Anyone recognize the shirt he's wearing besides me?

I'm not too fond of Cobain, his music, or guitar hero for that matter, but the fact they put him in-game wearing that shirt makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.

I think we need to update the phrase to: That bitch is crazy genius.

We all knew about this damn avatar months ago. I'm sure someone tweeted the info to Courtney.

If this isn't a fake account, then Courtney is intentionally causing a huge ruckus in order to create publicity for the game.

What news outlet won't pick up this story about "Crazy Bitch Courtney Love is at it again?" And tons of people who didn't know will be like, "Holy shit, Kurt Cobain is in Guitar Hero 5??!"

She IS making a money grab, but only by attempting to pump sales (and royalties) through feigned conflict.

And in the end, if she doesn't actually file a lawsuit, there will be a no-harm-no-foul point of view from Activision, while both of them take their money to the bank.

And, in the end, she will be able to continue to deny responsibility for disgracefully putting Kurt's avatar in-game in exchange for sell-out type money.

That bitch is crazy genius.

@Akronon: How exactly do you go through such lenghts thinking about a tactic like that without properly crediting Activision themselves as the evil genius behind it?

Now THAT would make more sense than calling Love a genius (though anything would make more sense, really).

Crazy genius is different than plain old genius. It doesn't have to be rationally thought out to be crazy genius.

I can see Courtney Love now:

"I never do things just to do them... I mean, WHAT do I look like giving that company the right to use cobain in a freaking video game?

....

....

Yea, I remember agreeing to have Cobain being made into an avatar."

And then they rewind the tape and play it again like they did in that Rick James skit, lol lol.

Activision would have been idiotic to include him withou securing rights. I think this is the one time that just about everyone is going to agree that Activision is correct. In a pre-trial hearing, Activision's lawyers will show a judge the signed agreement, if it even goes that far. Case dismissed.

Umm......The Beatles Rock Band is a tribute game. Not only to the band, but to fans of the series. It's not putting their music in there just because and it's not putting their likeness' in there just because as is the case with Guitar Hero. It's a fan project for the fans so obviously, if you don't like the music, you're not going to like the game.

Whereas with Guitar Hero, there is no real reason for Cobain, Cash, Santana or the Muse guy to be in that game. 3 of the 4 guys have one of their songs in the game and they look absolutely ridiculous when they're on stage doing other songs or playing other instruments.

Not to mention that The Beatles have done more for music and overall emotion around the world than most of the performers in GH could ever hope to achieve.

Listen, fuckmouth. The Beatles influence over music is seen in every genre music has, except obscure ones like Scandanvian Funk.

I can't stand naysayers. Everyone loves the Beatles. Your grandmother, your preacher, your child lover, and President Lincoln. They all love the Beatles and it's for a damned good reason. If you can't see it then stick to the things you love (i.e. child molestation) and keep your mouth shut.

They were great and wrote timeless songs but something needs to be said about the fact that they also came in at a time when the electric guitar and rock/pop music had not been thoroughly explored. So in turn anything and everything they came up with was revolutionary.

All I hear is how there "Influence" can be seen throughout every genre but no examples. Bands like the Rolling Stones and Cream played electric guitar better than the which is evident it the Rock Band game vs previous Rolling Stones and Cream songs in music rhythm games. Don't cry because they overrated and you just "like" them because that is the cool thing to do on Joystiq.

Well, I guess Beethoven didn't create music videos either, nor did he technically create any new genres, so I guess he really wasn't the big bad music legend that everyone makes him out to be.

I wonder why my google auto-complete for "beatles influence" not only prompts music, but also culture and fashion too? In the couple of short minutes I'm willing to devote to this discussion, I've discovered that they basically set the standard for self-composition. Before them, almost all rock bands relied on professional songwritiers, but apparently they're the ones that made it standard. I don't know what kind of music you like (probably metal, since metalheads are the least likely to like Beatles-type music, not that I have anything wrong with metal), but I imagine you wouldn't like Metallica (as an example) if some guy named Rupert Pinchington wrote all the words and melodies. Self-composition gives bands a legitimacy for their feelings, messages, etc. that cannot be had when a behind-the-scenes "suit" is doing all the work for them.

Other things I was able to quickly find:
-they broke away from the singles mindset and started the trend of aspiring to fill an entire album with quality music instead of filler. Dark Side of the Moon might have never existed without them, especially in its awesome play-it-straight-through style.

-they broke away from the 3 minute maximum length for singles with "Hey Jude." There goes Lynyrd Skynyrd's best songs.

-and, SHOCKER HERE, their movies and "promotional videos" (copies of songs pre-recorded with visuals so that they wouldn't have to actually appear on every TV show) were the anticipation of music videos: A/V collaborations that were intended to promote their songs!!

No one is saying you have to like the Beatles, nor do you have to like Beethoven. This is coming from someone who really didn't like the Beatles at all 10 years ago, and I've only come to like them as my musical tastes have changed (from Linkin Park and Korn to Mason Jennings and Ben Harper), but I've always understood that they did a lot for music.

Strong work there, responding to factual arguments with sarcasm. The mark of a true intellectual. None of my points had anything to do with fashion, I mentioned it merely as a point of interest.

I'M sure that most major artists (who write their own songs) in fact do do so because of the Beatles (since they seem to be credited with the trend). I'm not saying Metallica is writing the songs in the vein of the Beatles, but that James Hetfield is able to write songs at all because the Beatles paved the way. Otherwise, Metallica would just be a metal version of Lindsay Lohan. I don't know if someone else would have gotten there eventually on their own, but using that argument doesn't matter because that's not history. That's like saying that Hitler's not that bad because someone would have eventually come along and blamed the Jews for Germany's problems anyway, so we should cut him some slack (nods to Godwin).

The Beatles were the first band to be given control of their music at the mixing and mastering phase. Through this, they made Sgt. Pepper and the Lonely Hearts Club Band. Which is the first example of looping and other production techniques that are so common today. The Beatles paved the way for all electronic music. So there's your first.
