Valve is hopeful it can find a way to make user-generated content from the PC version of Left 4 Dead 2 available to Xbox 360 users, the company told OXM UK. "One of the things I'd like to do is to allow these modules that are being released on PC to somehow integrate with Microsoft's system," Yasser Mailaka, a "team player" at the developer said.
He's talking about custom campaigns made with L4D2's PC-only mod tools, which we're certain will be put to use straight away turning the game's zombies into all manner of famous people and copyrighted characters (ie: Shaun of the Dead). At least Valve won't have a proble-- hold on, what's this? "We'll have to filter them, we can't allow any copyrighted materials, so it's going to have to go through a process," Mailaka pointed out, dashing our dreams of escaping from not one, but hordes of shambling Andy Dicks.
Mailaka said that Valve is "hoping perhaps we can shepherd the really popular campaigns onto 360. And you know, if they are a paid system, perhaps that could go back to the authors. I think that would be a great story." You know what, it would -- but so would a mod where you have to avoid being trampled at Walmart on Black Friday. Hey, that sounds like a good L4D campaign: "Black Friday ... Escape or Die Buying."

Hasn't most of the old PC devs tried this, and all were swiftly crushed by MS? I heard Bioware wants to try it with Dragon Age too, yeah good luck with that guys.
MS won't do anything if it means giving away free stuff, but even then all they could do is charge for it...but they haven't, which means they must reaaaally don't want mods on 360.

Microsoft never allowed PC UT3 mods to go to 360 but Sony allows them to go to PS3.

Yeah they've turned down all of the old PC devs. Bethesda, Epic, Valve (with L4D1 and soon to be this), and they're almost 100% guaranteed to turn down Bioware for DA mods. For whatever reason, they're obsessed with NOT having mods on the 360 no matter what.

There are a few ways to get around Microsoft's refusal, and either one seems to fit with the story. It will either work like the Rock Band Network and require XNA Creator's Club and then be filtered through Valve for publishing on the marketplace, or it will just be Valve taking the best PC mods and doing all the work themselves in making them compatible with the 360 version and with Microsoft's system for publishing digital content.
They are talking about potential paid content, not just DIY installing PC mods on your console.

its different here because microsoft hosts every file on xbox live, so they dont want to waste all their bandwidth and storage with stuff that costs $0 and gets them nothing in return. with sony's ut3 mod situation, you had to manually get the files onto your pc from the modder's site and transfer it to your ps3 over network or something.
its a tough situation, if you were iin control of the xbox platform, would you want to allow any random developer to be able to have his content show up on any game directly on the marketplace? example: fart app mod for halo, "now master chief farts whenever he jumps - FREE!"
i dont know, maybe the solution has something to do with allowing a mod link through a protocol in games for windows that syncs content to the 360. I just dont see Microsoft allowing the content to show up on the dashboard and clutter up everything with non - official and potentially buggy software, they wouldnt have the time to check every piece of content to make sure it doesnt crash the game.
so in conclusion, the way it could work is through software on a windows pc that would manage your mod content and sync it to your 360. best of both worlds, we get some fun indy DLC, and the xbox dashboard isnt cluttered / microsoft doesnt have to host it and charge money for putting it on their servers.

Screw you, Valve and your stupid DLC promises.
Frak, I would have PAID for new TF2 maps, stop using the "oh, MS wants us to charge for these updates and we don't wanna have to make you awesome people pay"
SCREWBALLS, I'd have paid! Twice over now!!
No, Valve. No. You play dirty pool in my book. Dirty pool.
Now... hurry up and release L4D2 so I can buy it and complain more when that comes out with no DLC for forever.

Next, you'll be complaining about how no MMO's ever actually make it to the 360 and how that's the developers' fault.
Wake up.

I don't care much for the hats and class changes, but I would happily pay for the maps. If valve unbundled the other junk which I don't really like they could publish the maps now, but I think they're hanging on for the rest of the class updates to be done before rolling the lot up into one big DLC.

honestly play TF2 and L4D on pc not xbxo360.
it doesn't require a supercomputer. all you need is a dual core processor, a decent gfx card, and 2 gigs of memory.
Valve games are not meant to be played on consoles.
Trust me, playing valve games on consoles is stupid, you don't get free dlc and such as often.
I'm not a pc fanboy, most of the time i'm on my xbox playing cod4( i have pc version of that too btw, it has some cool features like bigger matches but i dont have friends who play pc)

I have my computer in my bedroom. That does not make playing games on my computer, at night, very conducive as my wife doesn't take kindly.
I also don't want to put a computer set-up in my living room.
On top of that, I BOUGHT it for a 360 because that's what I have and that's what I want to have. It was purchased with a promise that there would be DLC. It has been almost 2 years and nothing, nothing at ALL.
And Shashwat, wtf? You knock playing Valve games on a console but then say you enjoy playing CoD4 on console? You make no sense.
And NT_ - That's exacly what I'm saying. Really? Are you daft? How does asking a game that was MADE for the system put out the DLC it has been PROMISING equate to not having any MMOs on the console?
How the crap did you get from DLC to that? It's like comparing apples to a Sackboy.

oh shut the hell up. You're yelling at Valve when they want to give people FREE content on the consoles. They realize that if they actually charge they could make a shit ton of money. But no, they want it so that the free content on the PC is also free on the 360. Yet you have to be a little bitch and yell at Valve for trying to give consumers free stuff. Then you turn around and bitch and moan about how much DLC there is around and how much it costs. No STFU. If you can't wait then just play it on the computer. If you can't then quit bitching to Valve and bitch to Microsoft.

Watch Valve bring the L4D2 mods to the 360 in the form of... Left 4 Dead 3!

I don't mind paying for some DLC, but I'm hoping valve has more free (and current) stuff as well.
Though, I'd pay top dollar for some whacked-out Valve mod-map that makes good use of Left4Dead zombies and a Portal gun.

Hell yeah. This is what I'm talking about. Maybe something like Rock Band Network: Left 4 Dead Network.
Though screening this for the absolute best content would probably be best, since L4D is a huge online game, and you'd probably only be able to play any new campaigns only if other people happened to have them...

I'd personally map a lot more if I knew I could sell them. The Xbox360 is a closed platform so it would be easier to profit off of for mappers/mod makers. Even if the maps were sold for $1 and I got only 20% profits, if It sold 10,000 I'd get $2000 minus taxes, which is well worth enough incentive to make some amazing stuff. People spend alot of time and hard work making these maps, and currently get nothing back for them. This would be nice on our end. The only issue would be the flood of TERRIBLE maps that some of the PC community make.
