PAX: Two new Ratchet and Clank Future: Crack in Time weapons revealed
Insomniac Games' "Weapons 101" PAX panel had a pair of treats for Ratchet and Clank fans. After giving attendees a look at Crack in Time's expansive list of armaments, the game's director, Brian Allgeier, revealed two brand new guns: The Chimp-O-Matic, which turns enemies into adorable monkeys (and changes robotic enemies into robotic monkey toys with cymbals), and the Rift Inducer 5000, a weapon which summons tentacles from an interdimensional portal, which in turn grasp enemies and abscond with them through the vortex.
Man, that seems kinda unfair, doesn't it? "You, enemy, will be turned into an adorable monkey. However, your friend is going to be abducted to a Hell dimension, where he'll be defiled by Cthulhu forever."

with the rift inducer 5000 you can make enemies "face the thing that should not be" - Metallica

Sounds good, and I'm glad I was able to preorder it the other day. Ratchet games are always enjoyable even if there's not too much to them, but I'm really looking forward to the space exploration in the game.

I dont understand...
I think the cover art is pretty sweet.
Evokes classic Struzan Star Wars posters.
Metal Muse @ Sep 4th 2009 6:09PM
too bad they cant reveal a new box art
Heavytoka @ Sep 4th 2009 6:10PM
What's wrong with the one they made?

Fools. I think the box art is just fine.
People will always find something to b*tch about.
"Oooo. I just paid $60+ for this game and the box art isn't good enough"
Shut up and play the game.
Metal Muse @ Sep 4th 2009 8:03PM
i'm so glad that you approved the box art but its still ugly boring lazy and reminds me of the mortal kombat vs DC.
Leroy_Rocktopus [Planeteer: Power of Asian Disability] @ Sep 4th 2009 10:23PM
Yeah, I think the game is going to kick ass, but that box art just looks lazy. The box art for Tools of Destruction does too.

I have never been disappointed by a Ratchet & Clank game. I need to get a PS3.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Sep 4th 2009 7:52PM
I guess since 3 was so much better than 5 (R&C Future:ToD) and 6 (Q4B) was so short, even lacking a collect-a-thon to add playtime, I have been disappointed by R&C games before.
But I don't expect to be disappointed this time.
deathxrebirth @ Sep 4th 2009 9:27PM
You were disappointed by TOD, but you expect to like this one? I don't get the logic...
TreND @ Sep 4th 2009 11:34PM
i need to get tod before this games comes out...

Yes! The Rift Inducer is back (albeit modified). I loved that weapon in UyA. And I'm digging the box art too. I like that split screen of Ratchet and Clank.
Neo Asuma @ Sep 4th 2009 7:30PM
Personally, I think the box art is awesome. Reflects how connected Ratchet & Clank are as partners.
garnsr @ Sep 4th 2009 6:14PM
I love Rift Inducers, and it looks like they're going back to guns that turn enemies into silly thing, instead of single use bombs (love penguins, but it was just too hard to use the stupid grenades.) Can't wait another two months!
Rhamsey @ Sep 4th 2009 6:16PM
Wish I caught Ratchet and Clank the first time around but I have still yet to play one of the games (its games right? I'm pretty sure). Anyway, the trailer shown during the halo ODST playthrough looked cool, and I've heard good things about the game. Gonna have to pick them up.
Bubbameister33 @ Sep 4th 2009 6:20PM
Purchased.

Anyone know which retailer has the Power Package pre-order bonus?
Jesus (PSN: Luttdawg) @ Sep 4th 2009 7:06PM
This game flew under the radar. Everything I hear about it makes it sound like it could be one of the best Ratchet games yet.
Platy @ Sep 4th 2009 7:11PM
This reminds me of those ads where a bunch of stupid guys tested the weapons with bad results .... those ads always made me feel bad about those people =(
Pat @ Sep 4th 2009 9:16PM
The R&C commercials have always been hilarious. These have been probably one of the best game ad campaigns ever:

I am so sorry Insomniac,After I played Resistance 2 and it was not as good as I thought it wouold be my faith wavered. I even thought about buying Demon Souls as opposed to RAC:CIT. But now I see. I should never doubt a Rachet game. I have enjoyed all versions of it and I should have seen that this one would rock the house no matter what the non-believers say. This game should never been under the radar, it should have hit the radar head on,broken it off and send it crashing to the ground. Don't worry Insomniac you will definately have me as a buyer. Demon Souls, GT5 and Heavy Rain will just have to wait
Neptune @ Sep 5th 2009 6:49AM
Nice to see The Groovitron is back. I just hope they would change it to be a weapon instead of device.
uranutan3 @ Sep 5th 2009 5:05PM
All I want out of this is for it to be challenging, even for people who use lock-strafe, which makes aiming a lot more accurate. Up Your Arsenal and Deadlocked did this fine, but I found playing through Tools of Destruction on Lock-Strafe to be way too easy.
Paper @ Sep 6th 2009 2:13PM
I really only play these games for the cool platforming. I actually find all the shooting to be a turn off of the series yet some of the guns are quite amusing. I usually stick to the good old wrench.
