America is generally more stable and less volatile. It was a lower percentage, but the boost will probably last longer and stay a bit stronger than in either Japan or the UK.

Now lets take off the PS3 spin and add some Xbox spin:

The #1 game on the list was the Xbox 360 exclusive, ODST.

The highest ranking exclusive on the list was ODST, For the Xbox 360.

The top 3 games on the list are all Xbox 360 titles

Out of the top 25 games, Xbox 360 titles account for nearly half.

Of all 2009 release titles, only 2 are for the PS3, and they are both multiplats.

The Xbox 360 has 4 exclusives on the list, all of which are available in 2009

The PS3 has 0 exclusive titles on the list which are available in 2009

The PS3 has 2 games on the list that are actually coming out this year (and even that is debatable based on Polyphony's track record 'lol' no pun intended)

Yeah, I don't even think you need spin for the 360- the stats speak for themselves for 2009. 2010 might be a bit different as Sony has released more info on upcoming games than MS has so far.

This list what regions does it cover ? Is it only the US ? I very much suspect that this only covers the US, do you think it would be the same for Europe ? what about Japan ?

When was this list compiled ? answer between 9th August 2009 - 22 August 20009

How many were asked ? Sample size of 2000 recorded is what they have

to quote them:

"OTX's GamePlan tracking survey involves polling 1,000 U.S. gamers each week. The firm plans to release updated rankings monthly, leading up to the holiday season."

Of the 2000 people surveyed how many had a ps3 ? how many had a xbox360 ? and how many had a wii ?. I would say this is very important information as well (no idea)

Also this was before the ps3 price cut, has the ps3 price cut had any effect ? well according to this article its had 300% increase in sales in the US, 999% in the UK over a 1000% in France, over 7000% in Japan.

You can make of that what you want.

I figure Sony execs are sitting there pretty smug right now and depending on what they have planned for TGS it could be a completely different ball game by this time next year, I know for a fact that the ps3 motion controller will be displayed properly at TGS and that is what I am waiting for.

The only difference it makes to me is that the more users that have the ps3 the more important the ps3 implementations of a multi plat game becomes and if it hits a critical mass of users, developers & publishers will have to be very careful what they do in terms of ports especially if the ps3 ends up having the higher number of consoles out in the market, also exclusives on the ps3 will make more financial sense..

There's always a console that gets ragged on every gen. Saturn, Xbox, PS3, it just happens. Doesn't make it right, though.

You're lucky-I asked the same question a few months back and got downvoted into oblivion. Times have changed, thankfully.

Umm...they deleted mine for posting PS3 games deal that is going on at Best Buy. First I thought it maybe the comment system screwing up, but someone had replied to my comment and they didn't delete that. They finally posted the deal on Monday around 10PM when free shipping option had almost expired. Same deal for X360 was posted on a Sunday that it took effect at with plenty of time to give you free shipping.

Fist of all the boomerang had the exact same layout as the dualshock, it just looked uglier. I'm sure if they made more of an effort to redesign the controller it would have gone over better.

I haven't used the Fragfx personally, but I was considering one and everywhere I read they said it was better than a controller, but the mouse really compared to a $10 optical mouse, not to a proper gaming mouse of equal cost.

The downloading demo is just an example. Overall the experiance is much less smooth than on the xbox 360. Lets look at it in detail.

The playstation store launches and seems like an entirely different application than the main menu (The main menu on the ps3 is awesome by the way) When you're sorting through games it doesn't automatically move down to the next row so you have to move around a lot more to look at everything. Once you find a game and download it, you press download in the background, fair enough.

When your download is done, you have to press install, no it's not hard, but it's an extra, unnecessary step, and it takes up time that should be spent gaming. 5 minutes later you click on the installed game and there's an update, that also has seperate download and install processes.

On the 360 much of it is the same except the marketplace is well integrated into the rest of the NXE. But when the notification pops up that you have your game, you can just press the xbox key and play it. It's much simpler and less time consuming.

As for the more people with live than psn, sure psn is free. I only have 3 friends with ps3s. None of them play any online games for the PSN. I know at least 20 people with xbox live and almost all of them play games online daily and use party chat constantly. If I bought say, MW2 on the PS3 I would have no one to play with but strangers.

Home is worthless to me, and so are themes. I spend my time playing games and watching movies on my 360, not staring at the menus. The ps3 does have features that the 360 has, but it goes both ways. The ps3 does not have netflix, though it does have blu-ray. I'm not argueing about which console is "better" I like them both. For online games though, the 360 has provided me with a better experience, and I prefer the 360 controller.

