I can see it now.........You walk into your room and your PS3 turns on by itself and says to you, "Hello, (enter name). Would you like to play me today?"

@ Wiizer

Why should Natal eat it's heart out? It has gesture, facial, and voice recognition. So far the only real difference between Sony's and MS motion initiatives is Sony's physical controller. I can argue why both would be better for different types of games. (For example a soccer game were the feet are tracked by Natal but not by the SMC. Unless you plan on taping those suckers to your feet... A sword fighting game might be better with the SMC, etc.)

Odog, I wish people like you would know something.

This is playstation eye. NOT the motion controller. It's the eye, you know... the thing without a physical controller? I'm not trying to be a douche or a fanboy here, but from what we have seen so far, PSeye can do what natal does.

The thing is, people like you come in and start saying that the PSEye needs a motion controller. Guess what? We have been playing wiithout our controllers since the PS2 so that has no relevence.

You bring up the controllers, but you have no clue whats going on and that the controllers are a different subject...

@ Araskaz - Actually, Oddog4ever is right. The PSEye is a great device but it really isn't on the same level as what MS is trying to make Natal to be.

The biggest difference is that Natal has it's own processor and software built in.

Yes, the PSEye is shown tracking heads but Natal tracks full body movement using a built in depth sensor ( I think up to like 30 joint points in the body or maybe even more than that number).

Yes, the PSEye has some facial recognition using software that runs on the PS3 but Natal has its proprietary software onboard and a builtin RGB sensor as well... all built in which is important when you talk about making it easier for developers to incorporate while not taking away system resources.

Yes, the PSEye can do some tracking but it lacks the infrared camera that allows Natal to track even in low light sources areas and onboard software that even interpets the player's evironment.

It's cool to see new software developed for the PS3 that will allow the Eye to do tracking but the advantage of having a camera built from the ground up with all this software/hardware for tracking built in and not needing a layer of additional processing power / resources devoted will probably be the difference in some companies taking the time to work with said device.

Yep it tracks points on your skeleton apparantley, but it cant do shit for you if you want to sit down and play, nothing like standing up and racing in burnout paradise, after all we all drive cars standing right ? oh and if you happen to be black you might not be able to play..

Also if you happen to want to actually play with Milo, you have to sign an agreement which will allow an MS employee to sit in the corner of your room with a pc and you have to agree to not to ask him any questions about what he is up to..

@scooby: Burnout was a tech demo, the game was already finished - they threw it up within days to show what Natal can do. That was by no means a finished product.

I'm a black guy ( if you cant guess ) and tbh the PS Eye is more likely to lose me in a dark background than Natal is, because it doesn't have the depth Sensor.

I read yesterday that GT 5 is confirmed to have this feature, but only for in-car view obviously. You can use it to check your mirrors or gears if you're using manual.

I don't sit close enough to my screen to have to turn my head. I just move my eyes. perhaps they can make contacts that glow and track my eyes.

Wait, what? It will use head tracking to move the camera?

How would such a thing work? If you plan on looking over your shoulder to check your side mirror or down to check your shifter...you're looking away from the TV.

Head Tracking really only works with regards to back-and-forth and side-to-side motion, anything else and you can't see what you're doing.

@Space and Bunnyslaper

When you look out a window, do you guys just completely turn your head left and stare at the wall next to it instead? No, you don't. Don't sound so goddamn retarded. If you want to see more to the left, you lean into the right and look in left, like you would a window. THAT is how headtracking works. SO many people think "OMG IF I TURN MY HEAD LEFT ILL BE SEEING A WALL NOT MY TV!!". But that's not it at all. Think window.

What if you are a man that looks a lot like a woman and vice versa? Will the program accidentally use the wrong face?

That would be fun to use against someone in a joke - have your chubby friend come over and tell him to scan himself in real quick and it'll show what he looks like, but a hippo is displayed instead.

One thing I can see this being useful for is having the face of your avatar in a game mimic your own. Think of it this way, instead of choosing from a few things you can say in an rpg have voice recognition instead. Your avatars mouth would react to what you say realistically. I find this to be a much cooler concept and use of the data than super imposing a cows head onto your own. But just goes to show with any new api like this their are a million different things which can be done with it which are not advertised to the public.
