Players frantically mashing buttons on their unresponsive controllers, wondering why all action in Uncharted has come to a bizarre (albeit visually stunning) standstill, may have become victims of the PlayStation 3's "isolated" Firmware 3.0 issues. Writing on the PlayStation Blog, Sony's Patrick Seybold has assured readers that Sony is aware of the complaints.
"Rest assured that we are looking into the matter and will provide an update here as soon as possible," Seybold wrote. "We apologize for any inconvenience, as it's our mission to deliver the best consumer experience on all PlayStation platforms."
Hang in there, Nate, help is on the way!

I think I did it 4.2 times.
Once through right when it came out. Started it on the harder setting, gave up after a while.
Later, when DualShock came out I played it through again on regular. Finished it shortly before the trophies patch. Waited for the trophies patch, then started on crushing. Found it, well, crushing, and so did it on hard, then after doing it on hard I went back and did it again on crushing and it was a total PITA.
It's one of the few games I have platinum on.
It is a bummer that you kind of lose excitement over the movies with repeated plays. Which doesn't seem right since the movies are the some of the best ever made. But such is life.
One weird part is that the peak in difficulty on crushing in the game comes early, it's as you're headed for the library in the kind of fort area. The big firefights before that in the jungles are hard too. After that, it's a lot of puzzling, which doesn't get much harder, and oddly, the fighting after the twist is easy, even on crushing, neither the type Z nor type N baddies are particularly harder on crushing than regular. The final battle is total kick in the shorts though.

I've done it about 5 as well. I have a white ds3 and firmware 3.0 and popped it in the other day with no problems at all.

As a new (bought my PS3 less than a month ago) user it seems to me that firmware 3.0 added sparkles but not a lot else. Here's hoping that a bug fix is rapidly forthcoming, because I love my piano black, sexy, expensive looking PS3.
Also, I hope they add Metal Gear Solid to the European store, FTW.

Get Dark Messiah on PC.
(Yeah, I know this was a joke post, but it's a really cool game. Go get it.)
(The PC version, though, not the 360 one. Apparently the 360 version sucks.)

I played through the whole game with my Slim on 2.80 then 3.0. Didn't lock up once.
I did get it to lock up after I beat the game though. Went to the in-game XMB, selected a video I wanted to watch, told it ok to exit the game...3 beeps and one black screen later it was locked. The button holding trick didn't work like with my old 60GB, had to yank the power cable. Yuck.

Do the freezes happen more on Slims or Phats? I've been gearing up to buy a PS3 Slim this Wednesday + Uncharted and MGS4. Should I hold off on Uncharted for a bit?

The issue seems completely random. I have an original 60 GB launch model and I haven't had any freezing issues. I don't think there is anyway to know for sure.

Am I the only one that my internet connection has actually gotten BETTER since the update?
Posted: Sep 4th 2009 9:40PM deathxrebirth said
My internet speeds did not really change, but I have no problems with the update. Both my imported white DS3's work just fine.
I like the update well enough. A little sloppy, but I don't know why so many people are crying.

If Sony do patch update 3.0 maybe they could add the option to adjust the size of the icons and fonts down on the interface. It wouldn't look like a frigging Wii then.

I got a new Samsung LCD the same day as Firmware 3.0, No controller issues but I no longer get the PS3 logo and chimes after I boot-up a game from the menu. During the time the sequence is supposed to be on screen, my tv loses it's signal and both the picture and sound are MIA. Probably an quirk of the TV but wondering if anybody elese has had this issue since 3.0

Same here and I'm on a Sharp Aquos. It is like it's changing the signal for a split second.

It's normal. The slim, with 2.78 out of the box, didn't have the game startup jingle and logo. Did the same with 2.80 and now 3.0. I kinda miss it from my 60GB but if it makes games start 1 second earlier, that's fine with me.

I'm not downloading the new firmware until it's fixed.
I haven't forgotten the 2.4 debacle.

Hi, a few of you are talking about ads in joystiq which i'm not seeing. If you're running IE, install 'IE7Pro' which is a popular addon that includes an ad-blocker (turn it on in the Options) as well as a simple, fast download manager. Or, use Firefox with the Adblock addon. Both will solve ya problem, and because you aren't downloading banners or ads anymore, the page loads faster. Enjoy.

Sony needs to FIX IT. I just got my PS3 slim and Uncharted was the first game I put in. I'm happily playing and all of a sudden, the console freezes. Not a good first impression!
