Everytime I see a sackboy avatar on Joystiq it's always downvoted to the max. Has anyone else noticed this??

Halo has always been pretty good at being relatively down to earth with human technology. I think it is supposed to be the twenty-sixth century or something, so Bungie definitely held themselves back in comparison to a lot of sci-fi, which I've always liked about the series.

Spoiler alert: The Flood probably happened to the rest of the ODST team.

The Flood don't come to Earth until Halo 3, and ODST is set before it

@Gobo: That has actually been a pet-peeve of mine. I mean are we really to believe that three to four hundred years in the future we still use ballistic weaponry?

The only things that really stand out as being futuristic are the space ships and the AI's like Cortana.

I mean if they set it in the late 21st or early 22nd century maybe...oh well...

If Bungie really wanted to be funny, they could referenced that picture.

"We took the BR out, well, because it'll do that to your face."

That or the ODST team couldn't fine a decent pair of clippers.

Hey, what works, works right? But yeah, going back and reading some "classic" scifi that's today, very outdated with it's tech, still doesn't really take away from the story. However, almost all our visions of the future end up being wrong and just silly, so I guess Bungie just decided to make it as plausible as possible, even if the series won't be timeless.

@ Obie.

Well, mankind used arrows for 11,000 years.

And we've already had gunpowder firearms for 900 years (since the first Chinese cannons). What's another 500?

They called this the "flock of seagulls" pic, if I remember right. The panel was pretty awesome, and you can really tell that everything in the game was fought tooth and nail for. Lots of tension. Wu seems like he'd be a pretty intense art director to work for...

i dont know if lasers would ever be possible as handheld technology. I mean look at the Spartan Laser, that's pretty realistic. The only weapon lasers we have now are either in 747s with their cargo holds full of equipment and chemicals to generate the beam or those huge base ones for shooting down missiles in Israel. I would however expect the guns to be beyond gunpowder propulsion, i mean there are gauss cannons in the game, i would really expect those to be utilized in hand weapons
