The PlayStation.Blog has announced the release date for Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time. But wait -- isn't that, as commenters like to point out, old news? Thankfully, more can be gleamed from the box art included with the post.
In addition to touting the redesigned PS3 logo, the box art for A Crack in Time features the now-standard PlayStation Network banner on the back. The various PSN features include Trophies, PlayStation Home support, leaderboards and ... multiplayer? That's certainly new to us.
Unfortunately, a SCEA representative confirmed to us that the box art posted on the web was constructed from a template and that all information listed in the PSN banner is simply placeholder. That doesn't mean A Crack in Time won't have multiplayer -- but it means that this is far from the "omg confirmationz!!!!1" that many have been hoping for. Update: SCEA's Jefferson Dong puts it more directly: "There is no multiplayer."
[Thanks, tmacairjordan87]

we never talk about 'nut newz' anymore. the new boxart format isn't as shocking to me as i feared. it's staying the same size, unlike my collection of ps one games

The PlayStation Blog removed the back of the box art, wonder why?
Multi-player was supposed to be a surprise maybe?

@ Akronon
Sony would not give a damn about people complaining about there not being online multiplayer.
They WOULD care, however, if such information was leaked to the public when it might have been planned as new information at a later date.

Personally, I couldn't care less if it has multiplayer or not, I just decided to pass that along when I saw it.
I was going to wait and get this later, but after reading about the space exploration previews recently I'm getting it day 1.

Improved graphics, epic gameplay, *AND* multiplayer mode? Who do they think they are, Naughty Dog?
Seriously though, I'm about to get my hopes up. Perhaps they will have extra co-op missions similar to Uncharted 2. That would be pretty awesome.

Is it just me, or is this "revisioning" of the playstation 3 brand feeling like Sony is trying to really blend in with the market hoping to pick up sales? Don't get me wrong, I love me PS3, and i'm playing Arkham Asylum on it as we speak, but with all the logo changes and box redesigns, it just looks really odd to me.
When they introduced the little tab things on the side of the box, I liked that a lot. It had the same function that the little bubbles had on the 360 boxes, but it was easier to read and in an easier spot to find. But they at least made things look the same. Now, it's just odd to me.

I absolutely hate the new box art. I seriously don't know what their reason was for changing it.

I thought Up Your Arsenal's online multiplayer was a very cool premise for the series even if it didn't pan out too well in actual performance.
If R&C: A Crack in Time does have online multiplayer (campaign co-op?) then this will be my first R&C game for the PS3.

I can't even find a friend who owns a ps3 to play this with. (they all seem to be 360 fanboys) Even if I did I dont see myself wanting to play one of the best single player games on the market with other people. This makes no sense to me.
