PAX 2009: Uncharted 2 limited edition announced, you can't buy it

You're going to have to be quite fortunate if you intend to score one of the prized Uncharted 2: Fortune Hunter Limited Edition sets that Naughty Dog is having made, seeing as it won't be sold in stores. Unveiled this evening at the PAX '09 "sneak peek" panel, the extra-special packaging of the hotly-anticipated game includes a replica of the Purba Dagger featured prominently in the story, an art book and vouchers for yet-to-be-announced DLC. The only way to get one is to win one -- and exactly how to do that hasn't been disclosed.

After the reveal, the Naughty Dogs on stage told the audience to look under their seats. Unfortunately, this wasn't an "Oprah Moment" -- only one (very lucky) attendee plucked a red ticket from under his chair, securing a copy of what's sure to be a memorable keepsake. We bet his gleefulness was off the chart.

PlayStation.Blog has more details -- it's signed by the dev team! -- and a photo of the set. We're getting to the bottom of how these superb sets will be distributed, so stay tuned.

Obviously off-topic, but what is the appropriate forum to express my disgust for the remarkably crappy advertising that is bogging down the main page? Does the mother brain have an email address I can spam for this offense?

If you use Firefox and Adblock plus, You won't have to see any of the annoying ads on the main page :D

I don't mind ads but when I can't scroll smoothly down a page on my laptop, something's wrong. I love joystiq, and obtrusive ads are one of the reasons that I don't read IGN. hopefully the stiq won't follow in ign's footsteps.

trooper, i'm using adblock on firefox, and it doesn't block the giant ad on the front page.

We all know it's going to be map packs anyway, which flattens any excitement I had for DLC. It's not like they're going to extend the story or anything.

What good would an ultra exclusive map pack be ?

So all 10 people online at the same time who have it, can play it ?

Yeah I wasn't thinking about that when I wrote it. Give me a break though, this is like the first ever limited edition that's actually limited.

Well, look at it this way. If the DLC extended the story, that would mean those who don't have the DLC would be being shorted story.

Let's not move toward the idea mooted where you have to buy the final level of a game as DLC so as to kill the used market.

Its not "exclusive" DLC you r*tard its "as-yet-unannounced" DLC. so you get codes to download the DLC but no1 knows exactly what it will be till it is announced. tmac dont feel bad

hey come on, there's no reason to assume that this stuff will be a disc unlock thing or just ripped right out. It said voucher, not code or disc or whatever, so maybe it will even be months after

This actually makes way more sense. What point is a limited edition when anyone who wants one can chock over an extra 20-30 dollars.

I still keep seeing "limited" edition gta 4's going for 60 now because they aren't moving. gamers sure can be dumb. oooh.. artwork.. and a toy/cd. that'll be an extra 30 %

It's exactly the same as the old one, which I think looks good, except with the new banner. It might be fake, but it's on a few game sites already.

Thanks for the links, really this site has gone down since PS3fanboy went away, it's no longer reporting semi-minor things like this.

It seems like it's not just a new boxart but it could be a case redesign? I hope not as I really like the PS3s cases and have freaking 40 games perfectly lined up.

If it's just something they are adding to boxarts, then I guess I don't hate it, I thought I'd hate the PS network thing and that Only for playstation bit but they grew on me.

here in Europe we dont get the PS network thing and Only for playstation bit on ower PAL boxes. we have an advantige over you because we can see more of the boxart!!!

Wow talk about getting shafted with the DLC. I would almost prefer a map pack over that stuff, and I hate Uncharted's multiplayer.

Look at the guy in the pic. That was obviously his reaction to the fact it would be nearly impossible to get the limited edition.

For some reason, I feel like it could be a picture contest. I better start maintaining some 5 o' clock shadow, dirtying up a shirt, and perfecting the half-tuck so I can be one of the best look-alikes and win me a copy of Uncharted 2!

They are getting a lot of backlash on the blog and I understand why. Uncharted fans go ape shit for Uncharated, why wouldn't you sell it to them.

I've already preodered mine plus it only costs $99 bucks (don't laugh, that is cheap for a new AAA game here). Great to see someone other than the jerks at EB get something awesome on the preorder.

I have a bad feeling about this. I rike how you can only get this by winning a contest and earn actual bragging rights(Or sell it on eBay for $42,000), but I have bad feelings about this.

If it was sold in stores, anyone could buy it. But since you have to win this by a contest at some time or another, I'm starting to bet you'd have to be 18 years of age to get it. Which would probably make some loyal, underage Uncharted fans pretty angry.

I would never do anything rike this... Of course, I'm Hideo Kojima. I can do whatever I want.

I was hoping we'd get a CE for this game, but I think I've been a little put off by the Batman one. Is the dagger going to be cheap plastic and fixed to a stand?

Thankfully, I only payed £5 more to get the Batman one, but I still felt a little ripped off, so I'm definitely going to be more careful when buying these things now. I guess if this is actually a super special one you have to win, it's probably decent quality at least.

I still would have liked the ring though.

if only this game was published by Activision, we all would had been able to pre-order this limited edition for over $100, no problem. ;o( Oh well, too bad Naughty Dog just wanna make a legend out of this, not money. :o)
