Players frantically mashing buttons on their unresponsive controllers, wondering why all action in Uncharted has come to a bizarre (albeit visually stunning) standstill, may have become victims of the PlayStation 3's "isolated" Firmware 3.0 issues. Writing on the PlayStation Blog, Sony's Patrick Seybold has assured readers that Sony is aware of the complaints.
"Rest assured that we are looking into the matter and will provide an update here as soon as possible," Seybold wrote. "We apologize for any inconvenience, as it's our mission to deliver the best consumer experience on all PlayStation platforms."
Hang in there, Nate, help is on the way!

My heart goes out to you. I beat it 100 per cent in a few weeks, platinumed it within two weeks of the trophy patch and I still load it up and pick a level at random all the time. Probably will play through it again on crushing to prepare for U2 (no doubt the game of the year).

Me too! I just got the console and as my 1st game, I chose Uncharted. Bummer.

I don't know about that. My friend's controllers stopped working (about a year ago) after a firmware update and they still don't work. What's really weird is that her Rockband instruments still work just fine. Sony says to fix it she'll need to send it in and pay $$$. She's broke so it's a movies and Rockband machine for now...

I find hitting stuff helps.
Failing that, has she tried buying a new controller? Problem could be with the controller, not the console.
Failing that, try hitting it again.
Failing that, it sounds like an issue with the bluetooth - (The Rockband controller still work, I guess, because they're wired, and so don't use the bluetooth.) - so if she knows any tech-savvy people, they could try opening it up and fixing the bluetooth.

My buddies BT went on his, I believe he had this model CECHGxx
The wireless was also crap as he found out when he got the replacement (Much better). Too bad it was an out of warranty repair :(

"That sucks, is there anyway to fix it w/o money?"
Has Microsoft brain washed the gaming community so much that people are beginning to think that in order to fix an update they'll need to pay for it? No, this is the Playstation 3. Most things are free here.

As much as I hate the gray boxes too, there are reasons for them. I think they idea was that even if you have a biusy wallpaper or dynamic theme that your friends list would stillbe clearly visible. And looking at the Afrika dynamic theme I can see where it could be useful. The problem is that not every theme needs those boxes so they should just make the boxes optional.

Grey Boxes on the friend list
Bigger Font and icons without any option to resize back to original
3.00 just seemed rushed and way to make money off Dynamic themes, mores ads and so called premium avatars which will available in the future

I agree. I don't use custom backgrounds either (just custom icons). I like the default background and those boxes look terrible with the default theme. I think they should remove the extra PSN store shortcuts and make all the other cosmetic changes optional.

As much as I disagree with you about the store icons and the friends list, there definitely should be an option so people stop complaining.

I don't understand why people are so up in arms about this stuff. It's just cosmetic stuff. Conversely, I guess I'm one of the few that thought this update de-cluttered the friends list. Hopefully they release an update so people can turn it off and we can stop talking about the damn changes.
All things considered I liked the update quite a bit. I thought some off the added functionality was a nice touch. There wasn't much there especially not enough to throw tantrums about it online everyday.
The game freezing issues (if related to 3.00) are unacceptable and should be fixed with high priority. I think most of us understand the controllers that magically stopped working with this update were pretty much confirmed to be knockoffs. I don't have a problem with those not working.
I've never seen people with so much rage about a ticker, store icons and gray boxes.

Sure, it's cosmetic, but that's pretty much by definition since it's a GUI. Cosmetic changes can have impacts. After all, don't a lot of people complain about the layout and ads on the 360 dash? Most of those compaints are cosmetic too.
The extra store icons are nothing more than advertising. They clutter the dash with duplicate icons that aren't needed. They need to go.
They made the fonts and icons bigger which helps out people with smaller hi-res screens, but on large screens it is not a necessary change since everything was already readable as it was. They just take up more space making things look more cluttered. That should be optional.
The gray boxes can help with certain backgrounds, but with darker and/or less busy backgrounds (like the default) they just take up up space and make everything look cramped. Why give us new dynamic themes and a new default background only to cover them up with ridiculously huge and largly empty gray boxes? They should be optional.
The stupid ticker up top is useless. It almost never updates and just says the same things over and over. I mean, think about it, they generally only update the PSN once per week, so why the hell do I want to see the same messages scrolling across the screen for a week at a time? It's utterly pointless. Again, it just adds to the clutter. If they want give us a useful ticker they should allow users to add their own RSS URLs. THAT would be useful. Either way, it should be optional.
The What's New section doesn't bother me that much, but again I don't really see the point. There's a "New Releases" section right in the store. And, again, they only update once per week. So like the ticker I fail to see the need for that section when they only update once a week. I'd rather just be able to turn it off unless they can demonstrate why it is useful.
All that said, I do like some things about the update. The browser is better. I like the dynamic themes. The dual audio output is a very useful feature for some people. I like the friend and message indicators up top. Copy/paste and larger text messages are both welcome changes. Being able to FF/REW with the analog stick when watching movies is handy as is subtitle support from the hard drive. There really are things to like about the update, but the bulk of the cosmetic changes do nothing but make the XMB more like the 360's NXE... and that's not a good thing.

Hope they also add some options to remove the background blur, and the gray boxes in the friends list.
And also, IMO it'd be great to be able to choose how you wanted your trophies to be organized. I'd prefer my trophies organized from most-least. So for example, all my 100%s would be on top and then it would go down from there, so the 0%s would be all the way on the bottom. It'd be a nice, simple feature imo.

The way trophies are organized is by when you last played the game. So if you played CoD5, KillZone 2, SFIV, Linger In Shadows, and Rag Doll Kung Fu, then they will be in that order.
A simple fix for you is don't play your games you 100% all the time, or 100% all your games.

I thought Joystiq had a mission statement that said they won't accept revenue from game companies or keep any of the freebie gifts as it would compromise their integrity. Weird ... I just checked the mission statement and it's different now. I wonder when they changed it? Not it says they just won't accept cappuccino machine. Maybe I'm misremembering but I could swear the mission statement used to very pointed and rigidly defined.
I started getting worried a few days ago in that thread about Jade Raymond. That seemed out of character for this website to selectively ban readers more in one thread than in the previous entire year. This is especially true when as others mentioned they are the ones who have posted her picture in about half of the articles about her and even made an innuendo laden post about her themselves just before that. Something about referring to her assets.
Maybe it's all for not but it does seem peculiar that in the last few weeks we have seen XBL ads and now Dragon Age Origins has raped the main page. It's not even tastefully done.

johnnynumber5: I assure you we've always accepted games ads. Perhaps you're thinking of CrispyGamer?
Like most outlets, we have a wall between editorial and ad sales. The ad guys sell the ads, we make the content. A company like EA wants to reach our audience and they're (obviously) willing to spend a penny to do so. It's only on the home page; and it's only through Monday.
On the other hand, we've never accepted gifts from video game companies (where do you think our swag posts come from?); we've never accepted free hotel or airfare (we're pretty unique in that); and we don't put numbers on our reviews so, even if there WERE a concern that our reviews were compromised by advertising, the publishers don't much care if we're not messing up their metacritic score. (And scores on reviews are reductionist, but that's another discussion).
Joystiq.com is a free service; as a result, we accept advertising to support the cost of producing content. If you don't think we're trustworthy because our ad sales team sold a Dragon Age skin, then there's little I can do to change your mind.
