Well, some of that stuff presumably sells on ebay for hundreds. But if you had something like that, wouldn't it be better to just sell it yourself instead of get like ten bucks for it?

I don't mean to something unrelated (and i'll get downvoted for sure), but how do you get that avatar up? I tried editing the picture, but all it said was "It may take 5 minutes to update". Of course, I've been waiting 5 months for that...

I agree, only people who are not aware of the value if what they have would trade it in to Toys r Us.

there are probably tons of parents who see old games in their house and not knowing the true value of them, decide to get rid of them. most people just want the quick buck and probably won't do the legwork to get more, especially if they don't even know about e-bay

It sort of happened by accident. I've read about it having to be 64x64 and a certain format working best, but honestly I can't remember what combination of things worked for mine in the end.

The only way I've ever had it work is by uploading it in Firefox. It doesn't work in IE, Safari or Opera, but it worked right away in FF.

On the other hand, I imagine if you unearthed all those buried ET carts, you could make a killing selling those to Toys 'R' Us.

Also a part of the avatar discussion, mine has been switching between my current and my previous one for about half a year...and I uploaded the current via Firefox. Perhaps it's something only Joystiq can fix?

The most Toys R Us gives you on a trade is $9! Whatever! I'm going to Play N Trade. They take the old stuff too and their trade in prices are better than anyone else's.

Not bad maybe someone with no knowledge of what they have will trade in old games they have in there attic and then us true gamers will score on a sweet deal. I would mind getting another Atari 2600.

They don't (see?) necessarily indicate possession.

For instance, some style manuals tell you to use " 's " to make plurals of acronyms. The apostrophe wasn't necessary in this example, though.

Lesson done. ;P

Will Toys 'R' Us being reselling these traded-in games?

I'm trying to get my hands on some old cartridges for dirt cheap.

Smart, Toys R Us. You deserve a cookie for that one.

It says that they won't be selling them in the store. Meaning you'll have to trade in for only new product. I don't see too many people going for this unless they are wanting a new controller or something.

Now I have to wish for a winning lottery ticket while my luck is high.

I guarantee it'll be the same amount of cheating. Only this time, you need to blow the bottom of the cartridge, and use a game genie.

There's no way Toys R' Us of all people is going to pay top dollar for your copy of Ice Hockey on the NES.

Gamestop (and all retailers, including the ones here in the UK) are just making a profit - which is what you could do if you sold your games on eBay for pretty much their retail value.

Bought Beatles Rock Band on Wednesday for £39.99 - played it all day. Got a promo of it through on Thursday (thank you, slow British postman) and sold my original on eBay for £37.00. Also just sold FIFA 09 (which has been out for a year) for £15 - which is the price it retails at in most places. Gamestation offered me £6 trade-in value. Saying that, they offered me £2 for an Official Microsoft 360 Force Feedback steering wheel too. To say that I laughed in their faces was an understatement.

Well, hopefully this works into a good system where the classics actually become available instead of them hording the games that are worth bigger money just to auction them off on ebay for 12 times profit or something. I don't know about the rest of you out there, but I cherish my Intellivision and Atari 2600 collection. Regardless of what some people think, you don't need "good graphics" for a good game.

This is potentially very, very awesome. I've got a substantial collection of oldies that I'd like to add to.

One would assume that they would resell them. The question is how. Will they do it in-store, or ship it off to Amazon or something and sell online? Hopefully the pricing won't also be too bad. Otherwise, it's no better than Ebay.

I work a Toys R Us and we have been doing this for about a month and its actually a really good deal. They will defiantly give you more money then Game Stop but you have to have the case and the manual to get the trade in credit

That sucks.

Here, you can buy a second hand game from gamestop, take the case and manual, and return the game as-is (to a different gamestop of course) and they'll accept it and give you your money back within 7 days (or is it 14?)

Great of course if it doesn't conflict with your moral conscious and if you need a new case/manual for a game. On ebay, a complete box and manual with a game would generally increase the value and ease of selling it significantly.

Whom are TRU defying? GameStop? The word is "definitely".

@Windmill

It's "conscience", not "conscious".

The level of discourse on the internet is atrocious.

That'd be awesome if they started selling old games, too - there's some old games I wouldn't mind adding to the collection, but I've always been wary of buying from eBay.

Hmm... I'm not sure if I want them to trade in classics, it will get a bunch of 12 year olds to buy them thinking they are "hardcore" gamers because they are buying Mike Tyson's punch out, and the game will eventually get destroyed considering kids don't know how to take are of their stuff.
