This 'launch' trailer (though the game isn't out until October) includes some animated story sequences, the use of which shouldn't be much of a surprise in a hand-drawn game. It also includes a quick look at some delightful jellybean-granted Blob abilities, like a mech and some kind of "boy" shape.

Reminds me of Little Nemo, that film defined my childhood!

What a gorgeous game. Very Miyazaki-esque.
I may have to talk my girlfriend into getting this game. Between Muramasa and this, the Wii is looking like a good place for hand-drawn 2D video games.

I watched my autistic cousin play Wario Land for a full week this summer, game surprised the hell out of me so I ended up buying it myself. Quite ashamed that I passed it up last year. Really fun game and gorgeous hand-drawn graphics. If you haven't already, add that to the 2D Wii games you need list.

Why did you need to tell me that your cousin is autistic? isn't that information a bit unnecessary? That'd be like me saying "I was playing video games with my homosexual friend the other day" instead of "So, the other day I was playing games with my friend..."
Anyway, I saw a little bit of Wario Land in action earlier this week. It looked really good, but I didn't have time to play it for myself.

Didn't mean to light your fuse friendo.
I figure it added to the fact that I watched him play it almost non-stop, doing everything there is to do in the game, and listening to him go on and on and on about the wonders of the game when he wasn't playing. I love my cousin to death, and because he's not some fat lazy kid that does nothing but sit and play video games all day long (during the middle of the summer no less), I made the decision that his autism was relevant to my little story. He focuses on one thing at a time and the glorious week I happened to spend with my autistic cousin (I see them once a year if I'm lucky), he just so happened to be focused on this game, and I cherished every second of spending time with him and his focus.
I'm glad your response wasn't rash or anything, and you didn't focus on the single least important element of my reply.

I'm gonna have to agree with Jrinswand here. Mentioning that your cousin is autistic adds nothing to the context of the rest of your post. When I read it, it came off more like you were bragging that you had an autistic cousin, which seemed weird. Your offended response only seems to enforces that view.

Yeah, I don't think adding that your cousin is autistic helps your comment. Its just extra info we probably don't need.

Miyazaki is the first thing that came to my mind too...and then I thought full length animated movie of the Boy and his Blob wouldn't be too bad if done right

Ironic that I came here to remark on the blob's ability to form a hole in the ground, (and the wonder of how this creation of anti matter doesn't destroy or mangle the boy) because y'all Joystiq posters are just wierd picky stuck up black holes of hate. Who are you from possible thousands of miles away to judge his relationship with his cousin. Keep on keepin on, gobo.

i'm one of those people that actually owned and played this on the NES. i don't know if that's what is making me excited for this, or just the way it's so damn pretty.

This is what kid friendly games should be. Not those weak movie tie ins that aren't worth the discs they're printed on.

What a nice looking remake! I'll definitely pick this up. I remember having to use the Game Genie on the NES to finish this back in the day. That was still nothing compared to how well the speed run was accomplished in 11:30.

I used to have this game back when it originally came out on the NES and loved it. I must have been around 10 years old? I used to be able to beat it, too. I played the original a little more recently. I don't remember it being so darn hard... Lots of trial and error. I don't have the patience for these retro games anymore.
I will most definitely be picking this up on the Wii. The game's art direction looks amazing, though I have to admit that it doesn't really seem to have the 'feel' of the first game...
