Actually I got confused about the release date and thought it came out this month. Then I checked Best Buy and their site showed they had it in stock, but it was still at pre-order status. I went to the store and they said they had it in back but couldn't sell it to me. I wonder why it got shipped out so early just to sit around...not like it's really a triple-A title.

I've never seen a development team hype up a light-gun rails shooter quite like this before.

I'd buy this, but it's on rails which limits it to a gamefly rental at best. Reeeeally wish they didn't do that.

What's wrong with on-rails? They said they're going for a more cinematic feel, and I agree that the way they've done it here is pretty effective. Let's face it: if you're trying to make someone feel like they're in another person's body, the walking mechanics in most FPSs (and the camera movement in games like Time Crisis) don't cut it. The movement of the camera felt very natural in this vid; you can tell they're putting a lot of time into that (perhaps motion cap'ing an actor's head movements as he acts out being in the scene?).

I just don't like those games. They were fine when my father took me to the arcade in 1995, but they're too linear, shallow, and have no replayability so I'll probably just rent it.

We certainly don't need whiners in every thread, but we get them anyway.
And yes, if enough people say it maybe developers will stop being lazy and taking a shortcut by making rail shooters instead of normal games.

I was thinking the same thing, but I guess it's to simulate all the stuff that's happening better. I mean, if it was free-roaming and stuff like water appearing out of nowhere occured, it would get really annoying soon.
I can see where you're coming from with your opinion, though.

Hey, I'm not ashamed to say I'm with tmac on this one. Well, not quite - I will probably buy it anyhow as long as it's long enough, by which I mean ~10 hours. If it's really short I'll skip it. (Beyond that I don't care about replay value; I never replay games except the very, very best and this isn't going to be one of those.)
It will probably be a good game even though it's on rails (just like RE: Umbrella Chronicles was). But yes the fact that it's on rails still smarts (just like RE: etc). And I know Dead Space was always designed as 'just like RE, but in space' but I wish they hadn't followed Capcom's Wii release decisions quite so closely...

Isn't that whining?
I'm actually interested to see how this turns out on rails. I like the genre and want to see if they can make it entertaining. Deciding between whether you'll have a gun in hand or if you want to actually have light to see what's coming at you is a dynamic I want to try out.
There has certainly been some evolution for the on rails shooter on the Wii. Resident Evil: UC was a big departure from the usual on rails shooter for just sheer length. Not the usual 3 to 4 hours. With multiple routes hidden in the game and episodes to unlock that added more to the backstory of the Resident Evil universe. HotD: Overkill went with style and made a great game that was fun to play again and again. So if it keeps going then I'm all for it. Lets see more.
And I'm pretty sure Chop til You Drop has frightened any developer away from trying to do the same thing on the Wii that they did on the other systems with a franchise. Sure it was a lazy graft onto a system that itself was originally ported from the GC but now there's that stigma. And from time to time you do hear people ask if a game is going to be another Chop. Because people asked it before it was announced that this was going to be on rails. And the endless fighting about the downgrade in graphics... the only way to get away from all of that is to switch genres really.
But if you still want to go with lazy... its EA, come on.

I know exactly how the gameplay is cause I literally just watched peices of it in the video they linked above. Unless you're blind, then you saw it too!

i keep hearing complaints "oh, it's on rails, it's not a real game, boo Wii..." but you know what? F**K that noise, this game looks awesome. i haven't been genuinely excited about a Wii game since... how long ago was Smash Bros?

don't get me wrong, i actually enjoyed all 3 of those games you mentioned that have released already (Madworld and Tiger 10 especially were great), and i'm interested, maybe even cautiously optimistic, about Red Steel 2 and Metroid. but as far as genuine, oh-my-god-I-cannotfreakinwait-to-play-it excited? nope. not til this one.

When this crappy Wii railshooter fails in sales like it's brethren all have. I hope it doesn't impact development of DeadSpace two for the real gaming systems(ps3, 360, pc).

All on-rails shooters need to use these kinds of scripted events. I played Time Crisis 3 at an arcade, and there was just a bunch of guys popping up, nothing that couldn't have been done better by free-roaming. Of course, that's just an arcade, how were the more recent HotD games?

HotD Overkill was actually extremely entertaining, with hilarious writing, deep-for-a-rail-shooter gunplay, and a well done grindhouse-movie style presentation. def. worth a rental. get a friend and check it out, it's pretty sweet.

Should have used the development money towards dead space 2 instead of this fail Wii on-rails shooter.

why can't we have both? what, exactly, makes this game "fail"? fine if you aren't into rail-shooters, but did you at least watch the videos? can you honestly say that doesn't look like fun at all? isn't it cool how your character in this is the one that created the barricade in medical? *sigh* why bother with you people...

You can't have both because having both implies moving resources away from one for the other. If this thing loses money it moves away resources from a sequel of a high ranking game this generation. *sigh* why bother with tards like you.

lol, ok, thanks for explaining how you think EA conducts business, that was very enlightening. if that's the case, your plan of action should be to hang out at your nearest game store and anytime you catch someone showing interest in DS Extraction, you should shout "OMG that game is FAIL and Wii is stupid baby toy for tards!", because you are obviously a very eloquent and motivational speaker. that'll get another Dead Space made in no time. enjoy a lifetime of downvoted comments.
