'If people love it,' Halo's Firefight mode could be added to Reach

Halo 3: ODST's survival horde Firefight Mode is probably the most notable addition to the upcoming Halo 3 expansion from Bungie Studios. With Halo: Reach headed to consoles next Fall, the developer had left the possibility of the new mode's inclusion in that project up in the air ... at least until now. Speaking with Eurogamer at PAX 2009, Bungie community manager Brian Jarrard said Firefight could very well make it into Halo: Reach -- "if people love it," that is.

If you've ever played Gears of War 2, Firefirght Mode is Bungie's take on Horde Mode.

Even if you didn't know what Firefight was because you don't follow Xbox news why would you assume it's a good idea to ask about it on a new article that you should clearly understand isn't presenting Firefight mode for the first time. Do some damn research on your own....

Holy... "I don't think we've ever been known to really take things away from each successive release"... As mentioned in the article, the Battle Rifle from Halo 3 is not in Halo 3: ODST... And he still think he can say that?
Personally, I won't miss the BR, but seriously - that's like saying that Guitar Hero World Tour was the first "true band experience" in a game...

um, actually it's almost nothing like that, what a strange comparison.

They didn't actually take it away though. They just don't have it in single-player. It's still in multiplayer.

@Ex14: The Battle Rifle will still be in multiplayer (ODST's multiplayer is EXACTLY the same as Halo 3's and you actually can play with either disc in the 360) so it won't balance anything out really. In Campaign, the Pistol is actually a better weapon to have than the BR (as experienced in HaloCE)

ODST's "multiplayer" isn't ODST's at all.
There are 2 discs:
1) ODST. This contains only ODST Campaign and ODST Firefight.
2) Mythic. This contains only Halo 3 with 24 multiplayer maps, no campaign at all.
i.e. multiplayer (apart from Firefight) has nothing to do with ODST at all.

So they can release it as DLC later and make more money.

What do we even know about Reach? It's an FPS, but do you play as Master Chief or ODST?

It's a Prequel to Halo: Combat Evolved. In the trailer, there is a COM message that says, "Spartans on the ground.", which means that this is a story with multiple Spartans. For it to have multiple Spartans, it would have to take place between 2517 (Master Chief was 6 years old) and 2552 ("The Halo Event"). That's the time frame of the book "Halo: The Fall of Reach", and the title of the game, "Halo: Reach", points heavily to this. If it is based on the events of The Fall of Reach, then we'll see how the Covenant took over Reach, Earth's last stronghold and training grounds for the Spartans, and how the Covenant found Earth.
But, as far as multiplayer goes, if it's going to have a Beta, there's probably going to be a fairly significant change between it and Halo 3, so we're all waiting to see what that's about.

The theory at this time is that you play as a Spartan, but not necessarily John. You might switch between other members of his squad around the time of the Fall of Reach.

I'm hoping you can make your own Spartan for single player and multiplayer.

in the book, Master Chief was only at the battle of Reach at the very beginning, and in space at that, and at the very end. My guess is we'll probably play as Fred, who was the Spartan in charge of all the others on Reach, or maybe as others have suggested, creating our own Spartan although that seems unlikely

Yes, Silicon, I realized that it is required for every citizen to read the Halo series if you want to actually be a member of "Earth". Good job ripping that line from Shadowbender 5 comments up.

Stop being jealous & buy an XBOX 360 - it's so obvious that you want to play the game, but your mom/dad only got u a PS3 (not both), so now the only way to express yourself is to unleash hatred on what you can't have.

Valhalla pales in comparison to Blood Gulch. That was my favorite map in Halo/Halo 2. Ascension was pretty fun too, especially when you took a Banshee up top and sniped all across the map. If they add it to ODST, they should add an updated version to Reach as well. I'd expect the new Gears title to keep Horde, since that was the best part to the game IMO. I'm also hoping we'll see both of the last Carmine brothers...
I think Firefight will be the best horde-type game yet. All your favorite Halo weapons against endless waves of the Covenant outside of the campaign. Definitely worth the pre-order.

Only idea I've got is that they are worried about game size. An 8GB disc isn't a lot of room.

yes, this is the same problem i have. i was so excited for this, but they're not including any match making for firefight mode. so it basically turns into how custom games are now on H3 and you must invite friends to your party to play Firefight.. what a buncha horseshit. and there's matchmaking for gears of war's horde mode but not this :/