Its actually better here, keeps long ass posts off the first page, the comment system should have knocked mine to the back as well.

Some day I will actually sit down and design and build a proper comment system for joystiq I swear the thought has crossed my mind several times already.

anyway back to your post.

The boomerang was different take another look at it, however you look at it it was a redesign and it was rejected by the mass public, they tried I would have loved to try out the boomerang as a matter of fact.

fragfx dont worry about the mouse, I go on so many killing streaks its just crazy, build quality is cheap and the price is expensive. The v1 was ok , but the v2 I cant explain it all I can say is I can easily go on 30+ kill streaks on cod my bro has it as well and he is a pc gamer as well and he also prefers the splitfish to the kb.mouse once you play for a while on the pc fingers hurt namely the middle / ring finger its all the mad left / right strafing you might know what im talking about.

Also back to build quality check out "The DUAL SFX FRAG PRO" http://www.splitfish.com/?uid=m1nokzp22q2goww8 2000dpi laser mouse now and its all wireless, I may well end up buying this if I get hold of it from play or a reputable seller.

The store is a store it is a seperate app, thats the way it should be. It should not be built into the ui, I just want to play a game or I just want to watch tv through playtv or I just want to use the web browser or I just want to watch a divx film or I just want to watch a music video on vidzone (btw the xbox360 - is sorely lacking in most of these features) why should I then be told hey you can get this game for 1200 points. Its called advertising its not integration, also how many adverts do you get on your general usage of the NXE ? what do you think those adverts are doing for the NXE performance ? I would take an animated sack boy running on a globe as something to look at over an advert any day of the week month or year !

Do you know why you have to click install ? Because they probably compress the game also the whole of the ps3 hdd is an encrypted fat volume and to uncompress the game also to install it in an encrypted volume will swallow cpu clock cycles which would make your game jump and stutter this is why its left there for you to click install and wait a minute before you can launch the game, its not a big deal. There is also another reason security.. You have access to a web browser on the pc you download something that claims to be ps3 compatible from a website and the system automatically installs it and it completely screws your system.. This is also the same principle used on all pcs you download a file then you install it, having to click install is a really stupid point to raise. Why do you think Microsoft dont have a web browser on the 360 ? Thats another thing to add to the list of things the 360 seriously lacks and is well behind on compared to the ps3..

As for the update are you telling me that you never have to update 360 games ?

Its a known fact that the number of people on psn matched the number of users on xbox live (it was a story on joystiq and this was about a year ago), It probably exceeds it now because again PSN is free.

For me its the opposite everyone important to me has a ps3 and I use this thing called a mobile phone to contact them, im sure cross game voice chat is awesome for you, but personally I dont sit there with my console on 24/7 and I leave the house quite a bit and I have found the mobile phone (I think you guys call it a cell phone) a much more useful tool than having a headset attached to me and me being stuck sitting within a proximity of my ps3 just to have conversations.. Im sure it would come in useful if it was an option, but its never been a big issue for me, It would actually annoy me having some one bug me while I am playing a game.

Home is useless to you, but is it useless to everyone ? I think the answer to that would be flat out no.. You see if you go into home you can chat to your friends and launch a game or two (voice chat within your own private space), if you had more friends with a ps3 you could play some pool and then jump into a game for example, its just that you dont know enough people with a ps3 to realise the benefits of home, if you actually hung out there for half hour you would probably find people with similar interests that you end up playing games with and who become new friends.. Name me a similar service on the xbox 360 there is none.

Ive played some awesome games of pool late night on home (its 4 am here right now) when I ain't been able to sleep and gotten to know a few people which is nice. I think they need to re-enable global voice support back though and thats when it will truly be awesome again.

You get very defensive and dismissive about the themes .. I watch tv, watch vidzone watch divx films play video games watch the bbc iplayer even go onto youtube on my ps3 all the time and you know what its absolutely freaking awesome logging out and watching sack boy running on the screen, its a brilliant touch.. Can you tell me of a comparable feature on the 360 ?

You mention netflix, Sony has a vid store in the US where you can rent and buy (which is being released world wide) it probably has the most versatile divx support (I just plug in a usb drive and watch my films on divx). The 360 doesnt even have netflix support here in the uk.

The only thing that the ps3 misses from everything you mentioned is cross game voice chat, thats really all you have and there is a whole lot that the 360 doesnt have that the ps3 does have.. So again from your perspective the ps3 has to play catch up, from my perspective the 360 is way behind in features.

