbs up for including it in F3
Eat.Sleep.Folk @ Sep 2nd 2009 11:00AM
It didn't do bad on the Top Gear track. Not really. It handled exceptionally well, and kept its composure the whole time. On a track with turns as tight as on that one, it's crazy that a 4400 LB car did as well as it did, 1001 HP or not.
JNub @ Sep 2nd 2009 1:46PM
it is currently 6th,below the zonda roadster,Koenigsegg and the almighty gumpert apollo to name a few,but i know alot of people thought it would be top because of its godly spec
Lord HowitHurtz @ Sep 2nd 2009 10:37AM
You've never heard of the Bugatti Veyron??
What kind of un-men are you guys?
X3HaloEd @ Sep 2nd 2009 12:40PM
+1
Hashbrown Hunter (OneGiantCluster.blogspot.com) @ Sep 2nd 2009 6:07PM
Seriously, almost EVERYONE has at least heard of the Bugatti Veyron.
Fastest car in the world? Has an aerodynamic mode? Was only beaten by a fighter plane by 4 seconds? Really?!
COME ON!!!
j.howlett @ Sep 2nd 2009 10:40AM
that's a nice looking car.
Collymilad @ Sep 2nd 2009 10:42AM
""You've never heard of the Bugatti Veyron?"
I'm willing to bet LOTS of people have :P"
Exactly. It was only the fastest car in the world for bloody ages, in fact it might still be im not sure.
Lunastra78 (PSN: lunastra78) @ Sep 2nd 2009 10:46AM
Nice car, I prefer the Koenigsegg though.
panzerklein @ Sep 2nd 2009 1:27PM
As do I.
I've always loved the Koenigsegg ever since Top Gear put it round the track and exclaimed it would to better with a wing on the back...
Ozzpot @ Sep 2nd 2009 10:50AM
I'm surprised that there's anyone in the developed world that hasn't heard of the Bugatti Veyron. It's been the dream of many gamers for many years for it to appear in a proper racing game, and so far, for some reason, it hasn't.
I'm so glad we'll finally get the chance to experience it, and I'm glad it's going to be Forza that gives me that experience.
Louis @ Sep 2nd 2009 10:51AM
This car will only be usefuly on ovals or in a straight line, did you see them drifting the thing through corners.
Still awesome, and it makes me want Forza 3 even more.
