PAX 2009: Cosplaying in Seattle

In the aftermath of PAX this year, we almost forgot to post one of our favorite event pastimes: a cosplay gallery. We've been too busy slapping on facemasks and hazmat suits to quell the nerd flu outbreaks. There weren't nearly as many people dressed up as last year, but we're hoping that Tycho and Gabe add a full-on costume contest to the mix next year for PAX East or West.

Did you see that Big Daddy costume we posted about? Well, that guy wasn't at PAX ... but we wish he would have been. Still, there were some impressive efforts up in Seattle this year, and you can take a gander at them in the gallery below. And yes, we've included a photo of War's horse Ruin from Darksiders, because he was a mechanical bull who just happened to be wearing a giant, killer horse skin. Cheater.

Anyhow, knock yourself out in the gallery below. After all, we braved a freakin' virus to get these pictures for you.

ugh, i keep telling myself i have to make it to PAX, but it never seems to work. i live 25 minutes north of Seattle, so I really shouldn't miss out =/

instead i spent labor day weekend spraining my ankle in a mosh pit during the Yeah Yeah Yeahs at Bumbershoot... (not my fault!)

yeah, Seattle is weird. People were even moshing to Matt & Kim the day before.

also, on topic, I'm most impressed by the ODST and TF2 cosplay. The heavy and spy are great

Yep... though I'm looking at that Sniper and hoping that the Jarate that she's carrying isn't actually urine.

The Pyro is the best by far... as usual.

They were all great. except that chunky female scout. scouts are twigs that can double jump.

As a 21 year old male I am brave enough to say:
Jessie from Pokemon. Yum.

That Champions Online booth babe (pink hair) was probably the only one to retain a smile the whole time.

Gotta respect the dedicated cosplayers. I'd dress up too if I was willing to put in the time, money, and effort into those costumes. Well made costumes are amazing when they are pulled off well.

Respect is definitely the right word, particularly for the TF2 team (OMFG Pyro) and the kick-ass John Shepard.

Absolutely amazing costumes, I really like the Mass Effect and Captain Falcon !

Hey, that Captain Falcon costumes is quite good.

Also, whoo, boobies.

Dang, that ODST with the red is pretty high-quality.

Man, I gotta cosplay as someone next year. I wanted to go as Max Payne this year, but then I opened my eyes and realized no one would recognize the costume.

Also, that's the second time that dude in the Donnie Darko bunny costume has scared the shit out of me.

Holy crap, the john shepard character from mass effect looked awesome (#40). The pyro from TF2 wasnt bad either.

I just realized that Shaiya girl looks like a young Anne Heche.

The Mass Effect costume is so full of win. As are the ODST costumes.

I think I'm going to try my hand (and probably give up) at making an Enclave armor from Fallout 3 for Pax East.

Does it count as cosplay when you're being paid by a developer to stand around a booth in costume? =P

Also, did no one get any pictures of 'Splosion Man or the Big Science guys?? We ran around for hours in those costumes! =P

I also like how the Blue Spartan was rocking the under armour. Couldn't he peel the label off at least (mine are all worn away by now)?

I'm surprised that I didn't see any of the guy dressed as Tanooki Mario. He must have gotten stopped 40-50 by people wanting pictures.

I didn't know Morgan Fairchild was into cosplay.
