Guitar Hero 5: September DLC announced all at once

Activision announced the first month of DLC along with something called the "Guitar Hero Music Library," which, we believe, is a fancy marketing-style way of describing the collection of music you'll be able to build out of DLC, imported tracks, and on-disc content in Guitar Hero 5.

Maybe if they had more tracks from the faint I would consider playing this.

VaultBoy @ Sep 3rd 2009 12:32PM
3 songs a week? You'll have to do better than that Acti. Sadly what I have played of 5 is mostly MEH with a few high notes here and there. I defend GH constantly against the RB fanboys, but this one has as much filler as RockBand 2.
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Sep 2nd 2009 7:52PM
That's all we need, more AFI.
God fucking dammit.
Solace @ Sep 2nd 2009 7:54PM
I hate AFI RB: Unplugged always has it playing in the main menu yuck
David @ Sep 2nd 2009 7:51PM
you can announce your dlc for the next year for all i care, it still doesn't take away from the fact that only 35 of GHWT's songs can be imported into GH5, and the fact that none of GH5's DLC will be made available to owners of GHWT. activision, you've done a terrible job with...well....everything related to GH. thanks for running what was once a promising franchise completely into the ground.

Deuce-MRP- @ Sep 2nd 2009 8:02PM
Um, hello. Have you forgot about Rock Band?
ignore Guitar Hero, the true reason Guitar Hero got to it's peak was because of Harmonix, and they've moved on past the now money-hungry Guitar Hero Franchise.
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Sep 2nd 2009 8:17PM
Yea, Deuce is right, I've pretty much forgotten the existence of this game you people call "Guitar Hero". Anytime anyone mentions it I immediately think "Oh, you mean gimped Rock Band".
green11420 @ Sep 2nd 2009 8:37PM
I know, that's pretty dumb on their part.
dAnixx @ Sep 2nd 2009 9:27PM
LOL, yeah rock band... I played grand theft auto: rock band. it's basically the same thing except instead of stealing cars, you sell rockband to european gamers for 500$
Hafkie @ Sep 2nd 2009 9:55PM
You know, it's not entirely Activision's fault. Place the blame on Warner Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment too. Their songs aren't offered on the export, yet there is plenty of EMI, Universal Music Group, and indie tracks. Activision and WMG/SME haven't reached negotiations because WMG and SME want giant cuts out of the profits, essentially destroying profit made from DLC. This is why MTV/Harmonix stopped licensing WMG songs, remember?
Like they said many times, but you didn't do your research, they are negotiating deals for more WT songs. The WT export is a one time fee, and once you pay it, you will get any more WT songs that come out. Same with Smash Hits.
Joystiq never reports "this" information. It was in the fucking press release for crying out loud!
Vcize @ Sep 2nd 2009 10:49PM
Well, Harmonix is definitely the developer on the people's side of things. Which makes it all the more painful that I like GH's core gameplay oh so much more than RB's.
Pick your poison for me, either get the (what I perceive as) much better gameplay from the asshole developer who just wants to fuck me over, or get the (what I perceive as) much less fun gameplay from the developer that is on my side against big business.
And yes, I know most people don't prefer GH's core gameplay to RB's, but I can't help what I like. It's not my fault!
alinos @ Sep 2nd 2009 11:35PM
