The PSN remake of Spelunker is ready to explore the dark, cavernous recesses of your console when it makes its way to America, courtesy of Tozai. GamerBytes reports that the NES game has been updated with "new graphics, and a 6-player online cooperative mode." Spelunker HD can be played with both classic and updated graphics.
If you're curious about Spelunker HD, you can read through the game's Trophy list. Unlike most PSN games, the game includes a Platinum Trophy. Depending on how Tozai prices the US release, this may be one of the cheapest Platinums ever. But, if playing video games isn't "your thing" and you're still curious, check out the many, many YouTube videos on the game. Also ... does this post seem familiar?

Wish this game would come out, already... I've been lookin' forward to it for a while. Its pretty simple, in terms of gameplay, but you can't beat a good 2D platformer.

psn games get 21 points for trophies. bronze being 1 point, silver 2, gold 6 and plat 12. IE: fat princess had 21 trophies and all bronze (more points if add ons/expansions are available). so really psn games could have a plat, there just wont be many other trophies to accompany it.

I may be one of the few people that had this game on the NES. It was a gift for my 6th birthday, which is good because if I had actually paid for it with my own money, I might never have bought another game again. This piece of trash was a nightmare. It was awful. If only they had put as much effort into the design as they put into the music. It simply blows my mind that anyone would ever think of remaking this garbage. For over a decade, when people would ask me, "what's the worst g--" I would say "Spelunker" before they even finished their sentance. To paraphrase Roger Ebert's review of the movie North: "I Hated this game! Hated hated hated hated hated this game! Hated it!"
Also, karmatrom is right. look at the liked list of achievements; you get a trophy just for playing the game!
I'm sorry to bitchrant like this, but seriously; find a copy of this game (don't pay, though!) and play it just a little. 5 minutes. You will understand. You will die within 5 seconds; You will game over within 1 minute. You will try to skip the game over sequence, but the game won't let you. You WILL listen to the f--- you music!
Is there anyone out there who played the original Spelunker on the NES and is looking forward to this game? If so, for God's sake explain it to me.

agreed, I remember this being one of my first NES experiences as a kid and could never get passed the first ten or so seconds of the game.

Agreed. I bought this NES game at Children's Palace. (You know, the super toy store and a whole lot more) I returned it shortly after.

Because the NES version was crap. The original Atari 8-bit game was awesome hard! This was a game that kept you going and going trying to beat it.

looks like this might be anywhere from $20 - $25 seeing as it costs 2400JPY.
