Mad Catz MvC2 FightStick unveiled, tags in this fall
Sharp-eyed Shoryuken forum dwellers recently spotted a Marvel vs Capcom 2 Tournament Edition FightStick at a GameStop conference, and now Mad Catz has officially announced the peripheral, which will be available for both PS3 and Xbox 360 this fall. The stick features Marvel vs Capcom 2 artwork and, like its SFIV Tournament Edition cousins, is fully loaded with Sanwa arcade parts. The stick will be sold exclusively at GameStop, or online at the Capcom and Mad Catz stores. A price has not been announced, but it's likely the stick will retain the $150 price of the SFIV sticks.
We now open the comments for the inevitable Happ vs Sanwa debate. Commence.

boy do i hate the price of the controllers. that is a real rip-off.
jynxycat @ Sep 10th 2009 8:05PM
Well, for this model, yes. $160 is a lot, for a different artwork on a stock TE stick.
For a $129 TE stick on sites like Buy.com, it's actually a VERY good investment.

yet another fightstick....ugh....there's been like 6 made this year. i think that's a lot for fightsticks.
CheeziePotato @ Sep 10th 2009 7:39PM
It sure looks good, but it's made by Mad Catz. FAIL
Alton Brown [ XBL: LordToastington, Soon-To-Be-PSN: OrIsItAltonBrown] @ Sep 10th 2009 7:50PM
Actually, the innards are Sanwa, which are, in my opinion, the best fightstick parts one could procure. I've made several sticks with Sanwa parts, and they've all turned out great.
jynxycat @ Sep 10th 2009 8:05PM
It contains Japanese parts, it's THE best arcade stick you can buy, period ._.
undrssthemachine @ Sep 10th 2009 8:27PM
I bought an SE stick and put import Sanwa parts in it, and i like it a lot more than the TE stick that my roommate got.
I'm not sure if it was the placement or size that did it, or if it had to do with the parts themselves.
anyone else have this experience?
Pip @ Sep 11th 2009 10:10AM
I own both and can't say that I notice any difference really. The TE is a bit bigger, so maybe the bulk is getting in your way more or something.
gltovar @ Sep 10th 2009 7:41PM
they should just sell the sticks plain, and sell face plates for it. You'd could even make your own faceplate. save a heck of a lot in distribution costs.
sony boy (6 years til sony man child!) @ Sep 10th 2009 7:43PM
wow. that's genius. i heart you.
Mune @ Sep 10th 2009 7:54PM
Love this idea!
I'm on the fence about what to do when I finally get around to purchasing a new stick. It's either going to be one I put together by purchasing arcade parts and a box to house them, or this. I've heard good, and bad things about MadCatz TE sticks, so I'm weary of paying full price for something I could have made myself. But with a marketing plan like what you suggested, I'd be all for it.
Mr Clickerson @ Sep 10th 2009 7:50PM
Do people actually buy these things?
Mune @ Sep 10th 2009 7:55PM
Yes. From what I've heard, they can't even keep up with demand.
jynxycat @ Sep 10th 2009 8:06PM
They are the best arcade stick you can purchase at the moment.
Basically, if you ripped out the controls from a Japanese SF4 arcade cab, this is what it would look like.
Bradwart @ Sep 10th 2009 7:56PM
These will end up in the landfill next to the plastic instruments.
xtremeholymuffin @ Sep 10th 2009 9:52PM
Are you that thick?
Bradwart @ Sep 10th 2009 9:53PM
About controllers that can only be used for a few games? Call me a pessimist.
RagingStormX @ Sep 10th 2009 10:04PM
I hear ya buddy.....MadCatz = Rubbish. What good are top of the line parts (joystick and buttons) if the PCB in it is rubbish and more than likely will take the piss for no good apparant reason. HRAP 3 SE\SA FTMFW!!!
Pip @ Sep 11th 2009 10:12AM
The PCB doesn't have any issues for the most part. You might find one or two people who have had theirs crap out. Also, these work awesome for the XBLA games. Shooters freakin rule with em.
goboColossus (LIVE, PSN - gobopop) @ Sep 10th 2009 8:03PM
I probably would have purchased the SFIV TE stick at some point, but it just sweetened the deal that I could walk out with both the stick and the corresponding game at the same time. You can't do that here. If they were smart, they'd bundle a download code for the game with each stick.
Great stick though. The TE is arguably the best on the market, not including custom built. Hori sticks are nice, but you get what you pay for... These things are tanks!
I implore everyone to ignore the Mad Catz branding as well, it doesn't do to dwell on branding all the time. These are the most well made peripherals since the Tekki VT controller, and go above and beyond Mad Catz traditional offerings. As Alton said, its all Sanwa inside anyways.
jynxycat @ Sep 10th 2009 8:07PM
TE sticks are better than custom, for the sole reason that it's much cheaper, and will function the exact same.
Custom artwork can be printed off for like $5 at Kinko's :P
jynxycat @ Sep 10th 2009 8:08PM
There is no real debate with HAPP vs. Sanwa for MvC2.
All the top MvC2 players have a separate stick for MvC2, which is always HAPP.
For other games though, Sanwa is your best bet.
neil_1982 @ Sep 10th 2009 8:36PM
HMM ANY PRE ORDERS YET IN THE UK ???
MUST GET ONE THIS TIME ROUND AS I PASSED ON SF4 STICK. :-(
under13warrior @ Sep 10th 2009 9:55PM
If I wasnt saving all my money for fall and winter games...
CURSE YOU NOT HAVING AN ALLOWANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Liquid man @ Sep 10th 2009 10:06PM
$150?
with that kind of money i could buy a couple of games I've been meaning to buy :/
Not buying this any time soon unless i happen to miraculously get an extra $150 on top of what I'm already saving...........
Roks @ Sep 10th 2009 10:28PM
I haven't tested any of these MadCatz sticks (SFIV, etc) myself, is the weighting good enough? I hated the Dreamcast stick it was light as fuck
Brendan H @ Sep 11th 2009 12:06AM
That joystick's nice, but it's missing Richard Mitchell's face on it.
Faceman @ Sep 11th 2009 2:18AM
controllers work just fine thank u very mitchell
Ravnos @ Sep 11th 2009 9:50AM
I'm pretty disappointed that medium punches and kicks were taken out of MvC2 for the Live re-release. I don't know why I'd get excited for these controllers for a game that's been partly crippled.
norm @ Sep 11th 2009 11:09AM
What in the world are you talking about. Medium punches werent taken out of marvel vs capcom 2. Have you even played it before? Medium punches and kicks are done by pressing the light kick button a second time, just like every other version of MVC2. Are you thinking of the first one, where there was an actual medium punch and kick button?
goboColossus (LIVE, PSN - gobopop) @ Sep 11th 2009 11:15AM
MvC 2 medium attacks were always done with LP+HP or LK+HK, even the coin-op version. Wish they would have just had the standard six-button attack layout Capcom has always used. They could have easily made the assist buttons the MP+HP / MK+HK, but I supposed the existing layout is why it is so popularly referenced as being easy to pick up and play.
If I'm not mistaken, I think you can set the controls be eight-button ([L+M+H]2)+(A*2). I haven't put more than twenty minutes into the XBLA/PSN version though, and never bothered to try.
