More Left 4 Dead DLC after 'Crash Course,' says boycotter
When Left 4 Dead 2 boycott co-leader Walking_Target visited Wonka's chocolate factory Valve Software recently, he saw the most fantastical things. Though he can't go into too much detail per a verbal agreement with Valve, the lucky gent drew upon his inner Keighley to deliver a few scant details about "more DLC for Left 4 Dead coming after Crash Course" on his blog.
According to Walking_Target, the upcoming content could be "a new special infected, a new campaign, or new weapon(s)." Considering the fact that the Crash Course DLC lands this month, and Left 4 Dead 2 shambles into stores on November 17, that leaves one empty month in between for this mystery content -- that is, unless Valve plans on releasing it after L4D2. This would of course put us in a compromising position: Buy Left 4 Dead 2 and potentially miss out on the original game's DLC, or download the first game's DLC and maybe permanently delay a purchase of the sequel? We've contacted Valve for more details to help us (and you!) solve this particularly problematic predicament.

Lol is anyone on xbox 360 actually gonna waste points on this dlc when the new game is just 1-2 months away lol
Durden @ Sep 11th 2009 5:05PM
I'm sure a lot of people will. They spend money on clothes for their avatar so why not?
I'm getting LFD2 but not the DLC for 1. Waste of money in my opinion.
Phil @ Sep 11th 2009 5:09PM
...What's wrong with wanting to play the original and the sequel?
You two just sound like a bunch of arrogant douchebags. 'LULZ, ppl spending money on something we think is stupid must be stupid.'
Well okay, just alexdaman44, not so much the second guy. But really dude, comparing DLC to the avatar store? It's like comparing cake and pie, one's actually superior and the other is just eye candy.
...Cake is superior in case you are wondering. Fuck pie.
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Sep 11th 2009 5:18PM
Wait... Since when is pie "eye candy"?
If you've got pie sitting around I'll gladly eat it.
aristokrat @ Sep 11th 2009 5:36PM
Woah woah woah. I will not stand idly by while you slander pie. If anything, cake is the eye candy, since the inside of cake of cake is just cake, whereas the inside of a pie could be anything...it could even be cake!
Phil @ Sep 11th 2009 5:53PM
Hence the problem with pie, it could have ANYTHING in it.
With Cake, it's hard to hide a cruel surprise. Because if it's something that should NOT be in a cake, you'll be able to tell. With pie, you could either have sweet victory or crushing defeat beneath that flaky crust.
Pie is eye candy because it's a mystery. You should trust the delicious and moist goodness that is the cake.
Durden @ Sep 11th 2009 6:01PM
I just think if someone is still playing LFD1 on 360 they must be a dedicated fan of the game and are interested in purchasing (or boycotting) LFD2. So why spend more money on a game you are likely to put down for a long while in 2 months? I'm not slamming folks if they decide to buy it, I just don't don't see the value in it. Maybe I'm just cheap...
doughnuts > cake > pie
Phil @ Sep 11th 2009 6:21PM
I suppose you have a point there, I can see the average gamer not even touching L4D1 after 2 launches...
But some people (Like... me and maybe 4 other people) actually still like the characters and design of L4D1. I think I'll end up going back to it strictly for nostalgic reasons. And because I like Bill, he's my favorite of the survivors.
I think it's gonna be hard for someone to fill the gap bill will leave as the cynical, witty old guy. Francis and Louis can easily be replaced and to some degree, so can Zoey...
But not Bill. Bill's about as unique as they get. You can't do bill in a game like this again.
Phil @ Sep 11th 2009 6:22PM
And no, you're not cheap. Those of us who buy the avatar clothes... Probably have a little too much free spending...
I know there's plenty of crap I got from the avatar store I don't wear, but I still like it. ^^;;
Just waiting for fall to kick in so I have an excuse to don my windbreakers and whatnot.
aristokrat @ Sep 11th 2009 6:36PM
Bah, what with all the pie-bashing today? I submit that pies are not only the superior form of baked good, but also are much more capable weapons of humiliation. Thrown doughnuts are too small and dry, cake is only superficially messy. I want to be able to have my pie and throw it too!
If my previous mystery box logic didn't sway you, perhaps this will appeal to your food-based self defense inclincations.
yolarrydabomb @ Sep 11th 2009 7:09PM
Cant we all just get along and HAVE SOME FUCKING CAKE????
yolarrydabomb @ Sep 11th 2009 7:09PM
oops I mean pie.
MrSpaceCowboy @ Sep 11th 2009 7:24PM
Would eye candy pie be called 'Pie Candy'?
Pies are the best. You can have meat pies, but you can't put icing on a meat cake or have a jam filled meat doughnut (otherwise known as a Meatnut).
Young_Nastyman @ Sep 11th 2009 7:29PM
I propose that cookies are the ultimate baked goods
CobraClutch @ Sep 11th 2009 8:26PM

Xero @ Sep 11th 2009 9:00PM
THE CAKE IS A LIE!
(the pie is not)
((how had nobody went there yet?))
Anthony @ Oct 2nd 2009 8:02PM
Cake pie? CAKE PIE!?!??!!! Where where gimme gimme.
The Dark Wayne @ Sep 11th 2009 5:02PM
I really wish all the L4D maps and characters were available for a free download if you have L4D saved data on your xbox or pc, that seems like the perfect answer. Either way i think i like Bill and Francis better than Coach and Ellis so ill buy the original DLC regardless
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Sep 11th 2009 5:08PM
Something like that seems possible if Valve has complete control over it, but I don't see it happening (ever) for the Xbox360 users. It would take the modification of an entire structure in order to implement it, luckily for Valve they have a habit of altering Steam's internal engine on a regular basis.
