God of War Collection not hitting Europe this year
Hey, Europe. You're looking lovely today, has anyone told you that? Okay, quick like a band-aid: The PS3 God of War Collection won't make it to Europe this year. The collection includes the first two PS2 games in the series, updated with Trophies and 720p support.
Sony Europe's form response to VG24/7: "We are currently looking into options to bring God of War I and II to SCEE consumers on PS3; however it will not be possible to release the games this calendar year. We will provide further information in due course."
Here's a tip, though: The collection is unlikely to be region locked, so those in Europe who can't wait to experience Kratos' rage with all that extra "p" should probably check in with their favorite importers, or call up a Yank friend across the pond to sail a copy over.

That sucks for Europe! They should be able to enjoy this at the same time as us in the states.
Space @ Sep 3rd 2009 10:56AM
eh we don't get any good british shows like dark place, mighty boosh or snuff box over here...
redjack @ Sep 3rd 2009 12:16PM
Being Human has been pretty good.
dancingtosirens @ Sep 3rd 2009 1:49PM
@ Space
Actually, as far as I know, Adult Swim has The Mighty Boosh now.
Archon (PSN: Archonik, XBL: DarkARHN) @ Sep 3rd 2009 1:53PM
Yeah :/ Anybody knows any good US sites shipping worldwide? Play-asia does not ship this item to the UE...
bvhj @ Sep 3rd 2009 7:07PM
@space
I'm fairly sure Darkplace is (or was) on Adult Swim, too.
rruss79 @ Sep 3rd 2009 9:27AM
What's crazy is that Europe is more Sony loyal then I would say Japan or the US and still Sony treat them like the redhead stepchild
tmacairjordan87 @ Sep 3rd 2009 9:34AM
They're getting GT PSP for free when they buy a Go.
Of course, the downside is....they have to buy a Go, but you get the picture.
useedems @ Sep 9th 2009 8:32PM
Sucks to have 50 different languages and 100 different certification processes due to each country having their own regulations on media. The Germans don't even get most FPS games thanks to their rating system. I guess it's the "oh noes don't encourage them, they'll become violent neo-nazis" legislation.
I'm not sure what part of Union the EU didn't get, but you'd think they'd want to homogenize censorship and standards laws so things like this are easier to do.
Snowblind @ Sep 3rd 2009 9:51AM
@Tmac
Yeah, the Go is £225. For that price you can get a 3000 with a free game, and still buy five or six other games.
I'm actually pretty tempted to get that new Dissidia bundle. (that no sites seem to have reported on)
SpiderMike @ Sep 3rd 2009 10:27AM
We're NOT getting GT PSP for free. Its free to the first 10,000 that register their PSP with Sony, so if you're unfortunate/stupid enough to pay £225 on release, THEN you MIGHT be lucky enough to get a free sopy upon registration.
Space @ Sep 3rd 2009 12:33PM
@snowblind
size is important is important in handhelds.
people buy 16gb ipod nanos for $200 even though they can buy a 120gb ipod for $250....because it's smaller. The same thing is happening here...spend more money for less but you get more portability. plus if you want 16gb on a psp3000 you have to spend like $45 more.
I have a feeling all of the people complaining don't actually travel when they play their psp and instead just sit on their couch.
Space @ Sep 3rd 2009 12:36PM
I suppose it's not the same exact thing but you know what I mean. people like small handhelds.
sgtZipper @ Sep 3rd 2009 1:08PM
Yeah, it sucks, never got to play the first 2, when it was announced I was pretty happy, but now... geez we even pay more for our games in comparison and this is how they thank us... THANK YOU sony
draco @ Sep 3rd 2009 9:34AM
Well, GOW 1 and 2 did have that famed p, its the resolution jump that is going to make a difference.
I have the bc ps3 and I gotta tell you, the game looks just as good at 480P as 1080P scaling. (if you choose 480p in game thats what is displayed, scaler doesnt work with it)
Jake @ Sep 3rd 2009 4:42PM
i don't think it's that they are doing
i think it's like what they've done to ghostbusters, adding more pixels and what not to make it look better
and on the note of how we are treated in europe, its a fucking joke, I'm from the UK and just because there are 50 other countries needing different launguage doesn't mean us in the UK should suffer!!!! just give us the american version in pal form you idiots!!
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Sep 3rd 2009 9:38AM
damn.....my guess would be that they will work it in with GoW3 some how...release it in February maybe or just put it in the $90 CE
The Baron @ Sep 3rd 2009 10:44PM
That would be a very smart move. After all, if you're paying £40 for GoW3, why not pay another fifteen quid or so for all three of them in one box, in HD and with trophies?
Kalenn @ Sep 3rd 2009 9:38AM
Why deal with the yanks? Just get one of us colonists to send it across.
The Baron @ Sep 3rd 2009 12:26PM
I'll trade it for half a pound of tea, guv!
Bubbameister33 @ Sep 3rd 2009 9:40AM
I don't want to buy this and they come out with the God of War Trilogy Collection.
Dannybuoy @ Sep 3rd 2009 9:42AM
How hard can it be to make some extra copies and ship them over here? Unless we get them as a download from PSN over here? Ooohh, wishful thinking ;-)
Michael @ Sep 3rd 2009 9:44AM
Hey, look at that, the EU region getting something later than everyone elth. *yawn*
Lookhappy @ Sep 3rd 2009 9:44AM
I'm gonna hunt down and rape the lord of european sony games releases!!!!!
Curse you!
Import it is!