So I typed out a long ass response to you, going over every detail, and then the comment system just lost it.

I'll try to simplify things.

I'm not saying there's anything WRONG with how playstation does things, I just think that the xbox has their marketplace much more streamlined, and I can always be doing something else or playing an arcade game while it's preparing my downloads.

Really it just makes me feel like I'm on a PC. Console gaming is supposed to be more attractive because it's simpler than PC gaming. But installing just makes me feel like I'm on windows XP again.

The fragpad isn't for me, I just want regular usb mouse and keyboard support. Since sony allows it it saddens me that developers don't support such a useful feature.

The psn store, xbox store, amazon unbox, all of them are inferior to netflix in my eyes. With netflix I get tons of streaming videos to my pc and xbox, and those that aren't streaming I get sent in the mail in blu-ray so I can watch them on my ps3 in the best possible quality. At $10, as long as I watch 2 movies a month I'm getting a much better value than any of those other rental services. Bummer you guys don't have it in the UK.

As for the boomerang, my point of a controller redesign was not just the shape. The boomerang had the exact same button layout as previous PS controllers, it just had a ridiculous shape. When I say redesign I mean think about the buttons current games use, and their importance, and place them accordingly. On the dualshock your left thumb rests more comfortably on the d-pad than the stick, and that doesn't make sense to me because for pretty much every game the analog stick is your most important control. This isn't the 8-bit era anymore, d-pads are secondary, and should be treated as such.

It's not being defensive, I just don't care much for themes. Most of the themes on the PS3 cost money, same as on the 360. I don't buy that stuff, just like I don't buy avatar clothes or sackboy outfits. Good for you if you enjoy them, but I don't find them worth the time or money. Just not my thing.

Voice chat isn't a replacement for a phone. Party on cell phones costs minutes and money though, and it's a nice integrated experience on xbox live, how i can be playing a game and invite everyone in my party to join me. It just makes it a lot easier to organize games and talk about what we all want to play.

I realize the PS3 has more features on paper, and it's an amazing machine, but when I want to game online with my friends, it just doesn't compare to the xbox.

I really didn't get the PS3 for the online experience though, I got it for the Uncharted series, God of War, and Blu-Ray. So I'm really happy with it, nitpicks aside.

And btw, I think he looks good anyways. If they ever add a GAP space to Home they should def. have Drake as the model LOL.

The problem with Uncharted is that they're relying on the average consumer basing their game buying purchases on quality, rather than hype, gimmicks, and image. Nate may be one of the most interesting and well-thought out video game characters of this generation, but he doesn't have the visual hook or badassness that a character like Master Chief has. He's basically a mostly regular guy on an adventure. Woohoo? I'm speaking from experience too; I didn't buy Uncharted for a long, long time because it didn't look that interesting. But once you play it, the quality slaps you in the face and you feel like an idiot for not buying it sooner.

Start giving Nate steroids, shoot him into space, make him swear a bit more (it makes the game "mature") and watch Uncharted jump into the top ten.

I don't really think Nate is that much of a "regular guy"

I haven't played through uncharted yet, but I just played the demo. He just seemed really unaffected by the whole situation. Saying things like "Here they come" so casually and just generally nonchalant about the whole situation. He's definately interesting, and a lot more fun of a character than say, Marcus Fenix, but a "normal guy"? I can't really see your everyday archaeologist brushing off the fact that his plane just crashed and he's being shot at.

Definately agree that the game needs more hype though.

And yea, I was one of the people who didn't realize Uncharted was awesome until recently. After seeing the footage of Uncharted 2 I was so confused on how I could have missed the first one.

But how much did PS3 sales fall in the 2-3 weeks before the new console was released?
Cos if they fell by around 60% (as i suspect they might have) then a 300% rise puts them at just over the original PS3 sales.

a couple of minutes installation after the file downloads in the background while you watch a film and/or play a game is a big deal ? I suggest you time your next demo install does it really take 5 minutes to install ?

http://www.themediamall.com/playon stream netflix directly from your pc to your ps3.. do you pay 2 monthly fees to use netflix or will the pc account work on the 360 (I honestly dont know I dont use it)? either way you can use it for your 360 and ps3 and it costs $30-40 there you have it no gold membership required to use it..

