New Star Wars: TOR planet revealed - Coruscant, galaxy's 'greatest civilization'

While news that Coruscant will join dozens of other planets in the BioWare-developed MMO is about as surprising as the presence of Jedis ("Really?") and lightsabers ("No way!"), we're certain that being at the nexus of the galaxy's main trade routes will come in handy ... did you know that a bunch of fictional trade routes ran through Coruscant before reading Wikipedia? Be honest, we won't judge you.
SW: TOR fansite Darth Hater managed to snag some shakicam footage of the reveal (in less than twelve parsecs?) which we've smuggled over after the break. Not a Dagobah that we don't get even more Hoth and bothered, adding Kashyyyk to our piggy banks to buy a brand Naboo copy of Star Wars: The Old Republic, what's sure to be the Endor-be-all of Star Wars-based MMOs. Also, what planets could they possibly add next?

This can very easily be the first MMO I actually get into....(unless DC Universe manages to come out first)...I damn sure cant wait....
gamepete64 @ Sep 6th 2009 3:47PM
Same here. I hope it's a large enough area of the planet.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Sep 6th 2009 5:01PM
the way they are talking you will have multiple planets...and my guess is they will all be massive...
funkdunk @ Sep 6th 2009 2:14PM
im sooooo pumped for this game. its not even funny
Dummy00001 @ Sep 7th 2009 10:14AM
Just to cool off, consider that Star Wars are nothing more than a rip off of traditional Japanese samurai fairy tales.
Including the masked man who changed sides.
squeehunter @ Sep 7th 2009 12:12PM
That's like saying A Bug's Life is a rip off of Seven Samurai. Same BASIC outline, and then that's it. You know, you should stop talking.
Aero @ Sep 6th 2009 2:19PM
Those puns were bad and you should feel bad Chris.
Travis @ Sep 6th 2009 2:54PM
i hope these guys don't get paid much...
Rock Fistpump @ Sep 6th 2009 10:02PM
Personally I found his comments to be very punny.
Special Agent Steve @ Sep 6th 2009 2:22PM
Oh. My. Gosh.
*giddy scream*
Night Elve @ Sep 6th 2009 2:24PM
A little off-topic. One of the things that I stopped visiting another gaming blogs was because of those annoying background ads and now Joystiq is starting to implement them ... oh well.
Back on topic, this MMO seems pretty interesting, the last MMO I played was Ragnarok Online seems it's time to play another MMO could be this one or Aion which looks pretty sweet.
Riley @ Sep 6th 2009 4:23PM
um, Adblock?
Slyphon Filter @ Sep 7th 2009 3:09AM
adblock doesn't work on the background. it works on all the other ads on the site, but doesn't affect the BG at all.
Dummy00001 @ Sep 7th 2009 10:20AM
> adblock doesn't work on the background.
AdBlock doesn't. But AdBlock was depricated eons ago in favor of Adblock Plus and there it works fine.
In FireFox, main menu's 'View' - 'Adblock Plus: Blockable Items'. Click once on 'Type' column and then check for the 'background' items.
But my case is different: I have temporarily whitelisted joystiq.com to enjoy the ad in all its beauty. Ad is simple and not so annoying like many other full page ads. So I can't complain.
Jason @ Sep 6th 2009 2:25PM
the puns...they hurt my little fanboy brain....
Mr Khan @ Sep 6th 2009 2:32PM
I don't know why it wasn't revealed sooner, quite frankly. It would be hard to make a Star Wars MMO without it.
They should put Myrkr in, just for the lulz of having a planet where all force-using classes are useless.
The Dark Wayne @ Sep 6th 2009 2:44PM
now that you mention that, i wonder if non jedi classes will ever get access to a yslarmi, maybe as a high end pvp item or something
bongoes the Black Lantern @ Sep 6th 2009 7:29PM
I want to be a Jedi with a yslarmi, just to mess with people.
meledeo @ Sep 6th 2009 2:42PM
That's awesome... my only concern is, how much of the planet are they actually going to create? It would be annoying to be artificially limited to such a tiny fraction of the planet's surface, but I don't see how else they could do it and have any legitimate launch date for this game. Populating that world within any sense of realism alone would probably amount to more than all other MMO games' landmass combined, especially if you start allowing people down into the undercity (which you have to... I mean come on!).
Uncontrol @ Sep 6th 2009 2:44PM
i have no clue what anything in this post says
The Dark Wayne @ Sep 6th 2009 3:08PM
Then you just suck at reading
venk @ Sep 6th 2009 6:53PM
I just hope it has lasers that go pew pew
Ballistic H @ Sep 6th 2009 7:18PM
Agree meledeo: how much are they gonna populate Coruscant?
MRLN the Amazing @ Sep 8th 2009 10:01PM
The easy way out would be to not let you get down to street level, as it would also help to enhance the "citied planet" thing. I guess that wouldn't be as much fun, though...
Rhamsey @ Sep 6th 2009 3:30PM
I am truly excited for this game. Wish they showed more.
The Dark Wayne @ Sep 6th 2009 3:49PM
im so excited that i dont want them to show anymore because it will make waiting for it even harder
Special Agent Steve @ Sep 6th 2009 5:01PM
If we're going on wishes, I wish it was released. NOW!
Old Professor Zertoss @ Sep 6th 2009 5:06PM
Did Ludwig hack into Chris's account?
Jose @ Sep 6th 2009 5:12PM
Agreed, very good Ludwig impression indeed. Could you say "fook!" for me? Has District 9 even come out in i's motherland yet?
bongoes the Black Lantern @ Sep 6th 2009 7:27PM
"If you didn't look it up on Wikipedia and just knew it, well ..."
Well, well what?!
Akuma FTW @ Sep 6th 2009 9:52PM
I just wanted to thank Joystiq for the heads-up on the free KOTOR codes - went to their panel this morning and am downloading the game as I type
I heart Joystiq
deluded spider @ Sep 6th 2009 11:34PM
I'm such a fangirl that I totally got goosebumps and otherwise nerded-out at that footage. I will totally give up WoW to play this. I've always liked scifi more than fantasy, anyway.
It needs to be released NOW.
X3HaloEd @ Sep 8th 2009 12:36PM
/agree
minus the fangirl part.
Anthony M. @ Sep 8th 2009 7:56PM
but are you fat...
That's the question.
bluezy @ Sep 7th 2009 12:06AM
Puns rock.

*shivers down my spine*
I am so ridiculously excited for this game! ITS SCARY! BUT I LOVE IT!
henri @ Sep 7th 2009 3:39AM
erm master cheif at 1:03?
Bradwart @ Sep 7th 2009 8:08PM
I look at this and see how great KotOR III could be...stupid LucasArts.
thewalrusking @ Sep 7th 2009 8:58PM
Maybe they should call Trantor the galaxies best civilization, Lucas stole so much from Asimov in the Foundation Trilogy. I wont list them all but man there are like 15 real things in those books he stole, like the force, hyperdrive, Trantor, jedi, i think even lightsabers.
Yin @ Sep 8th 2009 10:22PM
Man, someone else knows about the Asimov "homage"! Trantor pwns Coruscant, though, the city/planet being fully enclosed and miles high.
However, I wouldn't say Lucas stole lightsabers, as Asimov stuck with good ol' projectile-esque blasters and neuronic whips. Even the Force is a stretch, or at least Lucas heavily expanded on Foundation mentalics, as they really only had Jedi mind trick.
thewalrusking @ Sep 9th 2009 1:12PM
Ya I meant blasters I havent read it in awhile maybe I will now.
Matt @ Sep 9th 2009 5:51PM
PUNSPLOSION!