I reserved it at Gamestop yesterday.
Phizzy @ Sep 3rd 2009 9:56AM
I don't get this 720p thing. If they're just using all the PS2 assets, they shouldn't have any problem rendering them in 1080p.
Mr_Ahh @ Sep 3rd 2009 10:16AM
to render it in 1080p you would have to redo all the textures. the game was originally done in 720p then scaled down for the ps2.
SolidSnakeX @ Sep 3rd 2009 10:21AM
Good Europe already has there stuff there finally getting Dj Clubs and a Video store!.. I really don't like the way Sony is handling the updates for 2009 there all slackers!! We still never got probably will never because there so damn picky about what they will give us to use on the PS3!--> IN GAME MUSIC AND CROSS IN GAME CHAT! Seriously thinking of getting rid of my PS3 if I don't see these updates soon..The 360 has had these features since day 1...So whats your excuse now Sony!
Space @ Sep 3rd 2009 12:39PM
I can't believe people are still complaining about cross game voice chat and music....pay attention to the fucking game you are playing, people put a lot of effort into it and they deserve your attention. listen to your jonas brothers CD another time.
tobz1000 @ Sep 3rd 2009 10:15AM
Why. I honestly cannot fathom.
Nikos @ Sep 3rd 2009 10:16AM
@Phizzy
I think it's a software emulation. Software emulation is slow...
Phizzy @ Sep 3rd 2009 11:17AM
It would be very unwise to software emulate PS2 games for a re-release when it's running through PS3 hardware on a BD... It would be much simpler for them to just port the code.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Sep 3rd 2009 12:30PM
It's almost certainly not emulation. My friend at Sony told me they had the GoW engine running native on the PS3 within 3 months of GoW2's release. Polishing that up to run the GoW2 levels can't have taken much more work.
Redoing art, now that would take a while. Which is why I wonder if they really did so. For $20 per game, I kinda think not.
Jack_Jackington @ Sep 3rd 2009 1:11PM

I hate how this always happens to all euro countries and specially the UK, where it should be ported there first as it's the biggest gaming Market in Europe and both USA and the UK speak English so there no language problems!!!! This is almost as bad as littlebigplanet that was made in the UK, but came out in the US first, ITS OUR GAME!!!!!
prodigy69 @ Sep 3rd 2009 10:43AM
I blame those cheese eating surrender monkeys!!
Snowblind @ Sep 3rd 2009 10:44AM
Easy enough to import, but still seems like an odd move. I thought the idea was to get this out before the third game.
Zero @ Sep 3rd 2009 10:48AM
Thats annoying. I always wanted a reason to try God of War. Oh well.
marktaz @ Sep 3rd 2009 10:51AM
So then where do I import from? Play-asia will not ship to the EU..
Anyone have a Gaming shop that exports??
As alway sucks.. Make me feel unloved by Sony as and already said the UK is probably Sonys biggest market out side of Japan and already speaking English.
SCEE is just lazy and weak, why can't we have a unified Sony.

Since when does 2 of something count as a collection...
Phizzy @ Sep 3rd 2009 11:15AM
That's actually nonsense, Ahh. Neither of the games were designed for 720p and downscaled for PS2, despite a rumour saying the original version of God of War 2 would be playable in 720p on PS3. They were always designed for SD display on the PS2. If they choose to rework the games for this collection in either 720p or 1080p, they'll have to do the same amount of work. 2D UI elements will be the main problem. Look at Tekken 5: DR on PS3. It's basically a PSP game being rendered in 1080p. Minimal work was done. That's what I expect of this release, really.
