Square Enix near to announcing another Nier game
It might not be the game we were most excited by at E3 2009, but upcoming action game Nier is apparently already getting the franchise treatment. According to a two-page ad spotted by 1UP in the most recent Famitsu, "Nier Replicant" is set to be detailed in next week's issue of the Japanese magazine. The spread features a scantily clad white-haired lady with a single line of text that reads, "Beyond revenge lies crazed desperation." Given the absolute dearth of information we have on the Nier franchise, we're sorry to say we can offer little more than our furrowed brow to assuage your confusion over Replicant's tagline. We do know that the name could very well change before it's formally announced on Western shores, as Nier was recently announced in the same edition of Famitsu as "Nier Gestalt" -- known as to us as just Nier. It appears as though at least some of our questions will be answered in next week's issue.

I know absolutely nothing about this game, but "Beyond Revenge Lies Crazed Desperation" sounds like a winner.
(Kinda reminds me faintly of Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni. In that, I am alone, I'm certain.)

It's Square Enix.
They could have thrown "Beyond Revenge Lies Crazed Desperation" in front of a Final Fantasy game and it would have given the same impression.
So there's this movie called Dumb & Dumber, not sure if anyone has seen it but it's an "Epic Tale of Brotherhood With A Unique Experience of Exploration That Has No Limits".

You're hardly alone in that knowledge, though I didn't quite think of Higurashi.
Might have clicked more if it had been "Beyond Revenge Lies True Madness".
Higurashi's not about desperation so much as it is the madness that plagues the people from Hinamizawa.
Moving on, am I the only one here who looked at this and thought, 'This just reminds me they never got around to releasing Code Age Commanders in the states'? There's a game we never got that looked flippin' awesome and seemed like a unique product out of SE.

Has anyone, ever, anywhere, ever actually asked for Nier in the first place?

just about everyone who screams at Square-Enix to STOP WHORING OUT THEIR FF SERIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
/fantard
Still, I haven't enjoyed an RPG by S-E that wasn't FF or DQ. The rest all seem to be lacking something so we'll see if this game shows they can do more than just two IPs well. I'm not holding my breath...

two Niers and a FFXIV announcement (complete with a release window) all since last we've heard anything concrete about Versus XIII, which was announced way back along with FFXIII? my point being: WTF Squenix!?

That was a stretch for an unimaginative, god-awful pun.