If you could test out the fragfx you would understand. I answered your question, there is no difference between the fragfx and mouse/keyboard support put simply so even though you have native support you can also use this device that does the job perfectly. Simple as that.

http://www.joystiq.com/2006/03/22/sony-confirms-plans-to-chuck-boomerang-controller-and-it-wont/

just read that to understand what I am trying to get at about the boomerang, take a close look at the boomerang

www.videogamesblogger.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/03/ps3-and-boomerang-controller-design-from-2005-big.jpg - how is that the exact same button layout ?

I'll tell you why you think this way its because your used to your 360 controller and then you play on your ps3 controller and you think that they should be the same that the controllers should be the same, its just because your brain is accustomed to placing your thumb in a different location its not a design flaw with the controller..

I cant see how your left thumb naturally levitates to the dpad, if thats the case then your right thumb should be more comfortable on the right buttons as well instead of the stick, is your left thumb shorter than your right thumb by any chance ?

My thumbs sit comfortably on the sticks, but yes I guess if you have really weird hands with different sized thumbs I could understand the need to have 1 thumb being in a different location to another, does that make sense to you at all ?

even the wii classic controller : http://www.overstock.com/Books-Movies-Music-Games/Wii-Classic-Controller/2113408/product.html?cid=133635 has both sticks at the same location..

I dont buy sack boy outfits etc, dynamic themes are completely different to buying clothes for your avatar buying clothes for your avatar is like buying clothes for your character in home and even then buying clothes in home has a purpose because you are controlling your character and interacting with people, the 360 avatar just stands around looking very camp (i still dont buy clothes I was in the home beta and I got loads of free gear for being in the beta), when the free theme for wipeout gets released for your 360 I suggest you download and install it I did that and it was enough for me to go nah screw it I wouldnt mind getting the lbp theme as well I dont mind paying £1.50 for a theme that completely change the look of the UI, you will understand when you get the free dynamic themes in the US as well :) believe me its nothing like buying clothes for a silly avatar..

You can still use a games invite to play games you dont actually need a mic and you dont actually need to talk to people to invite them to join a game, sure if you have to absolutely talk to people then cross game voice chat is all good.

It's one monthly fee, $10. Unlimited streaming to my xbox and my PC, and one blu-ray or dvd out at a time. (It's slightly less if you don't have blu-ray on your account)

I timed the demo for rached and clank installing, it took more than 5 minutes. It's not a BIG deal, but coming straight from the xbox where as soon as it's done downloading it's ready to play, it feels roundabout to have it be more complex than that.

As for the gold membership, it's less than $3 a month, and I use it for lots of online gaming so even if I wanted to use playon I'd still be paying for it, so it's not really an extra cost for netflix streaming. I wouldn't buy a gold membership JUST to stream netflix.

It's not just the 360 controller. The dreamcast controller has the analog stick in the same place. The n64 controller was clever enough to make either the d-pad or the stick very comfortable. The gamecube had the stick where your thumb sits. The reason the classic controller has the sticks on the bottom like the PS3, is that the classic controller is intended mostly for people who want to use VC to play their SNES and NES games, and in those cases you want the d-pad to be where it was on those consoles so that it feels like you're playing on an snes pad. On that controller the joystick is a secondary method of control.

I'm not just used to the 360 controller, I've been playing games since the NES, and all the consoles have left your primary control method in the same place, where your thumb naturally rests. Maybe you don't see this as comfortable because you are so used to the playstation controller after sony refused to change it for 15 years?

Your thumb sits in that position for controlling on almost every console going back to the snes. It's just the most natural way for your thumb to rest.

And no the right stick shouldnt be where the buttons are now, because the right stick is used a lot less than the buttons. Most games that aren't shooters use the left stick and the buttons more than the d-pad and the right stick, so it makes sense for the d-pad and right stick to be below where your thumbs lay naturally so that they are accessible but the primary buttons are more comfortable.

I know it's not the SAME thing as buying clothes for your avatar, but they are both asthetic things that don't improve gameplay, so I don't buy them. There are free themes on the 360, too, right now I have a nice Batman theme, but themes in general aren't a big deal to me. I put the bioshock theme on my ps3 but I think I'm going to switch it back to default. It just looks too busy.

And as for the fragfx

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16879284004

Overall 3 star rating. Reading the reviews it seems like people moving from hardcore PC gaming to the fragfx felt ripped off. People switching from a proper gaming mouse to the fragfx. A lot of people said it's laggy and reacts differently to different games. That's why usb mouse and keyboard support is important. I praised sony when they allowed mouse and keyboard on the ps3, which microsoft would never do, but I'm disappointed that the devs haven't taken advantage of it.

