Lips mic compatible with The Beatles: Rock Band, RB2 'soon'

The Lips mic patch for Rock Band has been in the pipe since last year, with a release window announced a couple months back for this summer, which we now know will occur after (not with) the release of The Beatles: Rock Band this Wednesday.

Yeah, I thought this happened already. What the hell is taking them so long.
Brodo @ Sep 7th 2009 6:09PM
"So the mic will be compatable with RB?"
"Oh ya for sure, only 35 songs though"
bongoes the Black Lantern @ Sep 7th 2009 3:05PM
I wish Sony would release a nice wireless mic like this one.

bongoes the Black Lantern @ Sep 7th 2009 3:17PM
Oh I forgot about those. Do they work with Rock Band though? And the article only mentions Europe, are they out in the US?
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Sep 7th 2009 3:27PM
I cant find anything saying they work for Rock Band and no they are not out in the US yet....but My guess is they will be here sometime Next year.....hopefully a bit cheaper and with a SingStar R&B/Hip-hop
The Baron @ Sep 7th 2009 3:35PM
Can we trade? Europe gives you all the crappy singstar stuff they throw at us, and we get some decent deals and release dates on RB peripherals?
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Sep 7th 2009 3:39PM
But Europe LOVES Singstar....right?? I mean THATs part of the reason why all things singstar come out there first...well that and its done by SCEE...lol
seamonkey420 @ Sep 7th 2009 4:35PM
i gave up on waiting and just made my own :)
cost a bit more but worth it for those who play as much rock band as i do :P

Archon (PSN: Archonik, XBL: DarkARHN) @ Sep 8th 2009 4:37AM
Just to confirm: Yes, they are wireless, and yes, they work in Rock Band and The Beatles: Rock Band.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Sep 7th 2009 3:11PM
Now if they would do the Same thing with the wireless Singstar mics
Archon (PSN: Archonik, XBL: DarkARHN) @ Sep 8th 2009 4:38AM
The wireless Singstar mics work with Rock Band 2 and The Beatles: Rock Band. No patch needed.

Really?? well damn....
Onlineatron @ Sep 7th 2009 3:12PM
Don't all mics work on all games.
@Black Lantern
They have them in the UK but you they had to cater for the PS2 SingStar market as well so they have batteries and need a dongle receiver plugged into the console.
The Baron @ Sep 7th 2009 3:35PM
USB mics do, but wireless is a little tricky.
Special Agent Steve @ Sep 7th 2009 3:19PM
That's an ugly mic. But at least it works with Rockband and Guitar Hero.
Hey Apples @ Sep 7th 2009 3:46PM
It lights up when in use. It's actually pretty neat looking.
Special Agent Steve @ Sep 7th 2009 4:08PM
Orly? Then that's pretty sick.
evilspoons @ Sep 8th 2009 12:28AM
I picked up a used one for $8... I don't even have a copy of "Lips", I'm stoked for it to work with Rock Band though!
el serpiente @ Sep 7th 2009 3:19PM
I'll tell you what else lips are compatible with...
WiredKnight @ Sep 7th 2009 3:25PM
Man that phrase coupled with that avatar just makes you look creeeeeeepy.