Harmonix are on the ppls side of things PLS there on the american side they took ages to release even RB 1 to the rest of the world we (Australia) still dont even have a release date for number 2 yet i was expecting the BS thing where they put it out against the new GH to make consequential profits
the only good thing in my mind about RB is the DLC if activision stopped making the Band specific games and released more DLC theyd rock but as it is if they release a band that ppl dont like well theres a bunch of songs that youll get no access to
i wouldnt care about paying for each song out of the past games so long as i had the option to get the specific ones i want
Kit Fowley @ Sep 2nd 2009 11:59PM
@dAnixx: If it was Grand Theft Auto: Rock Band then you ~would~ be stealing cars. (Hence the "Grand Theft Auto" bit. It means "Stole a f*cking car" in legaleeze.) If you're trying to insinuate that Rock Band is overly expensive in Australia I'm sure there's more articulate ways you could do it. Not to say I don't agree. I own Rock Band, love it, am getting Beatles:RB next week; but it is far too expensive anywhere but in the US.
Rocketboy @ Sep 3rd 2009 8:32AM
"You know, it's not entirely Activision's fault. Place the blame on Warner Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment too."
So I should buy a gimped game anyways?
I really don't care who's fault it is.
VaultBoy @ Sep 3rd 2009 3:55PM
Gimped? GH has better gameplay than RB. Deal with it. The track selection is the only thing that is lacking, but you KNOW that if you buy RB DLC with ANY regularity you know that it isn't difficult to spend 60 bucks every three months on downloaded songs so I don't see the huge difference that makes Acti the asshole here. Is it the fact that you don't want to spend it all at once? Is it that hard to remember what songs are on what disc? Would you realistically switch discs for each song? I doubt it. (Yeah, haha, RB you don't have to. I'm waiting for it.) It's not that big a deal to me.
Fane [A-MF Brigade] @ Sep 4th 2009 9:09PM
@VaultBoy
You are entitled to your opinion, however wrong it may be, but the majority agrees that Rock Band has better gameplay than ANY Guitar Hero, including the much-improved GH5. Deal with it.
Special Agent Steve @ Sep 2nd 2009 7:52PM
160 MS points. Sigh, I never get used to that system.
I guess it's too late for MS to change it anyways.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Sep 2nd 2009 8:06PM
its not too late but then how will they rape people for buying things on the Zune & Xbox Live Marketplaces?? I mean when you are left over with like 200 moon bucks then what do you do? BUY MORE!!
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Sep 2nd 2009 8:10PM
I prefer to call it "funny money".
Reuben @ Sep 2nd 2009 10:26PM
I love Sony for using actual money instead of having users convert.
alinos @ Sep 2nd 2009 11:53PM
and then when you have 70 moon bucks left for the 79 moon buck song whaddya do you buy 500 more its a diabolical plan
plus then the song that sells at the exact same price as the ITunes song looks cheaper as even tho there both 99c when one says 99c and the other says 79MSpoints which would you buy? (MS logic i stil see people who want to buy office 03 over 07 so maybs there right)
AvA (ice~) @ Sep 3rd 2009 8:58AM
y'know...after all my random purchases, I'm left with 33 FUCKING MICROSOFT POINTS! WHAT AM I GOING TO DO WITH 33 MOTHER FUCKING MOON BUCKS?! FUCK THE SYSTEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guitar hero, sucking all your money

