We're not sure there's a great way to write this post without you beautiful monsters turning it into flamebait -- nay, a flamesteak. We're just going to chuck it into the pit and then walk away in slow motion while the animals devour it. If we do it right, it should be very Guy Ritchie. SquareTrade, which claims to be the largest independent warranty provider in the world, has presented data indicating that the Red Ring of Death has been on the decline since the introduction of the Jasper chipset in early 2009. The findings were based on 16,000 new consoles covered by the company.
Well, that's great news! We don't think we're forgetting anything.Nope, we're all set. Well, we guess the report did say that the Wii was nine times more reliable than the 360 and four times more reliable than the PS3, but we can't imagine that's of much interest to anyone. [begin slo-mo walking]

the problem is it's going to be a while before we see any remotely conclusive numbers for the Jaspers. i mean, we're still not quite exactly sure of the failure rate of the previous revisions. anyway, i really hope the Jasper board (which i think was confirmed to be in the new Elites), for the sake of consumers (any myself) is much more reliable. and remember, just because you've had a Jasper fail doesn't mean they're just as unreliable as previous revisions. you're just one person.
also, lol @ the article.

the problem is we dont have ANY real numbers, these stupid reports everyone talks about are not at all conducted in a fair way.
all of these omg 50% failure rates were conducted using samples that skew the results, if you have taken any philosophy or psy classes you will understand how to conduct a real survey, and realize how important the sample is.
yeah my 1st gen box died on me, but that was arfter 2 years of solid use in a room that got well over 100 degrees during the summer ... and i got a new one for free in 1 week and its still running like a champ, i have absolutely no complaints.

I always thought the RROD numbers were bullshit. The percentages always seemed way high, but now that I think about it all my friends, including me, are already on our 2nd Xbox. I guess it's true, or I just need more friends.

Are you suggesting that there isn't a problem and all this is some kind of urban myth?
I'm currently on my 7th Xbox 360, there is most definately a problem.

Don't worry those 12 360 owners will be joining the millions, if not thousands, of RRoDs. Some of those ticking time bombs take awhile to go off. Some people get lucky and some literally go through 360's like its going out of style.
But it's okay. Microsoft likes to stiff us with the bill because general hardware failures are fault of the gamer not the company, because if people are having problems it's evidentially neglect of the console.
How the fuck do you get away with charging gamers to have their console fixed because of their shitty design?
-Signed the unlucky idoit who has gone through 3 different xbox's.
(You think I would of learned by now)

Its not bullshit. My old roommate used to sit and try and tell me how awesome his ps3 is. When it was his only console.
Got a 360 for Christmas and 6 months later sold his ps3.
The dust was melted to it from the moisture and lack of use.

And it seems I have to eat my words! 1 of the 12 JUST txted me that his xbox won't stay on! He said "it either freezes or turns off after about 5 minutes of use."

If you take the 54.2% failure rate cited in a joystiq article a few days ago thats a whole 0.00852% chance that 12 randomly picked people wouldn't have a failure...so theres only a 99.991% chance he's full of bullshit.
Wait I'm not doing this right, mmmm flamesteak nom nom nom. Bullshit bullshit!!! Your experiences don't fit with mine so nothing you say can be true. Rabble rabble rabble.

5 yrs ago? On a console that isn't even 4 years old yet?

Yah, I had mine for almost three years before it red ringed. And I'm still on the 2nd one. And the first one was a launch console. I haven't had nearly as many problems as other people apparently. So yes, it's true, some people havent gone through 8 xboxs. Majority or minority, idk. I'm just saying you only hear about the xboxs that red ring.

The 360 is also played about three more times than the average Wii.
Of course the more worn shoe is likely to have a hole in it.
yeah...

I disagree, only because the average Wii owner doesn't own an Xbox 360.

Although I've played my 360 untold hundreds of hours (maybe thousands) since launch, I've had to go through 5 which is just inexcusable. I played my ps2 last gen just as much if not more, as it was my only system, and in 7 years I went through only 2 because of the disc read error.
Poor, rushed design is poor, rushed design no matter how you try to spin it.
