Gran Turismo PSP bundle arrives October 20 for $200
SCEA has announced yet another addition to its growing lineup of PSP "Entertainment Pack" bundles. The upcoming Gran Turismo pack joins Rock Band Unplugged and Hannah Montana this October by packaging a "Mystic Silver" PSP-3000 with a UMD copy of Gran Turismo, downloadable white Corvette ZR1, 2GB Memory Stick, and vouchers for movie and music downloads from the PlayStation Store and Sony Music Pass.
At $199, the limited edition bundle seems like quite a bargain, especially when you consider how much cheaper it is than a PSP Go. The announcement of yet another PSP-3000 package reaffirms Sony's stance on supporting UMD as a format -- but also places into doubt the viability of ending PSP piracy any time soon.

I'd rather have an import than an american car in the DLC voucher.
tmacairjordan87 @ Sep 2nd 2009 4:21PM
Well, you can put that final nail into the Go's coffin now. On a side note, they're not going to get rid of piracy until they decide to make a PSP 2 and completely abandon all the current ones. Putting games digital only won't do anything, as I've seen them on torrent sites.
I dunno how much of an effect the internal battery of the Go will have on piracy, but even if it stopped it, they can't abandon the people who bought the old PSP's, which means that as long as the PSP 1 exists there will always be piracy.
uncle jesse @ Sep 2nd 2009 4:26PM
Seriously, who would want to buy a Go with this deal out?
Night Elve @ Sep 2nd 2009 4:31PM
Why would you want to buy a Go anyway?
I mean if you already own a PSP, I really don't see the point of buying the Go.
Of course if the Go would still have a UMD Drive well that could be another story...
Space @ Sep 2nd 2009 4:32PM
yeah but the go is smaller and that is important with handhelds. People pay $200 for 16gb iPods even though there are 120gb ipods available for $50 more.
rv @ Sep 2nd 2009 4:51PM
The reason they pay for the 16gb is not for the size, its because it has a touch screen and can run all the iphone apps. That is not a relevant statement.
Tmacfan4321 @ Sep 2nd 2009 4:38PM
The Go will eventually be exploited. It's only a matter of time.
johnnynumber5 @ Sep 2nd 2009 5:21PM
I didn't think the 3000 itself had been hacked yet.
As for the PSP Go ... I want one badly just like I want a PS3 slim badly. I just want that new form factor thats smaller. I would probably even trade my original 60 GB launch PS3 for a PS3 Slim and some cash. I'm thinking about selling it online for a handsome bounty and then picking up the Slim and a few games.
I'm not crazy about the price of the PSP Go (who is?) but I don't think it's that much of a premium over the cost of a PSP 3000 core bundle. I'm someone who bought a 360, PS3, iPhone, PSP etc at launch and happily paid the early adopter tax.
I just want to hold the PSP Go in my hands to really get a feel for it's portability factor. The PSP 3000 is semi-portable in that it easily goes into a small case that can be looped onto a belt or thrown in my fiances purse. But, the GO looks like you just throw that thing into an Oakley sunglass bag, put it in your pocket and be on your way. Thats worth the premium IMO. Not to mention not having to carry around any UMDs adds to that portability factor ten fold.
Like I said, I could be working with dated information but I have been working under the assumption for a while that the PSP-3000 hadn't been hacked. I don't know all the terminology but I believe Sony added variant layers of additional software based securities. Maybe the 3000 has been cracked already but I know it hadn't been for a while.
sony boy (6 years til sony man child!) @ Sep 2nd 2009 5:40PM
the 3000 has been hacked thanks to chickhen. i'm ok, with homebrew, not piracy.

