Usually games they have on rental are available for purchase as well, so you should be fine on that front. There's a whole slew of good games set up for PSN release around October 1st.

This update is all in all disappointing for being 6.00, though. I was expecting something bigger.

Give it a month or two. The summer is a dead zone for every platform out there. Unless you want sports titles?

They already have good games, go freaking BUY them. The rentals will be fore people that want to try more than just a demo.

@PNO4, do you really think i havent bought games for the psp, for christ sake i own Death Jr. Get off your horse or soap box and tell me in the last year they have released quality content, i keep my PS2 around because of the plethora of games that are STILL available. When i see a game like world ends with you and scribblenauts you have to wonder WTF. Give me another God of War or a proper Tactics Sequel, idiots are sitting on my money and dont want it. Blame them for not wanting it.

My god i would buy every tactics game they would release if they just got off their asses, even with all the glitches, just make them.

OH AND FIRST!!!!!

A good game isnt classified by the amount of time you have to play it. Its classified by how fun and great you think the game is to begin with. Even if you played for 10 minutes as long as it was the greatest or close to greatest excitement you had all day. Its a good game.

Bawwwwwww

I've only got four PSP games (Star Ocean First Departure, Yggdra Union, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, and DJMAX Fever), but my main reason for getting a PSP is the hopefully upcoming game Tales of Versus. Still, there's other PSP games I want, such as Star Ocean Second Evolution, Riviera: The Promised Land, possibly Loco Roco and Loco Roco 2, and hell, maybe even the Disgaea games or some PSone Classics. Yeah, so what, I like a lot of RPGs. But stop being a little bitch because one company's game system doesn't have "good" games. Maybe your tastes just suck. Quit complaining, work hard for your money, and just buy multiple gaming platforms like everyone else. Don't be a bitch, cross the street.

If a great tactics game is what you want, Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days came out two days ago. Of course there's also Disgaea 1 and Jeanne d'Arc if you missed those. Avoid Dungeons & Dragons: Tactics though, I love D&D but even I couldn't stomach that game for long.

You're right, damn you for trying to be so convienent Sony!

Do you really own every good game psp has to offer?

Don't you think being able to rent games would help you to sift through the garbage and find a hidden gem?

Try metal gear if you haven't already, or ratchet. Psp's been around for a while and has over 600 games, at least 50 of those should be worthy.

Awesome, i got voted down, for the record, i am also looking forward to LBP-PSP, and AC Bloodlines, i have tried and liked Disgaea, and yes i work hard for my money and buy a lot of PSP games. Sorry to dissapoint you people, but in reality, a rental service is not what PSP needs right now, who are they competing against, Blockbuster and Gamefly, no offense but Gamefly does a great job with rentals.

I have had the PSP since it came out (I have a PSP-1000), i own a PS2, XBOX and a 360 (i use the xbox 1 mostly for the media center and other abilities it now offers) and a decent gaming PC.

@solace - to answer you, game rentals means that Sony is wasting money where they should not be, they need to get their online game catalog correct and then do the demos properly

@LegendaryRedass gotta say i never really like ratchet series, they are not bad, just never liked them and i fell off metal gear and i am a fan of keeping up with stories so i have not had time to go back and play the ones i am missing to catch up (maybe i shoud jus read the wiki at this point)

And to all thanks for the suggestions and the hate, i will proceed to the other side of the street, not sure where that will take me...engadget, massively because if you are referring to kotaku i am now truly offended.

@Emirabal

WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?

Sony's Firmware team doesnt make fucking games you dumb fuck. Wasting money on something as simple as game rentals through PSN? How does that even make any sense? Also where the fuck have you been, have you not seen the PSP holiday lineup of new games? Lastly on Oct 1st youre going to see a massive update where almost EVERY PSP game will be on the PS Store with new games added every week.

Dude just stfu like I said. How hard is it to understand what this is. You pay money to download a game and once it expires bam its gone. I dont know how this is a waste of money because it probably doesnt even cost that much and it boost sales for sony and developers. Youre an idiot

Oh and another thing what is easier and faster Blockbuster, GameFly, or this? Another thing what if they dont have the game you want well then you're screwed. Sony isnt trying to compete with them because last time I checked this is a download service rental of only PSP games.

Some of us are just too poor to afford a subscription service like GameFly.

OMG, wow, so i just feel really strongly on this, you are telling me that sony dumping money into firmware development in no way affects (is affect or effects, hmmm) game development, look at microsoft and how they support the XBLA with developers and provide some sort of assistance, i dont see or hear about that happening with PSN, and yes i am aware of the release schedule, i follo wit really well and like i said, LBP and AC are definite GETS but ok, what then. Stop attacking me and look at it from a different view for once. Granted there are games coming out but this is where they should have been 3 years ago, i should be looking at a back catalog at this point the way i do with current gen.

Dont be naive and think Sonys choices dont affect (there it is again, not sure if its the effect) game development. I buy the games all the time so dont tell me developers are not making games bc of pirating.

I also dont ever buy games at launch, and im not rich, but i am patient, clearly if i still have not bought a DS, and yes, i love the idea of PSN and games being purchased through there for my PSP, its gonna make me get the PS3 (once GOW3 comes out). so @Solace i dont think they should be worrying about renting the library out, how about getting us games, or trophies or a second analog so i can replace that one also when it breaks.

@S. Tiger, i use gamefly because i dont want to buy games all the time since they are overpriced, i have a rule of trying to limit my new release purchase and getting everything else under 20 dollars maybe even 30 if its a good game i want.

Really, I have.

Nothing brings me more joy than paying stupidly high prices for one-time, short duration rentals.

Monthly rental plans are for SUCKERS

sorry but with my 23 bucks a month from gamefly I can get 2 games at a time.
for your 60 you get one
and I can return them and get any other two I want and its covered under the 23 bucks
you have to shell out 60 more for another
so your 120 to play 2 games doesn't sound as great as my 23 for 4 games

I was just hoping they'd put some new games on it. ODST or MW2 would be great games to have on your harddrive, so you can jump into a game with someone anytime without scrambling to find the disc.

Its stuck at a percentage and then it goes down again?

Like update progress gets stuck at 85% and then goes down to 65% and goes back up to 85% only to get stuck again?

Just let it do its thing. It will update successfully. Dont uplug it or turn it off, just leave it alone till its done.

Then your psp is bricked and you wont be able to start it over again. You need to do what the message says and contact sony and get it repaired

http://playstation.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/playstation.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php?&p_sid=j3uAeJxj

Either that or head to the forbidden side of the psp scene and revive it.

This would mean a lot more to Japan. Renting games there is dicey and incredibly expensive (yet renting music CDs is fine?), and remember new titles can cost upwards of $100 to buy.

I wouldn't call this an olive branch for consumers yet, but it sounds like Sony is preparing to reshape the rental market there.

I don't dig the idea of digital distribution for my games...BUT...it's a great format for rentals! As long as they keep them affordable and a minimum of 1 week, i'd be in. Nothing worse than going to rent a game, and all the good titles being gone.

One thing in Firmware 6.0 that neither you, nor Sony, have mentioned is that now when you download from the Playstation Store it gives you a 'time left remaining' heads-up below the download bar. Small touch, but very welcome.

Actually, that was added a couple firmwares ago on PS3, so i guess they figured to also give it to the PSP since they are moving towards more and more digital content.
