Left 4 Dead 2 sends in the Zombie Clowns

Click 4 larger image
Oh, hey, speaking of zombie-induced fright, here's the latest new enemy to be revealed: the Zombie Clown. How does he keep his makeup so even? Other new reveals include the "Jockey" boss Infected, who can take control of Survivors' movement, presumably in a concerted effort to get everyone to run away from the Zombie Clown.

Totally justifies paying for a retail copy.
O wait, no it doesn't.

@ SpyderTaco
You bought L4D1 at retail price didn't you? It's a perfectly legit sequel. Adding new mechanics, new enemies, better graphics, better story, new weapons.
I don't see why people still consider this just an expansion. At first, it seemed like it would, but with all they've shown us (not just zombie clowns) I definitely feel safe to say that Valve has made some great additions.
Why buy Uncharted 2 if you've got Uncharted 1?
Because they added plenty of stuff.
DDANK818 @ Sep 4th 2009 3:37PM
Apperently the clown is the opposite of the boomer, causing zombies to hord around himself on command.
whylekat @ Sep 4th 2009 3:48PM
Is that a joke?
I don't get it...
The Dark Wayne @ Sep 4th 2009 4:32PM
if it wasnt that isnt true, the clown doesnt have any special powers he's just a regular infected in the same manner as the doctor, nurse and patient zombies in the hospital level.
Obie @ Sep 4th 2009 4:35PM
Actually he is "an uncommon common", like the mudmen in Swamp Fever and the SWAT zombies...he is not a boss zombie...but does stick out of the crowd.
I did read an article that he attracts other zombies, like a car alarm, but I'm not certain how.
DDANK818 @ Sep 4th 2009 5:01PM

The clown has squeaky shoes. That attracts the zombies. But not really.
Einhanderkiller @ Sep 4th 2009 7:15PM
The clown calls zombies over. With his voice.
"Yo, get over here zomdog."
"Aight, broclown."
Yeah.
Don't do drugs, kids.

Zombies Ate My Neighbors is the game to beat. L4D2 might do that.

L4D beats Zombies Ate My Neighbours, hands down.
ZAMN was good, but not that good.

are zombie games even original anymore? its like they tell zombie fanboys what they want and give it to them... if thats the case everyone would also include a iPod with metal songs preloaded on it

Like prejudging other people much?
Saria the Cat @ Sep 4th 2009 7:44PM
"It's like they're listening to the fans...and giving them what they want!"
Um, and this is a bad thing WHY? Don't we want developers to pay attention to what the consumer most interested in their game wants? Most of the time, people complain about the opposite, that developers never pay attention to what the true fans want (case in point: Zelda franchise).
SpaceFox @ Sep 4th 2009 3:48PM
I NEED a 360 now.
No not really. But this game does look awesome.