the 16gb ipod nano would like to have a talk with you

have fun with the smaller screen on the go johhny.
when it comes to handhelds, IMO, screen size is already so small there is no room to get any darn smaller.
the psp go screen is .5" smaller than the psp 3000.
the 3000 is darn light enough for me. any lighter and i would not know if it was in my hands maybe....
i get portabilitiy but i am a man and dont carry a purse around.
i have a few pockets and 1 takes up my wallet, the other takes up my phone, keys, chapstick, and a USB flash drive for quick back-ups at work.
im not about to put a pspGO in my back pocket and sit on it.
so a pspGO would still have to go in a girlfriends or fiances purse.
the GO in no way replaces my cell phone, and that will be in my pocket before a pspGO is, for work and necessity.
so i dont see the portability being a factor for me at all. its still a handheld gaming device that doesnt revolve around the everyday items i need to carry around and would need a place to go.
just my opinion on that.
sk8monroe81 (PSN--XBL) @ Sep 2nd 2009 11:31PM
and tmac is right IMO.
the pspGO will probably fail from the get go.
the psp had trouble and could never catch up to the DS or really have a strong market impact at any 1 time or even great profits from the psp.
how does sony even begin to think that releasing the same tech pretty much in a different design format, which will cost more than a psp now, will have much impact on the market ?
yes the dsi costs a bit more than a dslite, but people really like and want the DS brand and it still costs less than $ 170.00.
the psp was not able to have much market impact and profit, if any profit and i dont feel a more expensive PSPsmallWnoUMD+smallerScreen will do it either.
the ps3 slim will work and have an impact because it is similar tech, however $ 100 less than the current ps3 console was. making the slim $ 100 more than the current ps3 would have been a step backwards. it works the same way with the handheld consoles 2 IMO.
sk8monroe81 (PSN--XBL) @ Sep 2nd 2009 11:33PM
and if they hold out for christmas sales, i feel around the corner a needed GO price drop will come. probably $ 50.00
but who knows? sony doesnt care about winning anymore it seems.
Virtuous @ Sep 3rd 2009 12:07AM
The Go is a no Go.

Thanks for sharing. I don't see how it's relevant to me liking the smaller form factor but whatever. I don't know why you made three different posts in succession instead of one thought out and coordinated post but I digress. What does it matter to me if the screen size is too small for you? What does it matter to me if your a "man" who doesn't carry a purse? Macho hyperbole FTL. How does it effect me if you carry around lip gloss and you enjoy sitting on your wallet? Let me just make one suggestion because it sounds like you are struggling with this concept: Cargo Pants. They have two large extra pockets. Simple. Done.
I think people are underestimating the appeal of the PSP Go this holiday season. I'll beat the thing moves like gang busters across the three territories this fall/winter. I think the smaller games and apps at the sub $10 price point is really going to take off and the incentives they are giving developers to make this content is extraordinary when compared to the competition.
The PSP has made money for Sony since it launched. They don't have to catch Nintendo to be successful and they have already carved out more than a nice for themselves. I would imagine that it's a pretty large customer base for when they choose to launch the PSP2. The game lineup for the PSP this fall is off the charts amazing. This is with Rock band, Dissidia and Soul Caliber already having been released and all being amazing games (I have all of them). I can't wait for this GT game.
Not having to bring games along for the ride makes it even better. I would imagine a 32 GB iteration is on the horizon for the PSP GO. Anyway, it was kind of a douchebag comment by you which (unsurprisingly) is par for the course. Why the need to constantly troll Sony threads? It's just bizarre.
sk8monroe81 (PSN--XBL) @ Sep 3rd 2009 4:11PM
johnny-
youre reasoning for getting a GO almost had me into getting one 2, when you talked about portablity, but after thinking about it much, for me, it would not be a big deal.
you do realize that a psp 3000 easily fits inside of a cargo pocket right?
and with a memory stick, you dont need UMD's either. duh.
its ok that you are 1 of a few that feels the GO is going in the right direction for sony and will be popular. its ok you are wrong most of the time due to your fanboy tendancies.
for all you know about sony products for you to not know the psp3000 was hacked is just a bit oblivious to me....
and my second post was a direct response to the OP tmac.
remember i still have a 360, ps3, & psp...
while you do not have a 360, so we all know that johnny is a ps3, sony fanboy.
its plain and simple.
tmacairjordan87 @ Sep 2nd 2009 4:31PM
As it stands now, you're gonna have to wait a while (you were probably joking but whatever) cause Sony updated the firmware for most new games to 5.55 and none of the big CFWs support that yet.
Infidel @ Sep 2nd 2009 4:32PM
its nice to finally see the psp release a good bundle that will drive people to buy it, i find it such a shame it isnt more popular than it is, it really deserves to be. well done sony for turning things around recently and actually acting like a company who ran the show for 2 console generations.
Duke @ Sep 2nd 2009 4:40PM
I totally agree, its great to see a Hannah Montana PSP pack. I for one am excited as all hell!
sony boy (6 years til sony man child!) @ Sep 2nd 2009 4:34PM
doesn't psp 3000's come with 5.03??? far as i know, that's hackable with chickhen.
johnnynumber5 @ Sep 2nd 2009 5:29PM
I believe ChickHen is working on the 3000 but it doesn't allow you to add custom firmware (downgrade or otherwise) or run [emulated] games. Again, I haven't checked up on it lately but as far as I know the 3000 still hasn't been fully exploited.
What ChickHEN does NOT do:
Run ISO, CSO, or any other form of UMD backup
Run PSX Games
Touch The Flash
Allow the use of Custom Firmware
Load plugins
This could all be dated information. Its just sad people put some much time and effort into something for the sole purpose of stealing games. I'm sure there are those who will act as if they have benevolent intentions but the fact of the matter is people want to steal games. To each his own I suppose.
Saikisen @ Sep 2nd 2009 7:03PM
johnny, thats the thing. The 3000 has been exploited like you said but it was never completely hacked to run things that tamper with flash files such as flash themes. The dev ( Davee I think, forgot his name) personally never placed in ISO or PSX running software in chickHEN simply because of his stance on piracy. I forgot who it was but someone went around it to make a plugin or homebrew called CFW enabler to allow PSX games and ISOs to run which I personally found wrong. Later on, according to my friend GEN released a firmware for psp 3000s to run ( not sure if it is true) which allows cfw like abilities to run, according to him.
It really is down right dissapointing to hear this when Davee took such a stance against piracy on the 3000 only to have devs like the ones who made cfw enabler ruin his hard work. No matter what the devs who made that plugin/homebrew say about playing legal backups I still feel what Davee did was right and that they shouldnt have created cfw enabler to begin with.
Lekko @ Sep 2nd 2009 4:34PM
I think I might get this. I have my 1000 for CFW and all the fun things it can do, but I've been looking to get a 3000 for skype and remote play with TV-out. Gran Turismo just makes the deal sweeter, but not a fan of the silver.
Bradwart @ Sep 2nd 2009 7:12PM
Silver doesn't show the fingerprints and scratches like the Piano Black does.
TM @ Sep 2nd 2009 4:36PM
good deal there....

