New downloadable Bonk, Bomberman found on Hudson's website [update]

NeoGAF user VideoMan discovered currently unannounced games on Hudson's website, including a multiplatform downloadable Bonk update, a Bomberman Live sequel, and a Wii/DS version of Big Fish Games' generically titled Rooms: The Main Building. Most of the pages have been removed, but Bonk is still up, and VideoMan saved the screenshots and product descriptions.

Bonk: Brink of Extinction is a WiiWare/PSN/Xbox Live Arcade 2.5D action platformer with online co-op (!) and eight different transformations. The 3D makeover the game has received is ... suboptimal, and the Adventure Island refresh wasn't great, but we can't help but be thrilled about the return of the Turbografx-16's mascot. It'll apparently be out first on XBLA in spring 2010.

Bomberman Live Battlefest is also coming to all three console download services, and adds new arenas, gametypes, and team play to, well, Bomberman. And Rooms: The Main Building seems to be a Wii/DS retail game, based on the PC slide-puzzle adventure.

We're contacting Hudson to learn what we can about the company's plans for these unannounced games.

Does anyone actually play bomberman anymore?

Absolutely. Even though the formula hasn't changed much in years, it's still a fun nostalgic game.

It's also one of the few XBLA games I own that I can play with my nephew/niece without worrying about too much gore/blood/violence.

Still bloody waiting on the PS3 Europe release of Ultra... Pah!

I too love me some Bomberman. One of the best party games out there.

My question is, having already purchased Bomberman Ultra, exactly what incentive am I supposed to have to pick up Battlefest? More maps and gametypes? On the contrary, I'm a bit peeved that they didn't roll these features into Ultra.

I do enjoy Bomberman, but it's stupid to keep buying more versions of what is a really basic game just for some new maps.

It's best on pc with 4 controllers and 5 people. You map the d-pads as normal, but have all the bomb buttons controlled by one person on the keyboard. Makes things interesting.

these video game companies should start bringing back all the old school classic's from a long time ago I would love to see a HD version 0f the Turbo Duo games hell yeah Especially LORDS OF THUNDER! Bonk etc..

Damn, I loved the bonk games on the TG16! What a great system that was.

I never played any of the Bonk games (or any other TG16 games for that matter) but was always curious... I guess I'll have to try these out next year...

I am begging Hudson for Star Soldier/Blazing Lazers and Neutopia remakes.

I grew up in England, and we had a game that looked very similar to Bonk called BC Kid. Is it the same thing? (Kinda like how Out of this World is called Another World in different countries)

Wikipedia says yes, they are one in the same.

I did a review of Rooms for an independent games site. It's very fun and a different take on the average puzzle title. Though I hope they fixed the animations a bit for the new version.

TurboGrafx 16 was a truly great system, plagued by price and the fact that the SNES and Genesis had the market locked down. Bonk and Adventure Island were both fantastic games that if released on SNES would have been huge IPs I think. Can't wait for these.

Oh, added note, first thing I thought of when I saw/played New Super Mario Bros was Bonk. The game mechanic of your character turning huge is awesome, and was one of the coolest things about both games.

They did put Bonk on the SNES, though it wasn't the original.

OMFG I love Bonk! This is great news, I would of never expected this game to come out on the XBLA.

Maybe someone can remake Tomba? that was one funny game

I saw Bomberman in the title and got all hopeful that you'd be talking about that Bomberman Battle 2 game or whatever it's called, where you can equip the different armor pieces and such. I really wish that would be localized.

I wish they'd make a new Bomberman with a decent single player mode. I've been playing Bomberman '93 and '94 on the Virtual Console and they're awesome.

Id definitely buy into some Bonk! Action!

That screenshot above looks pretty good to me. Am I missing something?

I'd guess the problem is with the overall color scheme. Doesn't quite fit.

It's not that far off though. The original Bonk had a quite a few levels that were dominated by green and brown. The main difference here is that the picture above seems to be level set at night, so the lighting is darker.

I just could never get into Bonk. I bought one of them for Virtual Console awhile back and just didn't really care for it. Maybe it's the type of thing you had to grow up playing ;)

In any case, Bomberman rocks, interested to hear what they have in store for that title. Bomberman Live was really one of the best Bomberman games in quite awhile, so more of that is always good.

What ever happened to story mode in Bomberman?

I enjoyed playing through CO-OP on the first SNES game.

I'm a sucker for Bonk games. They remind me of playing my TG16 when I was a kid. I'll buy it, reviews and graphics be darned!

I would love to see a remake of Caveman Games.

I still remember begging my mom to get it for my birthday, after seeing the commercial for it on television.

2.5D, huh? Boy, I can't wait to see how Hudson breaks the laws of physics and all dynamics to utilize only half of a dimension.

If it's 2D, then it's 2D. If it's 3D **EVEN IF IT'S ON A 2D PLANE**, then it's still 3D.
