- Blur looks like an awesome combination of the slick street racing of Fast and Furious with the unpredictability of Mario Kart-style power ups -- all bathed in gratuitous neon light.
- While really exciting, it's still only our second-favorite Blur-related video of the day.
- The sound of British people talking makes cars look faster. We have no explanation for this.
Blur trailer is powered up

For a moment I thought "The Stig" was gonna appear. lolz
So they borrowed the power up upgrades from Diddy Kong Racing too. Nice. Looks great. I respect Gran Turismo but arcade style racing like Initial D is much better. To each its own. :)

I hope this is nothing like Wipeout.
I love Mario Kart games and the F-Zero games, but for some reason I didn't like Wipeout HD at all (it was my first, an will be my only, Wipeout game).
Until now this game hasn't interested me at all simply because the power-ups don't seem too cool (kart racers have more interesting power-ups, more varied and wackier), but this trailer has me somewhat interested.

i loved the pgr franchise a lot, and i have all games from 1-4, i wonder if bizzare would carry their know how from those to this game... i dont know. first of all pgr was always meant by microsoft as more of a technical experiment than it was a real game, it was meant to push the limits and introduce new features of the console itself in a fun and powerful way, and most of the time, they delivered. but seeing as though how this game is published by activision, and other than being a kart racer, it doesnt really bring anything new to the table. (pgr 4 did bikes, an amazing career mode, lovely inside views, one of the best multiplayers ive seen and other such things)
i may be wrong, and i hope i am, because finally, i know ill be picking up this game to pay my resepcts and well, i think that all i really need to say is THEY'RE TALKING WITH ACCENTS

looks ok.. but all these blur trailers say the same thing.. what about career mode? What's gonna keep me playing this game for 10 or more hours? So far it's lookin like a rental or $20 used game purchase.

I gather that's it's not going to focus on career mode, like NFS (which has the worst multiplayer I've ever tried to use). The idea is to have friends that you'll play it with, like, socially or something.

this game is gonna sell so poorly. im not saying its bad but it seems to be marketing to a niche audience.

These developers sound far too excited about these utterly ordinary "power-ups". Have they played any other games in the past? Boost, mines, missles, proximity field, and "barge" have all been done before, many many times over in the past. I don't know about these dudes, but they are going to have to get more creative than that for a game released in 2009.
The Wipeout series had all these generic and un-inventive weapons in 1995.
They are obviously trying to combine the hip-factor of underground street racing (which if you ask me, isn't even that cool anymore) with the unpredictability of weapons integration seen in mario kart. Among the many issues I have already, the problem the weapons is it places more emphasis on weapons than actual skill. You can be the best mario Kart player on the planet, but the moment a n00b grabs a blue shell, its over. That's not racing. That's giving unexperianced players a leg up at the cost of any actual value as a game that calls for ability.
Mario Kart works because it doesn't take itself too seriously.... and because its made for kids, stoners, and people who don't play video games. This on the other hand wants to grab the market segment where those people meet the experianced players, but Its a shame because its only going to bastardize both demographic's experiences.

I think your approaching this game the wrong way. The angle here is to have a PGR style racer, with real cars and (relatively) realistic physics with power ups. It's about combining the madness and exhiliration of games like Mario Kart and WipeOut with actual racing. Granted, there is no indication as yet that this is a winning combination, but to write the game of as a failed WipeOut clone is missing the mark a bit.
For me, PGR has been the best racing series since I've played Metropolis Street Racer on the Dreamcast, so I'm willing to give these people the benefit of doubt for now.

Cool seems like Wipeout but with real cars. What it seems to be missing is Burnout style damage on cars. Everyone complains about Gran Turismo's lack of damage (although they finally will include it) but after all those explosions it looks weird to see only cracked windows and windshields. I want to see doors flying out of cars. I want the cars to look like living corpses after a long race. I think that would make the game more fun.

The problem is using actual cars from real car companies. Said companies don't want their cars to be smashed up, because the programming for damage isn't car specific, and they don't want their cars to break the same way that all the other cars do, because they don't in real life, and that distinction is important. So the choice given is either perfect damage representation or nothing.