Woz @ Sep 2nd 2009 9:21PM
At least they are sucking it away at half the pace. RB puts out at least twice as much DLC per week.
Tez @ Sep 14th 2009 3:27PM
And just sucking, in general.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Sep 2nd 2009 7:54PM
Does the DLC thats coming out now work for World Tour?
David @ Sep 2nd 2009 7:57PM
this week, i'm not 100% sure, but they've said that post GH5 DLC will not be compatible with GHWT. end of the line, guys!

Why do people still buy Guitar Hero again?
sony boy (6 years til sony man child!) @ Sep 2nd 2009 7:56PM

Pantsparty @ Sep 2nd 2009 7:56PM
I'm not sure whether to pick up Rock Band 2 or GH5... RB2 is looking like a better idea. I sure as hell don't want that Beatles crap though. I think the market Harmonix is losing with making a Beatles game is larger then the market they hope to acquire.
clif @ Sep 2nd 2009 8:53PM
/\ sounds like a well thought out statement. logic is a weapon you wield masterfully. good day sir, thanks for the enlightenment. i trust you will not be requiring of me the usual toll next time i cross your bridge.

Informed readers of Joystiq are on to this scam Activision has going, but I fear that most of the world has no clue what they are doing. Please make sure to tell your friends, family, and neighbors to stop supporting this franchise.
Alzheimers @ Sep 3rd 2009 8:32PM
Because GH5 comes free with the purchase of GH:Van Halen (which really is the only artist themed title I'd ever buy (unless they made a Dream Theater title (like that would ever happen (ha! (sob) ) ) ) )
Mr. Manly ESC Mcbeefington Ferguson The Second @ Sep 2nd 2009 7:55PM
One question are Rock Band Peripherals compatible with Guitar Hero 5? I have only played GH2 on the PS2 and 1 Ds game.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Sep 2nd 2009 8:05PM
I know RB2 was compatible with GH:WT and vice versa....I would imagine that the same maybe said for this as well
Mr. Manly ESC Mcbeefington Ferguson The Second @ Sep 2nd 2009 8:14PM
Thanks you Chris.
I would like to play GH5 after I get the Rock Band Beatles,so far it has some very solid reviews.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Sep 2nd 2009 8:31PM
no problem....if I'm not mistaken tho I believe ALL the instruments have to be compatible with each other games and all now....so the Beatles Rock Band and GH5 should carry this on
the_pop @ Sep 3rd 2009 9:02PM
All the Rock Band stuff works with Guitar Hero and vice versa. I have them on the 360 but I have no idea about the PS3.
Fane [A-MF Brigade] @ Sep 4th 2009 9:18PM
I THINK they finally have all this imcompatibility nonsense fixed on all three systems, but I wouldn't bet my life on it.
I only use Rock Band equipment (on PS3), so I can't speak from personal experience. GH:WT worked fine (aside from the note-charting--zing!), so I can't imagine GH5 wouldn't work. It is Activision, though.
sony boy (6 years til sony man child!) @ Sep 2nd 2009 7:56PM
why can't they just make all games compatible???
Deuce-MRP- @ Sep 2nd 2009 8:04PM
Because they want to keep making money. They cut it off at the release of each new game so that they FORCE you to buy the newest game just so you can get their newest DLC.
they're a bunch of money whores, quit playing Guitar Hero, it's shit.
Slyphon Filter @ Sep 2nd 2009 8:19PM
or maybe because they changed quite a few things? the gameplay changes from rock band 1 to rock band 2 weren't big at all (in a good way though). the gameplay changes from world tour to GH5 are pretty major.
Hafkie @ Sep 2nd 2009 10:34PM
No, quit using logic, Slyphon Filter.
It's because Activision is satan. Activision was behind 9/11. Activision joined the Axis powers during World War II. Activision killed your brother and raped your sister. Activision caused 99% of all gang violence in Los Angeles. Swine Flue, West Nile Virus, SARS, All Activision.
The apocalypse?
That's going to be Activision. The Mayans predicted it.
johnnynumber5 @ Sep 3rd 2009 2:09AM
Who the fuck is this Hafkie with his profile set to private defending Activision to the death? An employee? Guitar Hero fan? Activision Fan? Only he knows the truth.
How about a little bit of knowledge for everyone to get caught up to speed on things.
Lets see:
Guitar Hero 5
Guitar Hero Legends Of Rock
Guitar Hero World Tour
Guitar Hero 2
Guitar Hero Metallica
Guitar Hero Aerosmth
Guitar Hero Van Halen
Guitar Hero Smash Hits
Did I miss any games? Thats just this generation on the 360
Rock Band
Rock Band 2
Rock Band Beatles
Rock Band AC/DC Track pack
Rock Band Country Track Pack
Rock Band: Lego
Rock Band Metal Track Pack
Rock Band Classic Rock Track Pack
Rock Band Track Pack Volume 2
Did I miss any games? 360 as well.
The difference is that Rock Band is a platform with the ability carry all of your content over except for Rock band Beatles which is it's own game. Activision releases a new iteration of Guitar Hero once every financial quarter! The difference is that most of the Guitar hero shit doesn't play nice with each other and has to be played individually.
People should be thanking the heavens that Harmonix released Rock Band. Were it not for Rock band, Activision would have NEVER made their own band kit and platform.
It's just retarded. Do I like the Guitar Hero games? Yeah, if you only count World Tour and GH 5. Thats because I like playing the drums while my fiance shreds on the guitar =)
My problem is more with Activision than anything else. Look how they have watered down the quality of the Call Of Duty, Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk franchises. The funny thing is that EA has made Tony hawk irrelevant with Skate and offers an equal if not better product in Rock band when compared to Guitar Hero. If EA can come up with some big time FPS they might be able to give a technically better product than COD. I think they have the tool in place Crytek if it can adapt it to consoles.
Heh @ Sep 3rd 2009 2:30AM
"Who the fuck is this Hafkie with his profile set to private defending Activision to the death?"
Once upon a time, I remember you john posting and defending sony to the ground..all with a private profile ;D So you really have no ground on that matter.
But I do agree that Activision is doing to GH what they did to Tony Hawk. It's a shame.
False @ Sep 3rd 2009 4:49AM
"Look how they have watered down the quality of the Call Of Duty, Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk franchises."
Noooo, let's leave Call Of Duty out of this. They haven't had a bad game yet and even if you don't like the Treyarch titles (I personally don't), they at least added Nazi Zombies to the last game. There's no downturn in quality here.
