Sometimes, we want to show you the behind-the-scenes action at Joystiq HQ. Here are a few excerpts from when we first uncovered the live-action Halo 3 ODST commercial:
JC Fletcher: "Wow, glad I'm not in the ODST"
Andrew Yoon: "Holy **** @ ODST"
Randy Nelson "Awesome"
You too can marvel in its splendor after the break. And when you do, you're likely to agree with Ludwig Kietzmann: "Where's mah Halo moviez?"
[Thanks, Zach!]
If this whet your appetite for more, you'll be able to catch an extended version on Spike TV on September 7th during "Band of Brothers." You'll also be able to download it off of Xbox Live on September 8th, so you can rewatch it over and over again.
I believe if you look up the article Zoot is possibly referencing, where everyone typed in caps and yelling, you'll find the most hearts on joystiq...EVER!! ;] good times
Oh Boy!! A completely generic action sci-fi war movie template, but it's got a LICENSE attached!! I'm no better than the retards who buy every movie licensed games!!
At least come up with a decent arguement, instead of throwing out buzzwords like "generic". I'm sure you could have squeezed in "fanboys" and "overrated" there too.
If this is any indication of how much they could do with just a short time and limited budget, I can't wait to see what a full scale movie would be like.
Also, if you consider the story in Halo a "generic action sci-fi war" then why comment on this article? The story of the movie would likely revolve around the story of the game or the books.
They're all regular words used by people in everyday life. However, you're using it without any context or thought behind it, purely to try and annoy people when you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.
It tends to just be thrown out whenever someone wants to insult something, without bothering to come up actual reasoning. As you have just proved.
Oh, golly, really?? I couldn't tell! The majority must obviously be correct then. Thank you Peter Moore for really setting me straight fixing my worldview. God speed.
I thought it was funny. I'm not a huge halo fan, but I wouldn't mind seeing a movie.
I used to live in wellington, you know... where Peter Jackson has his empire. anyhow I went to the Weta Cave once and they showed this video, and for a few seconds they show all sorts stuff that looks like it's from Halo. People driving around in warthogs carrying all the weapons. It looked pretty neat, very gritty...I wouldn't mind seeing something like that...like band of brothers perhaps. I imagine it was stuff made for that live action commercial a while back and some stuff they made early on before the movie got shelved. A movie could be cool if some one like Jackson made it. it all depends on who writes it too.
"you rediculous nerd" "you idiots are going to lap this up"
You obviously think that by belittling the majority of an internet thread who can appreciate a good commercial, you feel vastly feel superior to them just because they enjoy a "dumb trailer."
Well, even though your trolling...It's not that it's art, which no one has made that case yet besides you, it's how well it's presented. Whoever directed this had a good sense of what they were doing to create something this well presented. The commercial has done it's job, which is to draw interest. Of course, the game has the HALO name attached to it, so it will sell like hot cakes. Side note, I don't have a 360, and the multi-player is all that interests me in HALO.
What is wrong with generic action sci-fi movies? If it's well constructed, it can be enjoyable. If it's not, it's MST3K worthy. HALO has enough of a "history" to it that a real story could be constructed. If Neill Blomkamp did direct a HALO film, I would probably see it. I would be more inclined to do so now after District 9, despite all of District 9's narrative faults. I would like to know what your definition of art is actually. If you weren't a) a troll and b) on some kind of high horse, then you would know that this does actually fall into the category of art. I'll just assume you go by whatever Google threw up at you first. Well, I've officially wasted a few minutes of my life that I can never get back. Good job, sir. Good job.
If you don't like Halo, you can still appreciate the "mood" and "feeling" that the commercial portrayed.
If you can't, then that means you are sociopath and will probably bring a gun into work one day and shoot everyone because you have no empathy and human emotion. Have fun burning in hell, fuckface.
Profile of the Sociopath
Glibness and Superficial Charm
Manipulative and Conning They never recognize the rights of others and see their self-serving behaviors as permissible. They appear to be charming, yet are covertly hostile and domineering, seeing their victim as merely an instrument to be used. They may dominate and humiliate their victims.
Grandiose Sense of Self Feels entitled to certain things as "their right."
Pathological Lying Has no problem lying coolly and easily and it is almost impossible for them to be truthful on a consistent basis. Can create, and get caught up in, a complex belief about their own powers and abilities. Extremely convincing and even able to pass lie detector tests.
Lack of Remorse, Shame or Guilt A deep seated rage, which is split off and repressed, is at their core. Does not see others around them as people, but only as targets and opportunities. Instead of friends, they have victims and accomplices who end up as victims. The end always justifies the means and they let nothing stand in their way.
Shallow Emotions When they show what seems to be warmth, joy, love and compassion it is more feigned than experienced and serves an ulterior motive. Outraged by insignificant matters, yet remaining unmoved and cold by what would upset a normal person. Since they are not genuine, neither are their promises.
Incapacity for Love
Need for Stimulation Living on the edge. Verbal outbursts and physical punishments are normal. Promiscuity and gambling are common.
Callousness/Lack of Empathy Unable to empathize with the pain of their victims, having only contempt for others' feelings of distress and readily taking advantage of them.
Poor Behavioral Controls/Impulsive Nature Rage and abuse, alternating with small expressions of love and approval produce an addictive cycle for abuser and abused, as well as creating hopelessness in the victim. Believe they are all-powerful, all-knowing, entitled to every wish, no sense of personal boundaries, no concern for their impact on others.
Early Behavior Problems/Juvenile Delinquency Usually has a history of behavioral and academic difficulties, yet "gets by" by conning others. Problems in making and keeping friends; aberrant behaviors such as cruelty to people or animals, stealing, etc.
Irresponsibility/Unreliability Not concerned about wrecking others' lives and dreams. Oblivious or indifferent to the devastation they cause. Does not accept blame themselves, but blames others, even for acts they obviously committed.
Promiscuous Sexual Behavior/Infidelity Promiscuity, child sexual abuse, rape and sexual acting out of all sorts.
Lack of Realistic Life Plan/Parasitic Lifestyle Tends to move around a lot or makes all encompassing promises for the future, poor work ethic but exploits others effectively.
Criminal or Entrepreneurial Versatility Changes their image as needed to avoid prosecution. Changes life story readily.
seriously ,his biggest complaint creatively with it was that Master Chief would be the most important supporting character, but they've shown with landfall and this thing as well as the old Believe commercials that it doesnt really matter, cause that would work perfectly. They dont even have to make the film a direct continuation of the games featuring master chief, it could just be the story of an ODST or marine and be just as great.
As a Halo fan, I could nitpick about a few of the inaccuracies there. But it was still very awesome :) Wish Peter Jackson and Bloomkamp got the chance to do the movie, it would have been epic.
