Rumor: Japanese YouTube ad leaks Japanese FFXIII release date

A giant Final Fantasy XIII ad has appeared on YouTube for users in Japan, advertising the reveal of the game's release date sometime tomorrow -- that's a "few weeks" after the announcement of the release date was announced, mind you. Some 2ch users didn't feel like waiting until tomorrow, however, and started messing with the URL of the ad. All that was required to trigger the release date display was the substitution of the word "after" for "before" in the URL, and the above image came up.

According, at least, to this Flash file linked by a fansite (though hosted on the 2mdn domain of ad company Doubleclick), the Japanese release date for Final Fantasy XIII is December 17, 2009. We did not think it was really going to come out in 2009. Of course, there's still plenty of time to delay it.

you might want to remember that they have to get the x360 version up to scratch too.....since they are suppose to be releasing both at the same time. But more or less that may be the gist of whats left for the NA PS3 version.

I work with a fan project for translating Japanese visual novels and it's much more than just translating the text and voice overs. There's translating the GUI, images, etc. and A LOT of testing. You'll run into problems like fitting the text on to the screen/GUI since English letters will take more space than Kanji and translating the attack names will take some creativity (hopefully not just adding -ja, -ka to the attacks).

I bet they are waiting for the reviews of the JP version and improve the ENG version based on the reviews. But it's probably get 40 across the board on Famitsu. Of course 360 development could hold back the development but let's not turn this into a fanboy war again...

Probably not as you want more than English subtitles since menu UI needs to be changed as well (and when that's done, the English version is done)

Well, since the White Engine or whatever its called was designed for multiplatform, I can't see how it could take very long to port it to the 360 besides optimizing and splitting it into a few discs. If the English dub is indeed finished, then I can see the game coming out in the US by Fall 2010 or possibly even Summer 2010.

Speaking of multiple discs, btw, did anyone find it ironic when Otacon makes the joke in MGS4, "Okay, Snake, now it's time to switch discs...oh wait, this is the PS3! With Blu-Ray!"

Yeah, Otacon, I'd rather spend 15 minutes when I first play the game, and 5 minutes before every act waiting for the game to install than get off my ass a couple of times to switch the disc and immediately begin playing. Good one.

And either way, the load times store data on the HDD so that the load times are shorter. If it was using DVD then you would still have to install the game, but you would have to change discs too.

My mind-numbing, genre-bending epic will require you to change SYSTEMS when you change each disc. And we're looking at 1TB discs here.

Although, while we're on the topic, let me just say that the problem is that Sony has hyped up the Blu-ray's capacity to fit everything on one disc so much that at this point, putting a game on multiple discs when it would be beneficial to so so, such as with MGS4, would be ridiculed by the community. I think this is a problem, don't you?

And how could you not see that line in the game as a stab at the 360?

Well.. at that particular part of the game you're on an island called Shadow Moses in Alaska. This island is the setting to the first Metal Gear Solid game for the Playstation. At that particular part of the map when you venture down the stairs in the first game for the PS1, Otacon will contact via your codec and tell you that you need to switch to disc 2. He makes a reference to this scene in MGS4 at the exact same location. As sony boy said, It's poking fun at Metal Gear Solid, not the 360.

Didn't We all know that the Japanese version was coming out Winter 09 (this date seems later than what I expected tbh) with US release date around Spring 10. (and dunno on Euro Release)
With them saying the English re-working is done I hope a US/Euro release is sooner than later
