PAX 2009: Blur gets Twitter support

Bizarre Creation's arcade-style racer, Blur, has received a nitrous-level boost of social networking. Initially, the social component of the game was limited to mock text messages and emails sent from AI racers in the game, who you build love/hate relationships with over the course of your races against each other. Additionally, Blur features faux social networking sites like "Inner Tube" (a Bizarre version of YouTube). Today, real Twitter support has been confirmed for the game, although current details can be summed up in less than 140 characters.
Here we go: Twitter apparently working in both 360 and PS3 versions of Blur. Update example: "I just won 1st place at Hackney!" etc.
So, will we be tweeting from our existing accounts? Is the Xbox 360 version's integration independent of the Xbox Live partnership? Can we see tweeted replies in-game? Can we post Twitpics of our victories? Will the Fail Whale be drivable? We want answers -- and we shall get them!

Interesting. A social network integrated video game. I'd like to see how this pans out.
Platinum_Skeet @ Sep 4th 2009 1:09PM
I think it would be cool if you could keep track of clans through a social networking site. Stats and video's of previous matches constantly updated through a subscribed site would save a lot of Clans having to host their own site...

Microsoft is going to flex its muscles within the next day or two. It wont suprise me if PS3 twitter support is pulled.
But tbh its twitter at the end of the day. Big woop.
deanb @ Sep 4th 2009 1:45PM
Why would PS3 Twitter support get pulled?
You think 360 has some exclusive rights over twitter on console.
Ha!
PS3 has had Twitter support since day one.
PR0F3TA (PSN - PROPHETA) @ Sep 4th 2009 2:34PM
"flex its muscles"??
fanboys sound more like fucking retards everyday. there are dozens of twitter apps for iPhone, why doesn't Twitter pull support for Mac if Microsoft has a huge peen with them.
what i like most though is how you make up for paying fifty dollars a year with an integrated shitty networking app. What about games?!
Rhamsey @ Sep 4th 2009 1:05PM
I hate twitter.

I just want facebook to add an "unlike" button like they have the "like" one....so when someone plays a garbage ass game I can just click "unlike"
Parker @ Sep 4th 2009 3:57PM

Michael T @ Sep 4th 2009 1:08PM
"Blurt" might be the most awesomely appropriate description of what Twitter was designed to do.
Aaron J @ Sep 4th 2009 1:34PM
Websites like raptr.com already do stuff like that to both Twitter and Facebook for all your games...
Unnecessary imo.
dark_inchworm (stronger than never, ever before) @ Sep 4th 2009 1:37PM
Twitter is unnecessary, IMO.
It has a few - and I do mean few - advantages over the likes of Myspace and Facebook, but ultimately it's a stripped-down Facebook to me.
HardBoiled2009 @ Sep 4th 2009 2:02PM
IMO Twitter And Facebook on 360 ? big Hairy Deal ! when they showed that at E3 my thought was " Only for the Xbox 360 " Oh Noes I Won't Be Able To Sleep Now !
if i wanna Go On Facebook Or Twitter ... i have my PC here ... and if i really wanna i'l go on my PS3 Browser. what exactly are people gonna update on facebook or twitter that can't wait too be updated on the computer ? except for Hey Guys I Finally Got A Better System, I Got a PS3 !
but jokingly aside .. why it's cool too twitter from one gamer to another on a console about something in game .. might as well send a normal message or go on the PS or MAC and do it on their it's all one Big Waist of time .... only on the Xbox 360 !
Sora @ Sep 4th 2009 2:14PM
I didn't understand what you were trying to say.
HardBoiled2009 @ Sep 4th 2009 3:17PM
Facebook and Twitter On a Console is Stupid and a horrible idea especially to be used for Video Games. not saying they say it is but i'm just aying if it get's announced that's just one big step for stupidity ... but hey that's just me everyones entitled too their own opinions.
Jinsenken @ Sep 4th 2009 2:54PM
Really Joystiq?
This is breaking news?
Reeeeeally? Now I'm upset over how stupidly annoyed the "breaking" tag for this article made me. Stupid twitter.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Sep 4th 2009 3:32PM
ya know whats funny.....40 years from now when social networking is something you start doing in kindergarten you people are going to look ridiculous.....lol
"FUCK TWITTER!!" ..."grandpa I've been on twitter since I was 3"
EricC @ Sep 5th 2009 2:22PM
You're assuming that the "F--- TWITTER!" crowd is ever going to get laid, and thus procreate.
ChocoDK @ Sep 4th 2009 4:21PM
I wish Twitter would die. I dislike that I might get spammed with it on Xbox and now Twitter support in-game oh dear me. And would Twitter stop sending me emails when I don't have an account thank you.
Autobot @ Sep 4th 2009 5:22PM
Why does the Ps3 need this when you can run twitter fully functional on the Internet Browser? Not that anyone would use twitter...
DrObvious @ Sep 14th 2009 4:54PM
Hi developers let me clue you in. Twitter support for your game is L-A-M-E. As in really, lame. I don't care what my friend just did in a game nor will I ever. If somehow that changes I will constantly look at their achievements rather than receive your insipid Twitter spam about someone doing something or another. GOT IT? Now if you actually built into the client functionality so that people can receive live updates, or even send out meaningful updates I am all for that.