No Kill Tayler @ Sep 2nd 2009 4:49PM
Why silver?
tmacairjordan87 @ Sep 2nd 2009 4:50PM
Cause they would have had to raise the price to $250 for gold.
No Kill Tayler @ Sep 2nd 2009 5:05PM
Hahaha but, seriously. Does anoyone prefer the silver over the other models?
I'm really considering the Go. (why? I don't own a Ipod Touch and I like the 2,3,4 $ games.)
Plus it would fit in my pocket.
Zerokku @ Sep 2nd 2009 5:37PM
Anything over the glossy black. I love black systems, but I can't stand the glossy finish that will get fingerprints just by looking at it. I'm a bit OCD about that :P
Bradwart @ Sep 2nd 2009 7:18PM
It's mainly fingerprints. I paid an extra 20 for my netbook to change the casing to aluminum instead of glossy plastic. I felt it was worth it, and I'll likely get this bundle because it's silver. (GT is just a bonus).
killdash9 @ Sep 2nd 2009 8:37PM
I prefer the silver. All my game systems except the PS3 are silver. To make up for it, the PS3 has a silver DS3, and my PS3 wallpaper is a picture I took of the other systems all arranged into a nice, silvery display.
Don't believe me? I assure you, I am no silver-tongued devil.
Ethan @ Sep 2nd 2009 4:49PM
This is great, if you bought a PSP thinking this game would be out in 2005 you probably do need a replacement now.

I would love to buy this game, but as it stands I only use my psp when taking a shit (not joking)
CH3BURASHKA @ Sep 2nd 2009 4:57PM
The marketing of the PSP Go has so far been a clusterfuck - they keep releasing bundles like these below the PSP Go price and then expect people to be excited about an expensive, gimped system.

den-69 @ Sep 2nd 2009 6:10PM
5.55 CFW is supported, you just have to edit a file to say that your version is 5.55
Robert K. @ Sep 2nd 2009 6:12PM
I'd just like to know why it's only coming with a 2 gig memory stick. The Rock Band bundle comes with a 4 gig one, and if my memory is correct I think you still get a download voucher for a movie or something, in addition to the Rock Band game itself. All things being equal, I'd rather have a 4 gig memory stick instead of a downloadable movie.
filthyvillain @ Sep 25th 2009 9:04AM
Not to mention, if you download a movie, that's half your memory stick gone right there.
Mr Khan @ Sep 2nd 2009 6:20PM
That really does make the Go look like a bad value proposition, considering the equal bundle.
Though perhaps the difference in size will compensate.
