Ubisoft is shelling out another Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game this year with
TMNT: Arcade Attack for DS. As the name implies, the game will feature the arcade-style, beat-em-up gameplay most recently seen in
Turtles in Time, but this will be an all-new game. Players take on Shredder (who else?), along with his bebop and rock steady rogue's gallery of baddies, with a friend through local wireless -- or let a turtle-controlling AI buddy help out.
If the game's title sounds familiar, it's probably because we heard some rumblings about it
a week ago. Those attending
PAX can play the game in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Party Bus, located at the convention's entrance. Drop us a line in the comments if you happen to try it out.

Sounds like the perfect game ... to rent.
No but seriously I really liked the old TMNT beat-em-ups. And I also really like renting games. I'm excited!

Local play with one cartridge would be awesome! I love that feature on the DS.
I need to find a list of games with that option :P

NOTHING will ever come close to turtles in time.
Even the "remake" on XBLA couldn't make me me forget my favorite turtles game.
Also, they changed all the voices and the music! I want my original "My toes, My toes!"

Everything is made better with the inclusion of Ninja Turtles.

Great, I can't wait. Another stinkpile.
Fernando Rocker @ Sep 3rd 2009 2:07PM
Sorry, but TMNT are awesome. I bet you are like 17, right?
neoalec @ Sep 3rd 2009 2:15PM
I'm 29, loved TMNT as a kid, and own the original arcade boards for both arcade games. I thought the recent remake on XBL was a travesty, and have no reason to expect better from this DS game. Sorry for the double post.

Just what we need... I'm sure this will be great...

I love TMNT... I used to watch the animated series all the time, and the arcade and NES games were great... a lot of fun to play with friends.
Turtles in Times is amazing... I even liked the SNES version more than the Arcade version (more stages and stuff), plus, I was able to play at my house with my brother, cousins and school friends.
But... I didn't like the remake, and altought I probably will buy this new DS game, I think they should do TMNT in 2D, with only sprites.
Turtles in Time for the 360 didn't have the charm as the original one, and it was mainly because the graphical style used. I think a 2D game with high quality sprites would have been a better choice... same with this DS game: they should have used sprites, instead of 3D models. Just look how pretty does Yoshi's Island DS, Super Princess Peach, Kirby games, Starfy and many look.

I couldn't agree more, but I get the feeling the people in charge of those kinds of decisions can't really appreciate that. Try telling a higher-up- executive "So, we have to technology to render a fully 3D model on a 2D plane, but we're thinking of using 2nd generation spriting. It has a certain nostalgia that we think will work better." See, what he heard was "We're going to make it look bad on purpose, because we're old and we like old games."
BPMOmega [GT,Steam] @ Sep 3rd 2009 2:32PM
I think the 3D visuals for this look fine... However, I too, would like some 2D goodness.
Drakkenfyre @ Sep 3rd 2009 2:42PM
Bebop and Rocksteady are characters, and their names should be properly capitalized.
Unless you were going for pun.
acefondu @ Sep 3rd 2009 3:16PM
This game is in 3D, it's not on a 2D plane....So we're back to the PS2/Gamecube TMNT games. That was fast.
EMaster @ Sep 3rd 2009 3:17PM
*raising eyebrows* I'm listening.
zsabreuser @ Sep 3rd 2009 5:39PM
Fucking amazing!
The game mechanics looks like a blast! Reminds me of a mix of classic TMNT and Legend of Mana, from psx.
ENSICKENING!!!
Paul @ Sep 4th 2009 8:10AM
They weren't able to make a good sidescroller when they made those GBA side-scrollers based on the newer cartoon; their PS2-era console games were all offensively bad; they ruined Turtles in Time...I want to be excited, but it's kind of hard to be.

Why am I grayed out? I explained myself. You guys LIKE these new turtles games? I mean, I buy them all, loyal as I am, but I am pissed, especially by the recent remake. I lose more respect for the commenters here every time I post. : (

It seems like the screens in the gallery show two different build versions. The HUD differences between the two "throwing" enemy screens includes a different power bar, fonts, screen character profiles, rating system, and better graphics. I actually prefer the health bar in the older build but like everything else from the newer builds. The health bar was more like the turtles "ooze container" in the earlier builds. You can also notice a big improvement in the graphics from the earlier build as well.
I can't wait for this game and I prefer the 3D style. I'd also love to see a sequel to this game which ties-in with the upcoming live-action movie currently in production. I wish they would release a 2D port of the recent "Turtles in Time" port from the 360 so we could have even more Turtle Mania! "Turtle Power!"