That recently got put on the Netflix instant streaming thing. A classic.
NBA Kirkland @ Sep 7th 2009 3:20PM
Harmonix should be embarrassed by how long it has taken to get the patch for RB2 out.
By the way, I've used the LIPS wireless mics in GH5 and they work quite well.
supakoopa @ Sep 7th 2009 3:36PM
They want to release it at the same time as RBN, otherwise Microsoft would charge them for the second update.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Sep 7th 2009 3:36PM
I dont understand WHY MS and Sony didnt include drivers for their mics in the dev kits and make them mandatory for music games from the start...hell I'm still upset that the Singstar Wireless mics arent Bluetooth....I mean I know they did it that way because they wanted it to be compatible with the PS2 but hell...they could have just made some BT ones as well for the PS3
Seroth @ Sep 7th 2009 3:21PM
Damn, this thing is 60 bucks for a SINGLE microphone? I better find a Lips bundle soon before those go away forever.
Deezul @ Sep 7th 2009 6:50PM
Gamestop has the single mikes priced at $50, right next to a LIPS pack with two mikes for $40. I'm really curious if anyone was buying those individual mikes...
pibs @ Sep 7th 2009 3:28PM
Yup they work with TB:RB but I've been waiting ages for the RB2 update... I heard that they work with the Country Track Pack for Rock Band, so my guess is they are just waiting to bundle the patch up with the RB Network release.
Hafkie @ Sep 7th 2009 3:35PM
I'm really upset with how long the RB2 patch has taken. We've heard about them supporting Lips microphones since January, and the they said they were working on the patch for this and improved score tracking. Then they said they are working on a patch for RBN.
Honestly, I'd rather have 3 patches than one giant patch at the end of the year. I've been waiting for improved score tracking for ages, and their competition has had support for Lips microphones since GH: Metallica. I mean, the patch is going to be great, but I'd rather have these features sooner than later. I understand that RBN still has some kinks to be taken care of before release (They want it to be perfect, I don't blame them!), but Lips support HAS to be done by now. Hell, the code is already there in TB:RB, so it's just a matter of releasing it.
kurama271 @ Sep 7th 2009 3:44PM
think of it from a company stand point, lips is just a xbox thing, the score tracking and RBN are xbox and ps3, why prioritize on system when you can prioritize both systems. That and the lips isn't negatively affecting anyone. everyone can still play the game just fine, its just an added convience to be able to use the lips mic.
NBA Kirkland @ Sep 7th 2009 6:02PM
MS has been advertising and selling the wireless mics for several weeks. On the package it says they work with Rock Band (*with software patch). The ads I've seen don't mention a patch. I'd say people who have purchased the mics expecting it to work in RB are "negatively affected."
The Alex @ Sep 7th 2009 3:54PM
I really dig this announcement. Good job Harmonix, my Lips microphones needed some dusting off (I kid, I used em last week when they released that Robbie Williams track...).
joejoecastillo @ Sep 7th 2009 4:08PM
i think the lips mics are better. or i'm just getting better at singing
BustedChain @ Sep 7th 2009 4:42PM
Micro$haft, Harmonix, MTV etc: Hurry the F**K up already and patch RB2!
BustedChain @ Sep 8th 2009 10:44AM
Yeah, vote me down for being pissed off and pointing out that this patch has taken SOOOO freaking long to come out. It should have been done in 1 to 3 months after Lips launched. Period.
sic @ Sep 7th 2009 4:51PM
Do these mics have a d-pad/buttons on them or do you still have to use a controller to navigate menus? I quite like my wired Logitech mic with the d-pad etc built in.
xsirxx @ Sep 7th 2009 7:11PM
They do not have a D-Pad but have a sensor built into them so you control by swinging the mic in a direction.
AxFactor @ Sep 7th 2009 5:19PM
And in other news Duke Nukem Forever has been released
Benjamin Heckendorn @ Sep 7th 2009 6:11PM
Download the ad video for "Lips" (the one with the shy girl at the party) then tell me if anyone if that room would be caught dead with a MS product.
jasonjmp @ Sep 7th 2009 5:57PM
Yeah. Almost a year and we still dont have it. "Soon" isnt good enough HMX/MSFT , tell us what the deal is and commit to a real date. Jeeze. I bought these mics because in 2008 your promised it was coming. Clearly no one thought it would take a year.
Good for you GH franchise.
MarkHawk @ Sep 7th 2009 6:10PM
I wrote a review on Amazon about this Mic not working with RB2 yet. If you guys are interested here is the Lips bundle with 2 mics and 1 copy of Lips. Not a bad game in my opinion. Lots of DLC but when your into RB2 as much as I am... it's hard to purchase any of the DLC without wondering if it is going to be in RB2.

xsirxx @ Sep 7th 2009 8:57PM
OK let me get 2 things straight here. This is exactly the same as the Lips mics right? Secondly, How do we know that the patch for RB2 is coming out later after RB: Beatles? From everything I've read it all points to the patch coming out tomorrow or Weds?
So unless I missed some news, I'm lost.
Frederf @ Sep 11th 2009 6:08PM
The MS Wireless Microphone and the Lips microphone are one and the same. The little hardware pamphlet that comes in the Lips bundle says "Microsoft Wireless Microphone" across it. Don't be confused by the price hike. This is the same Microsoft that charges an arm and a leg for a 120GB laptop drive or a wireless network adapter.
The Lips mic works right away with TB:RB as well as some of the newer RB2 track packs (Country Pack at least) and some guitar hero stuff. The RB2 patch is coming "soon" which means whenever they feel like it.
