Activision: Courtney Love agreed to Cobain avatar

This morning, we reported on Courtney Love's tweeted allegations that the ghastly Kurt Cobain avatar was included in Guitar Hero 5 without her consent. Though the company didn't mention whether or not the lawsuit has actually been filed against them, Activision just sent us a statement refuting Love's claims:

"Guitar Hero secured the necessary licensing rights from the Cobain estate in a written agreement signed by Courtney Love to use Kurt Cobain's likeness as a fully playable character in Guitar Hero(r) 5."

Maybe Love did sign off on it, but just doesn't remember. There, we said it. We were all thinking it anyway.

OK, guys, please get your sh!t together on this.

She (AND Dave Grohl, I might add) signed the rights to Kurt's avatar in the game, but neither was made aware that you would be able to use Kurt to sing Bon Jovi songs, and other non-Nirvana materials. From what sources have been able to gather, they were both under the impression that it was meant to be used as a Nirvana-specific avatar.

And again, let me reiterate that Dave Grohl signed off on this, too. It's not all Courtney's doing.

Finally, it should be pointed out that Kurt himself sold the rights to Nirvana's image and music for various commercial ventures before he died. He was as much a whore as anyone else in the business, and this attempt by late-coming fans to make him seem like some anti-money, non-corporate saint is just pure bullsh!t. He sold out long before he gave up.

It doesn't matter what impression they were under. It matters what the contract says. If you're worried about Activision making Cobain look foolish, either get the contract right or don't sign it and do without the cash.

Courtney Love has never once in her life done a good thing. Maybe she'll win the lawsuit, spend it all on heroin, and OD. I would get behind that lawsuit.

They should have licensed the jagstang. Well, actually, I take that back, he only used it a few times onstage. They should've licensed the Jaguar and the Mustang, then. His guitar doesn't really look like either one, especially the headstock. The body is vaguely resembling a Jag or a Mustang, but it still isn't close enough.

I am happy that they actually have him as a left handed guitar player. I am saddened that the guitar is not upside down though.

See kids? See why you should never, ever get married. At least not to a dirty loser like Courtney Love. The negative repercussions can just keep going on, even long after you're dead.
