Well, this is just hysterical. Posting on the Batman: Arkham Asylum PC forums, user "Cheshirec_the_cat" complained that Batman's glide wasn't working in a certain section of the game, leading to his death by poisonous gas. Before long, Eidos moderator Keir informed him that he had actually stumbled on an intentional glitch in the game that only affects those who pirated their copy. "It's not a bug in the game's code, it's a bug in your moral code," quipped Keir.
Sure, more unscrupulous members of the gaming community will discover a workaround eventually, but let's just savor the moment, shall we?

The best part is that the idiot posted the problem and the game hasn't even been released yet!
It's one thing to be dumb enough to pirate a game, but that right there knocks it out of the park!

He could work at a GameStop and have gotten it earlier. Also, the problem he's reporting is a SecuROM trigger. While they generally make themselves known in improperly cracked copies, it's certainly not unheard of for them to occur on legitimate copies as well.
As for "savoring the moment," give it a couple days for a proper cracked copy to surface and fix this. Meaning, in the end, it will only be those of us who actually go out and buy our games who get screwed by SecuROM.

I've heard the "SecuROM doesn't work!1!" argument a few too many times. Seriously, of all the people I know, I run into more issues with computers than anyone (it's a running joke between my friends and me), and I've never ran into an issue with SecuROM.
The real reason people hate SecuROM is the same reason why people hate the RIAA - it's a way they can justify piracy. Of course, no one will admit this (not even to themselves).

I just don't like unnecessary software bloating down my PC or causing problems when I try to play a game. Luckily i haven't had too much trouble with it in the few SecuROM games I've bought in the past, but others do have issues and I'd prefer that developers would stop using it. I don't understand why more games can't be like Unreal Tournament 3 and DRM free. I don't need the disc in to play, and all I had to do was punch in the serial and it was good to go. Even Steam, which I also buy games from, is better than SecuROM. It does have its flaws (can't sell used games, transfer licenses to another account, so on), but it's better than SecuROM.

No, it's the same reason they don't like root kits. We don't want programs we ask to be installed on our PCs to be installed. It used to be that it didn't even uninstall when the game itself was removed.

Halflife 2 has the absolute best anti-piracy trigger. At one point in the game the AI just stops functioning for enemies. So you can continue the game, sure but there's just no one to fight.
So I downloaded a working version and played that.. But it was still very ingenious and probably made at least a few fellow pirates think twice ;)

The reason all games can't be like Unreal Tournament 3 is that UT3's main draw (online play) requires a persistent internet connection, and its copy protection uses this persistent internet connection to verify CD keys.
Not all games are primarily multiplayer-based (Batman: AA, for example), and people would complain if these offline games required persistent internet connections.
The fact remains that there isn't a clear solution for these types of games. Steam is perhaps the best approach yet, but it is a compromise for both parties (customers can't resell games, and all games are tied to a single account; Steam's basic protection can still be cracked and may not be as effective against copy-protection as alternatives like SecuROM)

Congradufreakinglations. Do you want a cookie?
A lot of people have pirated games or movies for a multitude of different reasons. Lots also have never done it, be it from morals or lack of tech=savvy required to do so. Informing the readers on a comment thread about how you're the Mother Teresa of intellectual property doesn't make you better than the rest of us. It makes you sound like a jerk.
It's like walking into an AA meeting and starting off with "Hi, I'm Tim. I don't drink, and you should all be ashamed of yourselves."

Gotta wonder what your mindset is to pirate a game and then go complain about a bug on the official forums just in case something like this was happening.

I've heard of this before, didn't GTA4 do something similar? Like the game would break and all sorts of weird shit would start going on. I guess if you accept that people are going to pirate anyway, you might as well have a little fun with them.
And I'm pretty sure that the torrent of Sims 3 that was going round that only contained less than half the game's content was intentionally leaked to give pirates an incentive to purchase the real thing.

The game works just fine for me, I'm sure the patches Rockstar released fixed performance by a lot. I'd had no bugs, no crashes, I like it more than the 360 version, I love the mods and being able to aim with a mouse, headshots everytime, 60fps in a lot of places. I just wish Rockstar/MS would bring the DLC to it. : (

It's been out for a couple of weeks. And the fix for the "glitches" has been out almost as long.

It's not exactly uncommon for a game to leak week's or even months prior to it's retail release. Guitar Hero World Tour has been surfing the pirate seas for the better part of the year now and it's not even out for PC yet.

I have never had interest in pirating a game. If the developers worked hard enough to make a great game, they deserve my money. If not, then I buy used if at all.

I think the developers should release the game about two weeks early on the pirating websites, but with massive end game errors in them. This way, most people have been seeding and torrenting the files so that it will be hard to stop it from spreading. It also completely ruins the game for the pirates.