$10 a month is definitely reasonable, ive heard stuff about its streaming library is quite old from comments on this site again I havent used it, but thats fine still.

Ratchet and Clank, quest for booty ? thats a full game not just a demo tools for destruction I actually downloaded the demo took about 3 minutes 30 seconds to install and its a 1.6GB demo (I actually recorded it installing on my phone if you want proof ) which makes it a massive demo compared most demos are 600-1 Gig and they take a couple of minutes.. Im also nearly completely out of disk space playtv records as mpeg so a 2 hour video takes about 2GB (I think I have 320G drive right now, might have 250 cant remember what I put in)

The NES didnt have sticks infact your thumbs would be resting like they do now with the ds3, not with 1 above the other proper symmetric design..

the n64 controller had 1 stick and 1 dpad if you played golden eye it was a case of strafing with buttons and use the stick for accuracy, how would you for example call the dogs with it in cod 5 now ? I loved my n64 controller, but its design was limited, what made it so great was also its biggest Achilles heal.

The game cube did have the sticks in different locations the gc controller was awesome except for the fact that the 2nd analog controller was a little yellow nub which made playing fps' on the ps2 much better. I loved my gc controller again, but my mates had a ps2 and playing COD on the ps2 or brothers in arms was a lot better on the ps2. Didnt have a dreamcast cant comment on that but the controller looks massive, btw the xbox 1 controller is a complete rip off of the sega controller and by extension so is the xbox 360 controller.

The wii classic controller is for all games that dont use the wiimote (ie gc games too) not just for the vc you can also plug in your gc controllers and even nintendo have gone for a symmetric design, they could have offset it but they didnt, but then you use the wiimote for the fps' which makes my point stupid, ill admit to that ...

Again back to my original point, Sony have used the same control style for however long its been and it works they tried to change it to the boomerang and people much like yourself jumped up and down and said no, so to not disappoint the users of the old controller they kept the design pretty much the same.. Read that article from joystiq, look at the boomerang pictures notice the differences within it.

I might be able to adapt better than you I guess (ive had the ps3 since launch which is a long time as well), but to me having my thumbs sitting in the same location feels natural .

When it comes to racing the ps3 controller excels
when it comes to platformers it again excels
when it comes to beat em ups it excels
The only genre you can say it doesnt excel at is fps'

and there is this: http://www.zath.co.uk/use-xbox-360-controllers-on-ps3/ for the complete 360 fanatic..

As for the fragfx:

to quote some of the pros from what look like pc gamers:

Pros: Gaming in COD:WaW is almost as good as using a regular corded optical mouse. The attached nun-chuck is a nice add.

Pros: It has increased my kill ratio. I've been doing FPS on PC's so it nice to have that mouse feel.

Pros: As a PC GAMER joining back into the console arena, this was an EXCELLENT purchase.

The cons all basically read that its made out of cheap plastic and it feels cheap and the price is too high..

Hey guess what I wrote, it feels like cheap plastic the construction is cheap and its too expensive.. Thanks I would also give it a 3/5 but it still smacks the sh!t out of the 360 or the ps3 controller , if you played with it and you happen to be a kb/mouse player you would understand where I am coming from..

If you need more proof:

paste the below links into your browser I will exceed my 3 links max within a post otherwise.

Now if you actually believe me dont get the v2 wait for the wireless version to be released, the build quality of the wireless looks much better and I reckon a 2000 dpi laser mouse will make the wireless 1 a much better controller.. Its not like I actually gain anything by telling you this, if you actually looked past your own bias you would understand.

Even further to that, if Sony have half a brain they will use the upcoming motion controller like the wiimote for fps' and that will completely move the bar make this whole thread redundant. Nothing will beat a proper pointing device for aim no stick in the world can compare to a motion controller in your hand, tracking some one for a head shot.

Feel free to disprove anything I have said, if you want I can post up the video on youtube also show you iplayer / vidzone / playtv and the dynamic themes im done writing stupid essays about what is actually pointless bullshit anyway..

I don't know if anyone else has pointed this out but if you combine the purchase intent for GTA episodes retail disc and the DLC (which is essentially the same game) you would have the 3rd highest purchase intent on this list after Halo and Modern Warfare.

Ok, maybe these sales figures are legit, but they are not exactly flying off the shelf. This past week while shopping for a new microwave I had to go to several Wal-mart, Costco, BestBuy and Target stores and they all had two to four boxes with the PS3 slim in their cases. I thought I would find none.