Einhanderkiller @ Sep 11th 2009 5:43PM
I remember reading something about Microsoft having a policy that save games can only be used by the game the save came from. So you can't let a Left 4 Dead save interact with Left 4 Dead 2.
Ben @ Sep 11th 2009 5:51PM
You can unlock stuff in Banjo Kazooie N&B by finding the hidden eggs in the original Banjo Kazooie on XBLA, so I'm pretty sure L4D2 could read L4D1's save data.
damnreds @ Sep 11th 2009 5:54PM
i learned my lesson after buying the orange box and left4dead for my new xbox: always buy the computer versions of valve's games
webster1990 @ Sep 11th 2009 5:55PM
Mass Effect 2 is supposed to use data from your Mass Effect 1 save
Iroquois @ Sep 11th 2009 6:15PM
I think you just revealed their big secret.
Phil @ Sep 11th 2009 6:24PM
No, their big secret is that fucking unrevealed game mode...
Damn it valve, you have me excited for something original to the gameplay, just make it fun is all I ask and not unpleasant like the survivor mode. D:
And I only call it unpleasant cause I suck at it. >_>;;
Einhanderkiller @ Sep 11th 2009 7:29PM
Wait... I think I may be remembering incorrectly. It may have been Xbox 1 saves can't interact with Xbox 360 games.
whylekat @ Sep 12th 2009 1:23AM
Xbox1 Saves?? Dude get with the times!
Cj @ Sep 11th 2009 5:08PM
I knew this would become an issue if they supported both games. I hope a few months in after L4D2 releases they just stick with patches and such for L4D1 and not put us buyers in a compromised position like Joystiq just described.
joeybeast @ Sep 11th 2009 5:12PM
Look Valve,
I'm buying L4D2
Don't double dip.
Special Agent Steve @ Sep 11th 2009 10:53PM
Who cares if they support an older game.
Either A: You don't buy it.
Or, B: You buy it and enjoy it (hopefully).
Mr. Manly ESC Mcbeefington Ferguson The Second @ Sep 11th 2009 5:15PM
I'm still shocked; I can’t believe for once Valve released a game in less than one year.
Next thing you know they are going to release the half life 2 chapters on time.
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Sep 11th 2009 5:21PM
They never announced release dates for any of the Half-Life 2 episodic content, so saying "on time" doesn't make any sense.
They are like Blizzard, they set vague expectancy dates such as "TBA" or "Q4 2010" to give themselves the chance to create a great product without the pressures of shipping dates hanging over their heads.
Iroquois @ Sep 11th 2009 6:16PM
Or even release the HL2 Chapters...dare I say it...too quickly??!!?
Discotheque @ Sep 11th 2009 9:23PM
Except...L4D are half-assed games (by Valve standards) whilst Half Life 2 and Episode 2 (lets...forget about episode 1 shall we) were actual games with quality in them. So L4D2 coming out within a year does make sense. It probably took them a few weeks to make. Also lackluster DLC support too.
TF2 has had waaaaay better support. Which is lame, because Left 4 Dead needs it more seeing as it was a more expensive also-mp only game.
-Vexx- @ Sep 11th 2009 5:20PM
.....Yeah....
I am still buying L4D2 because I want it and I am not cheap also think of those people who buy EA's sequels every year.
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Sep 11th 2009 5:22PM
What the hell does that have to do with L4D DLC?
-Vexx- @ Sep 11th 2009 5:23PM
I'm not buying it.
rabbler78 @ Sep 11th 2009 5:27PM
yeah cuz sports games are exactly the same a FPS games.....
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Sep 11th 2009 5:28PM
"I am still buying L4D2 because I want it and I am not cheap"
So >>>PAYING
warrenEBB @ Sep 11th 2009 5:33PM
"Buy Left 4 Dead 2 and potentially miss out on the original game's DLC"
I just don't get it.
Why is this the scenario? How does this make any sense? Like, because you'll be having so much fun with the sequel you'll completely forget about the original's ongoing support? wha?
How hard is it to put the L4D1 disc back in? I swear ta mike, i own all these other games, and i don't have a problem putting their discs back in if i want to check out some new DLC for them.
the whole premise behind people angry that they're going to have too many options is based on pessimistic (and sometimes strange) assumptions.
warrenEBB @ Sep 11th 2009 5:38PM
similarly, how is this news? Valve said there would be ongoing support. The whole issue is that support wasn't delivered as fast as team fortress2, so people decided to freak out.
Isn't the real title for this story "Gamers who randomly decided Valve wouldn't keep promises now have actual facts to work with - decide to reverse their bizarre assumptions"
hessianoth @ Sep 11th 2009 5:33PM
Put me down for not getting any L4D DLC, I can hold off a month for L4D2, even longer since I plan to get it used.
Mogster @ Sep 11th 2009 5:45PM
Woah woah woah, hang on a second, with have to PAY for the original DLC now?
sicsided @ Sep 11th 2009 5:54PM
mmmmm, free DLC on PC.
So nice, it rhymes!
HighFiveJesus @ Sep 11th 2009 6:43PM
I thought the previous released DLC was free for 360 people too???
Or was it never free and suckers paid for it anyway (instead of getting the pc version, guaranteed to be free)
sicsided @ Sep 11th 2009 6:45PM
The Survival mode and map was free, but the Crash Course will cost $7 on 360 while being free on PC.
HighFiveJesus @ Sep 11th 2009 11:08PM
Oh nice, they'll probably charge for the next stuff too. But people can't wait to buy it!
