Peter Moore looks back at the Dreamcast
With this being Sept. 9, 2009 and all, you're probably going to be seeing a lot of looks back at the Dreamcast, which burst forth from the belly of the Saturn's rotting corpse 10 years ago today. Well, that is until the embargo ends on the Dreamcast 2 announcement at 9 p.m. ... Oh, crap. Forget you heard anything.
To distract you, here are Peter Moore remembrances of the system (with a liberal dose of rationalizing EA's lack of support for it, of course). He also clears up the important point of who finally pulled the plug on the console. (No, not the PS2, wiseguy. And shame on you for speaking ill of the dead!)
[Thanks, Chris]

...what?...

Seriously. There are like 2-3 a year since the "death" of the Dreamcast. At one point Sega even bundled reconditioned units with a new game and sold them online... I think that was last year? Anyhow, the most recently announced title, which is coming out Oct 22nd is called Rush Rush Rally Racing. Bear witness:

I never played a Dreamcast, I was always more into the N64 (please don't kill me)....
Deadpool @ Sep 9th 2009 8:53PM
I picked a second Dreamcast up at a pawnshop for $15 dollars. For me all the Capcom fighters on there are worth having two Dreamcast. Not to mention Soul Calibur....before it went cameo crazy.

I had a conversation with the Dreamcast back in 2000. I asked how it felt about the Ps2 and Nintendo. It told me...."It's thinking".
Very powerful words.
Sly Cooper, Attorney at Law @ Sep 9th 2009 9:21PM
so deadpool, i heard you're joining the x-force. why?
The Dark Wayne @ Sep 9th 2009 9:28PM
Sly, two issues ago, Deadpool shot himself in the head after two months of TV and Nachos, because he thought it would be fun. After that he decided to be a pirate and bought a tugboat for the price of a nuclear submarine. Is that really the kinda question you wanna ask?
Sly Cooper, Attorney at Law @ Sep 9th 2009 10:04PM
...
deadpool, you are one fucked up dude.
Deadpool @ Sep 9th 2009 10:20PM
No No....Dark Wayne he deserves an answer and I'm gonna give it to him. Now he may not like it and refuse to except it. But the fact of the matter is that, it is what it is and he'll have to deal with it like every body else. Now I could walk around this question all day like a used car dealer from a high end used car dealership...but I'm not. I'm going to stand tall, hold my ground, look him straight in the eye and tell him why I'm doing what I'm doing. I've walked around for years with people asking me that question and the answer has always been simple. I will continue giving that same answer until the end of time. The answer is simple. Most people wouldn't know the answer, but I'm not most people. There's no else like me. I can't promise you that there isn't though. Someone probably could have cloned me like Spider-man. Remember that? That was crazy wasn't it? You look out of the window and you see 20 Spider-men fighting each other. Then you're like "What Foe-joe is going on out there?" while they're fighting on the side of the building. Then all the sudden the Hulk and The Thing would be fighting each other 3 blocks away, messing up my Cable television. The I would like, HEY! I'm trying to watch 3's company here! They wouldn't hear me since they're crashing buildings and blowing crap up. At that time, I was living right next to Matt Murdock the blind laywer dude and he was like "Shut up!" and I was like "Yeah! Shut up!". Since Murdock was still yelling out the window, I asked him some questions about the warrenty on my old tv. I wanted to know if the company that made my tv ever went bankrupt, would my warrenty still be good? Then he told me to shut up! Then I was like "You shut up!" ect. Then 5 minutes later for some odd reason Daredevil jumped through my window and kicked me in my nads and smashed my tv. I didn't know why at the time. But I just thought that was what he did considering his name was "Dare" and "Devil". I think Spider-man dare him to do it...yeah....sounds like something he would do. I always perfered his black suit but for some reason he always acted like he was big and bad when he wore it. Like he was better than me or something. He could were his "cool" new black suit if he wanted to spfff....the douche.
What was I talking about again? Oh yeah....drugs....do them if the doctors tell you to.
I hope that answered you question. ^_^

Now you're just tempting him to stab you.

The generation was decided in that instance that he decided to pull the plug. I've contended that the Dreamcast was the only threat to the PS2's dominance in that generation, Xbox and GameCube came too late to impact the momentum of the PS2, but the Dreamcast was humming along nicely at the time. It could, perhaps, have done something to turn it around, but it was a foregone conclusion against Xbox and GC
Momentum is very hard to break, and Sony's game-winning achievement last time was their ability to crush the Dreamcast's momentum, and thus secure their own unstoppable run.
The Dark Wayne @ Sep 9th 2009 9:27PM
i wish you were an analyst instead of pachter
RKN @ Sep 9th 2009 9:51PM
I believe the Dreamcast came out too late, in between the console generations between the PS1/N64 and PS2/Gamecube/Xbox. Sega is also a smaller company than its competitors with less resources to sustain itself.
Such a shame, RIP Dreamcast.
beaus27 @ Sep 9th 2009 9:35PM
Am I the only Dreamcast fan left, who still feels betrayed by Pete Moore for his abandonment of the system and now disgusted by his reflections of DC?
.....anyways,.......HAPPY 10th Birthday Dreamcast...
...even though I have reset your calendar every so often.