zombies and clowns are the worst possible things you can mix. not including coffee and orange juice though, because that shit is nasty.
Zoot Suit Jedi @ Sep 4th 2009 4:11PM
Taking creepy to new heights.
reguy @ Sep 4th 2009 4:23PM
Dont you mean clown zombie? Zombie clown would mean a zombie that has made a decision to become a clown. Clown zombie means a person who was a clown and is now a zombie
dark_inchworm (stronger than never, ever before) @ Sep 4th 2009 4:28PM
What's the difference between a slutty whore and a whorish slut? To me, nothing.
*shrug*
Saria the Cat @ Sep 4th 2009 4:52PM
Actually a "clown zombie" sounds more like a zombie trying out being a clown to me. I also polled a friend and they said the same thing. I think it's a matter of perspective. Are you a native English speaker?
I also think "zombie postal worker" sounds better than "postal worker zombie." I think because we equate "zombie" with "undead," and you wouldn't say "mailman undead," you'd say "undead mailman." I think affiliation/identity comes before position and modifies it. Like, you would say "He's a Mexican driver," not "He's a driver Mexican."
reguy @ Sep 4th 2009 5:14PM
@ saria
lets say that instead of a clown, it was a pirate.
would you still say zombie pirate? Or would you say pirate ghost err I mean pirate zombie
Saria the Cat @ Sep 4th 2009 7:33PM
I would say zombie pirate. If it was a ghost, I would say a ghost pirate I think. This stuff is pretty interesting, and I am sure there are linguistic English noun modifier rules for this kind of thing. It's kind of like the placement of "always."
I always eat breakfast before class.
I eat breakfast always before class.
I eat breakfast before class always.
I think the top one sounds better but I always wind up using it in the second way, just because my English gets garbled.
Zoot Suit Jedi @ Sep 4th 2009 8:26PM
in zombie clown, zombie would be an adjective of the type of clown, or a clown that became zombie.
in clown zombie, clown is the adjective, indicating a zombie had the wherewithal to become clown.
at the end of the day though, both are terrifying.
Zoot Suit Jedi @ Sep 4th 2009 8:27PM
And always eat breakfast before class. Always.
Saria the Cat @ Sep 4th 2009 4:39PM
Oh man, these campaign themes are awesome! Way more fun than the usual concrete jungle urban setting.
...And this clown makes me think that the new L4D will actually scare me a little.
cloud858rk @ Sep 4th 2009 4:46PM
Just need a campaign in North Korea!
Wait that's Crysis.
mgsrocks1 @ Sep 4th 2009 6:27PM
Scare you? Talk about the nightmares I'm gonna have. Zombie Clowns are going to take over the world! Mark my word!
clanboru15 @ Sep 4th 2009 4:46PM
I was hoping ( i know it won't happen) that maybe they would do something like CoD5 zombie mode where you have to hold out until you can't anymore. I know there is survival mode but it just doesn't feel the same at all. Maybe it's the mass amount of variety in weapons that makes it better in CoD. I just really like the money system to buy weapons instead of picking up 1 of 4 weapons...
Minecart @ Sep 5th 2009 12:46AM
You mean you don't like L4D zombie survival because it relies more on pure skill and team tactics than how many of the good guns and what cheap tricks you can use, than yeah, L4D doesn't have that kind of semi-RPG element to it. But that's cool, CoD certainly doesn't have L4D's kind of versus modes or well developed team co-op.
I mean, I'm pretty sure Valve IS putting more weapons on the game, so it effectively WILL be like a "money system" to buy guns, but rather how many zombies you kill in a static location, it will be how far your progress in the many-and-varied levels till you earn new guns. but a money system wouldn't work with L4D versus anyway, not with the "rush to the safe point to survive, because the odds are heavily AGAINST the human survivors" mentality the game has. rather than typical Call of Duty multiplayer: camping. that's why call of duty has its money system style - L4D is a totally different game.
vgxtremist @ Sep 4th 2009 5:32PM
It's getting harder to stay mad at Valve for releasing this sequel...

ZOMG ZOMBI BBQ WTF.
Also, the clown's name is "Happy".
He's a humanitarian by the way.
ColorblindMonk @ Sep 4th 2009 6:52PM
Look at the first picture in the gallery. What is that? A hunter?
Ugkul @ Sep 4th 2009 6:57PM
Zombie Clowns were already in House of the Dead: Overkill. So... meh.
clanboru15 @ Sep 5th 2009 12:08PM
Skill? I don't think that L4D requires skill, just being attentive to what is going on with other teammates. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love L4D.
What cheap tricks are in CoD? Half the games im in people do the exact same thing, for both L4D and Zombie mode. I don't see how its any different. Both games break up the monotony of large groups of zombies with some sort of boss, be it dogs or tank, it's just that the CoD zombies are actually difficult, not just things that stand in the way of the next tank. The odds are against them in both games. You CAN'T win. Thats the point. I just feel as if the zombie mode is more amusing in CoD because you can upgrade all sorts of things and you don't have this unlimited ammo feel to it.
L4D and CoD have very different multiplayer modes, im not arguing with that.
